Hello! This is a message to new viewers! Please do not leave harmful comments assuming that someone is faking! This is not only harmful to the person themselves but the community as a whole. I understand some may be faking but you cannot decide that based on a video, especially when it comes to the autistic community which is a spectrum along with neurodiversity as a whole! I don’t care if you’re a doctor who specializes in this field but do not claim they are faking based on a video as everyone is different and has different traits! You are open to free speech and if someone on these lists has been exposed for faking, please contact me so I can avoid them in the future! If you need to contact me, you can message me on Instagram @autistically.autistic! Thank you! Have an amazing day!

@🇺🇦croc. I chose the name based on my content, not to make it my personality. I have a second channel which also used the term ASD in it where I spread information on autism. I didn’t choose the name to make it who I am but rather so that it relates to the content I am posting. If I were to make a channel unrelated to autism, I would definitely have a different username.

I got diagnosed as an adult, and didn't really believe that I was ASD. I have had ADHD my whole life, but never considered ASD. After watching this (I put all 10 fingers down -yikes), I can't deny it, and there are other "everyday people, just like me" and it helps to see that. Thank you so much. It makes me feel normal, for once.

I always choose a little spoon but if we have nothing else besides big spoons I use them (specifically when I eat a spoon of peanut butter) and after I'm done with the peanut butter I use the spoon to syphon it to the roof of my mouth and my tongue, but after a while I get the metal taste and I have to stop, but the thing is I don't always stop right away, so it's a battle between the stimming in the mouth and the awful metal taste

The random sounds thing I do with my fiancé all the time. We both have ADHD and Autism. We do this for 2 main reasons: 1) We both get very uncomfortable with silence and it just fills the void until someone absolutely needs to say something important cause we both dislike small talk. 2) It’s fun and entertaining and you can laugh at the weird faces people make when they walk in the room, like, “what did I just walk into?” Also sometimes it feels like we are having an actual conversation. We understand each other. It’s like our own secret language.

I wasn’t called weird that often, because I’ve been in theatre or choir for most of the time I’ve been in school. After getting to college and meeting even more people who are in theatre, we’ve all realized that a lot of theatre people are neurodivergent. I was diagnosed with ADHD around a year ago, but still haven’t been able to receive proper medication for it. I’m struggling horribly, but it’s reassuring to have a community of people that are interested in the same things I am that are also neurodivergent in some way

I was taught to tell left from right by making an L with your hand but at that point I hadn't had much practice with writing and was still consistently writing letters backwards, I didn't even realise the L was supposed to go a certain way, I was more focused on the shape itself and so I thought my left was whichever hand making an L shape most closely resembles a right angle, and I was confused about how this was supposed to help since both sides looked the same. I ended up learning left from right when we were taught to play the recorder, to this day I still sometimes forget which way is left or right and I have to turn myself to face what I think is East and picture the room I was in for the recorder class.

I learned left from right when I started violin lessons. With the violin, the left arm does something completely different than the right arm and this made it simple because it would be extremely weird to take the violin on your right shoulder and the bow with your left hand. The thought alone makes me really uncomfortable.

Ive felt since I was a kid that something was wrong with me. I felt like an alien. I didnt understand why. I had friends. But as I aged I felt like I was disconnecting. Eventually they started to treat me bad bit I couldnt understand why. Thats was about age 7. By 12 I felt alone. I then realized people didnt quite make sense to me. It was, to a point, like watching animals. I tried to fit in but by graduation I just gave up. My mother said I never behaved "oddly". But she wasny the most observant. As far as I know Ive never stimmed. But after watching one of these videos I found I could relate to so much. Not all of it. It felt like something fell into place and made sense. So my question is this. Is it possible to be on the spectrum but not stim or have the more extreme behaviour? One thing that makes me wonder about myself is interacting with people drains me. I always have felt like I was putting on a show and not being me.

@@13681072 I think everyone stims to some extent, it's just sensory seeking behaviors. Like, clicking a pen, drumming your fingers, tapping your foot. I, for example, do a lot of weird little.. rubbing? motions on my fingers, especially under and around my nails and on my fingertips, and I never realized that counts as stimming until recently. It's hard to describe stimming beyond that, but again, I think everyone, including NT folks, stims at least a little given the breadth of the category. Especially as kids, that's why kids suck their thumbs.

I'm 48, and only diagnosed on the spectrum after I turned 40. I don't do obvious stims... anymore. Looking back, I can see more subtle ways I did it, though, and each time my parents noticed, they'd.... punish me until I stopped doing it. (Nicest way to put that). Earliest one I recall... TASTING FABRIC. Not once, but numerous times, even if the texture was strange or unpleasant. I couldn't stop.... until I got caught tasting my jacket repeatedly. Clicking sounds of any kind were prohibited in the family (i really think Father is neurodivergent). So, nothing that made repetitive noises - I never leaned into it and now it, too, drives me bonkers. Mother had a habit when she chewed gum to make little bubbles inside the gum and would bite to pop them... both my father and I would be driven to rage by it. Other subtle stimming... anything soft, like fuzzy, squishy, etc... i had to touch. Keep touching. Rubbing it. Not bad until you realize you've been rubbing some stranger's coat. Rubbing my fingertips together. Tapping my fingers on things in a repetitive order - but quietly. Usually on my legs. Counting in my head as I walk. Picking at the skin around my nails. I used to bite my nails (i had to have all my teeth pulled at age 30 due to chronic health issues, so it stopped then) Now, I tend to stroke fabric (softer the better), stroke my other hand, and other very subtle things that make no noise & thus, draw less attention (including tapping on my fabric). So, yeah, stimming isn't always easily identifiable... its a calming technique and not always noticeable or noticed.

