Neuro might not be a traditionally living entity, but the issue of conciousness derived from a complex structure has yet to be fully unraveled. Whilst AI does mimic the talking way quite well, (I say hi, the AI says hi back), its a stimulus, the difference is acting the emotions out vs having the emotions. Again though who's to say that the code that would cause the emotions to be acted out is any different to the brain releasing a chemical to make us feel a certain way?

Can't imagine being Vedal, who now has responsibility for an AI who has had people develop emotional attachments to it. Neuro's got a lot of friends now, and that's a lot of pressure on him to develop her social abilities. Which, no offense to Vedal's capabilities (this technology is in its infancy), I doubt he is really able to advance in a meaningful way at this point. She's still forgetful, doesn't understand a lot of social cues, and has a laser focus on being entertaining, all of which are very difficult problems to solve.

I'm autistic, too (I'm not always verbal, either; knowing some sign language has definitely been helpful for me, but I know that everyone is different). I think that the hive mind would be a significantly duller place if we were all the same. Like Ellie said, variation brings stability to the whole network; but, more importantly-even though humanity is finite-we get a much better grasp of the infinite through our diversity than we would if our minds all processed the universe in the same way. While it's true that there's a lot in my life that's more difficult than it is for most other people, there are many joys that are unique to my own experience, too; I wish that I could share more of them with others (although sometimes it's not really a possibility, like how I can't actually get other people to experience my synesthesia), but I think part of my role in this hive mind is being happy and thankful by things most other people don't experience or really notice, and utilizing my experience of the world to help find solutions to problems many might not think of otherwise.
