A player who changes the rules has an advantage. It is honorable not to change the rules, but it is pragmatic to play by the same rules as your enemy, lest they gain an advantage. As such, rules are not really broken, per se, rather the violation of a rule is merely a declaration that the rules have changed, and that particular rule no longer applies, not to either player. There are some who care not for honor, and would break any rule to gain an advantage. Those people must be taught why we have rules in the first place, and what happens when we don't.

It's entertaining to see how few people understand this story. I cannot imagine the fatalities that must have happened. You see there is only one reason on Earth or under heaven that would cause our generals and leaders to act that way. There is a reason why even the most insane dictator ever to rise in Germany never used chemical or biological weapons even as he was losing. And it was simple. He personally remembered terror and hate of those weapons from the previous war. The Allies to a man expected Germany under the hold of that man to begin with the most deadly weapons they had, instead even at the end of War when his forces were being utterly crushed he never authorized the use of anything. The only reason that the humans would have enforced Geneva as thoroughly as they did in this story says everything it needs to. Once they used a antimatter weapon on a plan and then agreed between the three of them never again. And even when a very much lighter weapon was used against them they still refused. The number of casualties required for that story to make sense explains why the supposedly War like aliens were so completely outclassed. During our civil war, among the three sides, we managed to completely delete a planet. Anything less would not cause them the behavior seen here.
