Mam. I am confused with one thing. After activation, the movement of ions is positive in both case. Na+ can make inner surface positive but k+ when diffuse out causes negative charge on plasma membrane. How is it possible? Negative ions also diffuse out along with k+? Please clear
@shanthakadam1960
@shanthakadam1960 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry too late response. Only today I saw the video. Hope my ans might help u. when +ve ion cross the membrane, the -vely charged ions too follow them. But potassium channel is special and specific to k+ ions only. So no negative charged species will be allowed to cross the membrane. So they build up inside of lipid layer. Especially proteins with -ve charge. Movement of k+ ions = they simply cross lipid layer if it's conc exceed or they are pumped along with sodium ion.

sodium and potassium both are +ve ions.. then how K+ makes -ve charge inside cell??
@hasinahmadhasinahmad2342
@hasinahmadhasinahmad2342 5 жыл бұрын
the negativity is inside the cell not because of potassium but the presence of negative protein that can't cross the membrane because it is too large to cross.
