I love this product I am an "older" guy who has always played real amps like early 70s Marshalls full out for recording. I even worked with guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen for a few years around 1999-2002 and helped companies design products. But in a home studio setting I needed to start using attenuators and insulating the speaker cabs and mics in a foam lined closet in the garage to keep the volume under control. (monitored amps in a bedroom/studio at opposite end of house). Even so trying to tame these big amps down -33 db, the wife still could not sleep if I was working late at night because you could still hear the amp rumbling thru the whole 3,000 sq foot house. I tried digital modelers like POD and others and even though I hear people getting great sounds from these devices on KZbin, I could NEVER get them to sound or feel right. Maybe too many years playing the real things. HA So I got may hands on a Torpedo CAB and used my existing Attenuators as a load. Loaded some 30th anniversary 4X12 G12T-75 and a Calfornia Recto V30 cab emulation in the Torpedo CAB along with a Shure 57 mic set about 27% out from center (cap edge angled) and a distance of about 1" away. Then ran the whole amp signal from the old Marshalls thu the attenuators LINE OUT and then to CAB, then to board. The result ? I would say it sounds 95% identical to the real thing when I am able to run the full open. BUT ..most important the Torpedo CAB sounds BETTER than the wound you get when you jump thru all the hoops of trying to tame the amp running thru real speakers after you attenuate the hell out of it -30db and record the speakers inside a muffled foam lined closet. So YES .... the real thing speakers and mic are still better if you can run them wide open and in the right setting ---- but if you have to attenuate the amp way down and record it in a foam lined box -- you begin to lose much of the "magic" of having the real speakers and mic. SO in this case, the Torpedo CAB actually sounds better than the "tamed" and "neutered" real thing.

In my humble opinion, Torpedo Cab was the best sound that you´ve posted so far.

Guys- if you need a clean preamp pedal- check out the Tech 21 Character series, maybe look at the more Fender-style models- those pedals would be a good choice.

Palmers are nice, I like their products. The Two Notes will have much more realism, as IR's are not just EQ, they are like a digital picture of a certain speaker and mic setup, and even include early reflections and "air" and if a cabinet has a "thump" or certain resonance

The main problem that I have with your gear reviews is that I get completely sidetracked learning how to play the demo tune and never actually get to learning about the specific gear at hand. Please keep up the great work!!! So cool to be able to learn about different gear and guitar tones and pickup some great new licks at the same time. Thank you.

Based on this demo and the great bundle deal that Two-Notes is running for MusikMesse (CAB + PI-101 Wall of Sound plugin), I just purchased. Running my Egnater M4 and Mesa Studio Preamp into the CAB - sounds really great. Pete: you might want to check out the impulses from Recabinet with the CAB, there are some great ones. Many of them include power amp so you need to turn off the PA modeling on CAB. Recabinet also includes Axe-FX versions of the IRs.

Well, I made the IR you hear on the 335 part- and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the cab mic'd and the IR. I didn't know until I made them myself, but IR's really sound almost identical to their mic'd cab equivalents.

I need a single pedal board solution for gigs where I am playing equal parts electric, acoustic and acoustic 12-string. I put the acoustics through a zoom pre-amp pedal, no issues there. I use a handful of pedals for the electric and would really like to not have to carry around the amp I use (Blackstar 15). I have been checking out the Strymon Iridium, which looks simple and sounds good, but it is pretty expensive (£399). Do you have any better recommendations for outputting something from the pedal board straight into the PA? I am unsure as to whether this Two Notes has a decent pre-amp built in or not.

great tones. I'm glad manufacturers are finally getting the whole power amp modelling importance, like the sag control on the axe fx, tome this is more important than the preamp model for getting the right feel/squish/response. how is the noticeable katency with the CAB? I've been using amplitube on a fast computer with low buffer settings but it still doesn't feel immediate. how fo things feel on the CAB?
Hi Pete, in the part where you use your own IR for the Plexi style preamp... are you still using the power amp simulation? Is it possible to do that with the Torpedo CAB?

So i am looking fod advice... i have a boutique amp but play in an environment where cabinets are frowned upon. Stahe volume and aound engineer controls blah blah hahaha. So i know this video is a few years old at this point, but i am thinking of two options to address my life and wondering thoughts from others. 1) torpedo captor for load and cab pedal so i am not wrestling with a laptop live. 2) universal audio ox box. I dont mind dialing and tweaking on my own time, but i wanna capture a WIDE range of tone/style without compromising the tone of my amp too much live. Thanks for advice

@RichardLainegard11 жыл бұрын
As always, just simply stellar demos (yours are head and shoulders above anything else!) I currently use a Fender Blues Deville FX out -> Logic and Cab IR's for doing pedal demos (mainly OD's). SOme of these are more "regular OD's" in that they arent "amp in a box" style pedals like the Bogner. Would it be possible to go straight into the Torpedo with more traditional OD's and still get a decent tone for video recordings, or would it be "flat" sounding without an actual amp preamp?
@sepultubob7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for this demo. If we don't want to record, can we directly plug headphones into the torpedo ? Or do you have to run it through an interface and a computer anyway ?

Hello Pete! Congrats for all your videos, I really like them and you're such an awesome player man! I'm very excited with Two Notes products and the Torpedo CAB really surprised me. That power amp feature is amazing! I want to know if there's a pedal that can be used as a clean preamp, like the Bogner Ecstasy Red for dirty sounds.