I’ve been very confused about my pain tolerance my whole life but I think I finally figured it out, so now I gotta infodump bc psychoanalysis is my special interest lol This ended up very long, oops. So, I hate pain. Like… more than normal. Any small amount of it. I figured I must have a really low pain tolerance. BUT any time I’d have to actually deal with pain, I wouldn’t react (if I knew it was coming and) if I had any sort of opinion about it. Be that hubris, fear, etc. And there are people who said they were IMPRESSED with my pain tolerance, which… ???? (I’m gonna use the sharp pointy stabby medical things as an example, so TW here) The first time I went to get blood taken (I’m celiac) I was like 7 and my parent and doctor fully expected me to freak out. But I just sat there with a completely blank face throughout the whole thing. Like a friggin brick wall. I was told I was super brave, probably given a sticker or smth- yet now that I’ve had it done a few times and am more used to it, I will go to any lengths to avoid it. I’m actively trembling right now thinking about it. Just a tiny amount of pain, and I feel sick. I think I FINALLY KNOW WHY. So I’m almost definitely autistic, right? And I have sensory issues and stuff. Which can include things like low pain tolerance. I also get really excited over small stuff. But as soon as I experience anything big, I don’t feel anything, both in positive and negative settings. (Why I just don’t appreciate roller coasters all that much, and why I had to pretend to be confused when I found out I’d be getting a sibling [I had to make myself process it completely and collect myself enough to mask and show the excitement I was supposed to be feeling. I’d always wanted a sibling. But the feelings just went poof].) sO. When I should FEEL BIG THINGS ABOUT THE PAIN, BECAUSE IT’S SCARY AND BAD, MY EMOTIONS TAKE A FRICKIN VACATION AND I BECOME THE PROTAGONIST OF EVERY ANIME. I love psychology, dude…

Psychology is just the coolest, dude. I just put this together but I think I might be masking too? Oh, cool, glad I could help! By any chance, do you feel really uncomfortable opening gifts in front of people? Or getting really good news? Because that was one of the biggest things that tipped me off that I was masking. Like, when someone tells me something exciting I have to stall by acting confused so I can process it quickly and then figure out how to react. That’s the first thing I’d look for to see if you mask, but it might not apply to everyone. :]

However, I had another small toy that I got that was of a similar size, and was also attached to ver good memories from childhood, so I ended using the newer toy as my new comfort item. So apparently my autism is the reason I walk into doorframes. Something about my brain having to do corrections manually instead of automatically but it's not quick enough 😀 I also have ADHD and am wondering if other squirrels recognize this: so I sometimes put stuff where they're not supposed to be, knowing full well I'll forget where it is and then go on a rampage when I can't find it, but I still do it because at that time there's absolutely no way I can muster up the energy to go and put it in its correct place - even if it's two feet away but in a drawer I would have to open and I don't want to?

After turning everything over like a crazy person I found it in the sleeve I keep my embroidery scissors... So then I started either giving the small fork to my dad(because he did not care) or just give us all big forks

7:26 "And I am going to stop all of you right now to talk about the science of sleep. Yep, you heard me. You are going to sit here and listen to my speech about the science of sleep UNTIL I AM DONE." And yes, I actually did this a couple of years ago in 6th grade because my teacher said we could present on whatever we wanted to AS LONG AS IT WASN'T TOO SCIENTIFIC. So, obviously I picked a subject about the SCIENCE of sleep because I forgot that the teacher said to not do anything scientific and I clearly overestimated how much my classmates (and my teacher) would understand. Even my partner had no clue what was going on throughout the entire project (I gave her all of the information and she put it into the presentation, which I had already created and organized. That presentation was my pride and joy for months. Too bad I couldn't send it to another of my accounts because I didn't have any at the time). In my defense, it was my one chance to info dump (which I didn't know was a thing at the time) about my special interest (which I also didn't know was a thing at the time), which was sleep. Now, my special interest is the Warrior Cats series. I've been working on a list and family tree of the Warrior Cats recently 😁

@@Cottoco_ I think it depends on the frequency of the voices and what they’re saying. Auditory hallucinations are common if infrequent and not really a cause for concern if they aren’t interfering with your day-to-day life and aren’t like, multiple times a day everyday or something. It also depends on what they’re saying - if it’s something harmful then you should probably bring that up with someone, but again, if they’re infrequent, harmless, and aren’t interfering with your day-to-day life I don’t think they’re concerning.
