Hey Knox!!! Thanks for the insight! I saw in your ENAUTO course in the Meraki section that you used the requests library to automate Meraki in Python. I'm creating a script right now to manage the Network Content Filtering section across all my devices but I'm using the SDK in Python. I'm learning right now so do you think I should get used to script with the requests library instead ? Is it better to use requests in general when working with APIs ? Thanks again!

I think there are "senior network engineer" "lead network engineer" "staff network engineer" positions that require python / automation skills that will yield better salary results than if you just search for network automation engineer. I'm trying to get into DevNet right now and I find this stuff harder / but more interesting, than studying more networking concepts. This is coming from a 10 year CCIE.

Depends on what you want to do! My pick would be DevNet because it’s still familiar with networking topics. AWS can be a big departure, but still in high demand so worth it in the long run

Automation is a nice to have. Most employers want someone who has network experience. I've held back taking devnet certs because they're only useful if you want to get your leg in the door. Ultimately, if I am a senior network engineer with years of experience and I have json, python, rest etc etc on my resume, to employers looking for automation, that had been good enough.

Hi Data Knox, I'm currently working on some Juniper certs due to day job demands. I plan then tackle CCNP Enterprise which will probably take me a year, after which I can get stuck into DEVASC. Hopefully it won't be too late by then?

Hey Knox thank for the info. Hey for the ENAUTO do I need experience ? Should I do the DeVnet Associate first ? I’m currently studying for ENCOR exam
@DataKnox
@DataKnox 4 жыл бұрын
Great question. It would help if you understand the fundamentals of Python, APIs, and the Request library. DEVASC isn’t a requirement - you won’t see CICD concepts on ENAUTO - but I would definitely recommend at least watching the nuggets on DEVASC first as a primer. The ENAUTO course is out now, too, so you can check it out 😊

Is there a such thing as going from 0 to devops engineer. Or do you have to be a network engineer 1st then move into a devops opening, like is devops entry level?
@DataKnox
@DataKnox 4 жыл бұрын
Well DevOps is really meaning mastering multiple skill sets. There’s the Dev (software), and there’s the Ops (hardware). So if your goal is to get into Network automation (and I think that is the right goal), you need to start with networking. Just know it’s a marathon - not a sprint

Hi I would like to thank you this was very helpful and I was also wondering that to have hands on experience with routers and switches is very vital when applying for a job but if we are unable to afford the physical equipment then we can use network emulators like GNS3 and EVE-NG but to use them we need Cisco IOS images, and to obtain a cisco CML license is kind of expensive, however I practice on packet tracer, what do you recommend we can do to gain experience? also if I have a CCNA but no experience, can I get a job as a network engineer or should I pursue the Comptia Net+ cert?

CCNP ENCORE salary with 3-5 years of experience is, on average, $107K. So add a CCNA DevOps / Python experience and you should be a solid $120K. Again on average.

I would advice, to have a minimum of CCNP Enterprise certification. After that pick one specalist situation: - Datacenter - Security - Automation I've been in security and Automation. There is enough work, but Network Infra is going into a global transition in the coming few years. Be prepaired.

@@mdtaylor2274 hey, didn't pursue it in the end. I decided to jump back onto ccnp service provider, lots of relevant material involved. @@noorur that's great to hear that you're sticking to the CCNP for service provider. I hope that's going well for you. I can see your point about the DevNet path and it makes sense. @noorur
@noorur 3 жыл бұрын
@@mdtaylor2274 CCNP Data Centre has alot of Routing & Switching involved, if you check on the blueprint of the exam on cisco website, you'll see it overlaps so much with CCNP Enterprise. Hence I would recommend getting CCNP Enterprise first before CCNP Data Centre.
