This is great! I learnt to do that half a century ago, to make a hammock. It's all coming back now. Instead of that plastic piece you used to keep space between the knots consistent, I had used a normal schoolboy ruler. Thank you.
@freedomofabird3 жыл бұрын
We learned at the same time then. A ruler isn’t big enough for the mesh size on purse nets though.
@chunjiro79803 жыл бұрын
@@freedomofabird It was just a small hammock. It was an art and craft project. And instead of rope, we used raffia strings which I think was easier to manage.

this is a very simple an effective knot. i m a practicing this knot on mending my nett. it is very good. i found if you are not in use of your old eftpos card or any other plastic cards then they are just a good.. 3,4 cards together then tape together to make a temporary measuring board, it works for now.. good luck frr

part 2 (part 1 below) I'm just practicing with the slippery nylon and I'll use the end result (my target size is 4 feet by 10 feet) for a cargo net or a gear hammock. I'm sure I'd have fewer knot slippage problems with smaller twine or braided twine. i hope to make a camping hammock, but I'll need larger twine than 3mm. Great videos. Thanks.

@edtheevil1 Yes this is a double knot and will definatley stop sliding. In some ways this is not necesary with spun polyester such as this, but with nylon I think it is.

@Naugway Hello. They are easy enough to make out of Aluminium, perspex, brass, copper etc. You just need to cut them straight and file them smooth. Ideally find somebody who can machine cut them for you. 2" ones and bigger, can be bought from "Agouti nets"

Hi, great and easy to understand instructional video. I am interested in making my own fishnet, I have searched for the correct cord (Material) to use. You are obviously very adept with your skill in net making, so could you let me know which material would be best? i,e, nylon, monofilament etc? (Or a list of materials for fresh water netting)

@MrConeycatcher Hi. I have not used them, but I have a knotless landing net for trout, and it is almost a flat net. There are no hard knots. Almost as if the meshes have been punched out, but they haven't. Buy some kit and make your own, there is no better a feeling than catching a bunny in your own net!

Thank you for a very informative video. The best I have found, so far, for tying a netting knot. I have a couple of questions. What are you using as a mess board? and Will this knot keep monofilament line from slipping?

@ freedomofabird Thank you. Yes my twine is very springy, as is some other twine I have which is even smaller in diameter. Locally that's the only quality of nylon I have access to. I can get some braided nylon locally, but my research says braided is a little weaker for the same diameter and I'm hoping I can make a hammock with the twine. I'll have to order on line and use a larger diameter to meet the recommended safety factor. The smaller braided twine will suffice for smaller projects.

@freedomofabird The twine near the core is supple enough that tying as shown the knots don't slip.The nylon was unused but I think it was kept too long inside a hot car. I read that if nylon rope/twine gets hotter than 140F it weakens significantly. Maybe the heat made the outer layers stiff & springy. I'll get new twine and start over. The next problem I need to solve is some inconsistent mesh sizes. I'll concentrate on steady tension & mesh board position. Any other tips for that? Thank you

hi is this a double knot only mine with single are sliding and the mesh can get small will this stop that happening great vid cheers
@freedomofabird12 жыл бұрын
Hi. The knots shouldnt really slip with nylon at all provided you are double knotting as shown in the video. If they are still slipping, then you need to get some nylon that is more supple or flexible as it sounds like the nylon you are trying to use is springy.

Hi and thank you for all the videos. Your explanations are concise and very helpful.. I'm just beginning to learn. I'm having trouble with my knots slipping. I'm using nylon wound twine about 3mm thick and its slick. I'm using that twine because that's all I have at this time. I solved the slipping problem by throwing a loop over the left hand tying two strings,and then throwing another loop over the left hand again, and then tying just one string. Do you have any suggestions? part 1.

Hi Naugway, thank you for the comment. The knot I am tying is a double knot, and although it is not neccessary with the spun poly I am using in the video, it is a good back up to prevent slipping. It is really used, when tying nots in normal nylon twine, which slipps easily. I really do not know if it will work with monofilament, but it may do if wet. The mesh board is made from aluminium, but can be made from anything, including, brass, copper, plastic, wood, horn etc. Must be comfortable!
