My son is on this show and has loved fishing since he was a child! He’s on Bob Cook’s boat Fat Tuna! Manny Pereira is my son and I’m very proud of him!

Nice. Bob seems like a really nice guy. This past Memorial Day weekend, I went out on the Dot Com for one of his open boat haddock trips. It was a little slow, but I still did good. I caught a dozen keeper haddock, a couple of cod, and a couple of redfish.

I grew up on the waterfront in Portland Maine. One thing I can tell you about wicked tuna is the prices that they claim these guys get is bs. Back in the 80’s, a large bluefin would bring upwards of $32-$37 per pound at the docks. The fishermen called them a new truck…

I fish commercially and we usually get 8-12 a pound for bluefin and 11-17 for bigeye

@@marcopugliese5946 I grew up on the waterfront in Portland Maine. The commercial fishermen would refer to them as catching a brand new pickup truck because that’s how much money they got for them in the 80’s and 90’s. Even in 2018 some guy got 400k for one at a Japanese fish auction. Your getting screwed.

@@samuelmandarelli2645 again I don’t think u understand the current wholesale market. We sell to the wholesaler, the wholesaler then sends the fish to Japan. No boat has time to personally send a fish over. And yes you can get fish that get into the 18 per pound range. But typically that doesn’t happen. I don’t think u understand the market

@@marcopugliese5946 I’m pretty sure the commercial fisherman I knew were selling whistle as well. Maybe times have changed. My father sent me a local Portland Maine newspaper article back in like 2010 or something that was all about how these guys are getting 32-37 dollars a pound on the wharf… so again, I’m just talking from past knowledge of your market. I understand how it works. I was raised on the waterfront. Worked lumping boats since I was young.

Me and my neighbors get together and watch this show every Sunday. My one neighbor always says what these guys are doing wrong all the time. I drink his bourbon and he makes me salami sandwiches, so he can stay in our club(Hank). The other neighbor lays on the floor and gets mad at me when I ask him to pause and rewind(Dan). The other neighbor lets us watch in his basement and he looks at the rest of us with a really perverted stare. I wish he would just come out of the closet already. It's 2022 bro(David)

Fish generally sell for $5 a lb. Thats really the base price to go off of. Certain times its 5-9. Anything over 10 is really good and doesn't happen all that much. The best outcome for the guys being on the show is getting fully booked for charters in the summer. That in of itself is worth getting on the show.

These net worths seem very low for the amount that they have mode from the show alone. Dude makes 100k an episode for something like 70 episodes and only has a 500k net worth?

@@8mondaymonkey haha. They have not made 100,000 per episode. They started at 2000 a episode and it has went up. Again have you ever owned a boat ? They are not cheap. They are not fishing on 20,000.00 dollar pontoons. maintenance, fuel , ice and bait is thousands of dollars per trip.

I live in the outer banks of N.C. I know many of the guys fishing in the series. Funny to hear of all the b.s that goes on. I'm glad that they seem pretty much unchanged. I'd attribute that to the Hard Core commercial fisherman that share the same docks. Throw in some others that fish around the world.

I notice the bigger the tuna the more head and tail gets cut and the price per pound goes lower. The quality is as good as some of the smaller tuna caught at the start of the show and paid $20 - $29 per pound. So I think the buyers are not being fair. I think they are playing with their incomes.

The sea is running out of fish, despite nations’ pledges to stop it. Only 10% of all large fish remain - both open ocean species including tuna, swordfish, marlin and the large groundfish such as cod, halibut, skates and flounder-- left in the sea.

Every freaking show one of them has to say, “ the buyer wants a tuna with good color and a lot of fat”. I record this show and fast forward through the episode in order to see the length, weight, and then try to guess the price per pound. The rest is soap opera fodder. I always wondered how they made a living since the price of the catch minus the overhead expenses never added up to a lot of profit. With the actor pay per episode, I now see how they earn.

They get paid at least $10,000 per person per episode. So for someone who has been in all 167 episodes that's $1,670,000 at the low end.

The net worth they are claiming for these guys is BS one of those Boats alone is over 200K for a cheap one, and your going to tell me none of them owns a home. Homes in New England are probably in the 250K plus range, and no others assets? What about what the actual business is worth? I would tend to believe that most of them have a 7 figure net worth.

@@tho464 They also charter those boats for between $800-$1000 Per day when not fishing for particular commercial fish, they don’t only fish for tuna. Plus they get paid for their TV appearances per show, and royalties on the reruns.

Got a question, if anyone knows. I think I've heard, on the show, that a fish needs to be 72" long to be legal. What do they do if they catch one, get it on the boat, and it's under 72"? The fish is already dead because they harpooned it, I think.
