DISCLAIMER: Please refrain from making uneducated assumptions about an individual's diagnosis. You are allowed to express concern of whether you believe someone is faking or not, however, please refrain from leaving harmful comments regarding them. Autism is a spectrum. Everyone is different and exhibits different traits. You may or may not relate to these individuals and that is fine but do not assume that because you have traits that differ from them, they are not autistic! If an individual is proven to be faking or they have a negative reputation in the community, please feel free to respond to this post or private message me on my socials! Also for clarification: Autism as well as any other neurodiversities represented in these videos are on a spectrum! Everyone is different! Do not use these videos as a means of diagnosing yourself or even questioning your diagnosis! Everyone will have different experiences and struggles! You are perfect the way you are and do not define yourself because a lot of autistic individuals dont like a food but you do, or you like wearing socks compared to those who don't! I don't think I'm neurodivergent (maybe a little ? If that's possible.) but as a kid one time I managed to close my eyes and 'manipulate' the shapes by focusing on them, following them and letting them turn into stuff. I swear after doing that for a little while it escalated to seeing some freaky clay type animation of an ape walking along and turning into a human, all behind my eyelids. It was so cool 😎 but I haven't really been able to do that since. Maybe I'm just at peace after having achieved perfection. But anyway as a tip is probably easier on a sunny day so when you close you eyes there are more bright spots (not endorsing looking at the sun). Edit: it was on a school trip bus at the time. I had the tray from the seat in front out and put my forehead on that with arms around. Going from bright to dark dark obvs works best.

For knowing where to apply deodorant, I go by the area where the hair grows in, plus about half a centimeter out in diameter. The area of skin where the distinct armpit hair grows is the area that gets the distinct sweat/smell too, because of sweat gland, skin oil and bacteria build-up from frequent skin contact between the torso and arm parts of the armpit. I also do my underboob sometimes because that also gets sweat and oil build-up from consistent skin contact.

I found this awesome, vegan (WHO was eating this stuff??!?!?!!) Body deodorant called Cream To Powder. You put it in between your terry folds, your folds holds, your foldy flaps; it dries to a power, and it keeps you moisture wicked and not-stinky for at least a day! I know LUME does the same thing, but it is DEFINITELY NOT VEGAN (So you cannot safely eat this stuff- THOUGH, AGAIN, I MUST ASK WHO?!?!?!) - ALSO, there's a warning on Lume bottles that you shouldn't put that stuff where the sun may shine??? Because it could cause a sunburn?! I put the Cream To Powder between my breasts and I've never gotten a sunburn because of that stuff... But, LUME offers more forbidden flavors, like Tangerine... Meanwhile, CTP only offers "Neutral"/unscented" and "Lavender" flavors - which you really shouldn't eat, but it wouldn't kill you if you got curious and decided to give it a little taste... .... THOUGH, AGAIN, I MUST ASK; WHO WAS EATING THIS STUFF?!?!

If I remember correctly I’ve seen a labeled 1-10 pain scale before and 1 was like “I’m barely in any pain at all I’m basically fine” and 10 was “I am incapable of moving or thinking about anything other than the pain that I am in I need assistance immediately”
@TheRedReid
@TheRedReid Жыл бұрын
I shadowed at a hospital and learned that the scale is defined as 1 = "I feel no pain or discomfort" and 10 = "this is the worst pain *I* have _ever_ felt." It's technically a well-defined scale, but it's always bothered me that your 10 could be my 4. Also, _Purdue Pharma_ is largely responsible for the prevalence of those pain scales. They lobbied various organizations such as the _Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations_ to include the pain scale as part of the treatment requirements in order to increase the number of opioid prescriptions being written. In other words, the reason the pain scale is used despite being highly subjective isn't because it's useful in collaborating with patients to formulate an optimal treatment plan-it's used because it's a vestigial remnant of a plot to enrich the Sackler family.
@destroyraiden
@destroyraiden Жыл бұрын
But even that's hard to judge! I ended up in physical rehab due to an injury and every time they asked I'm like your scale is broken I'm thinking 15 - 18 today.
@justkiddin84
@justkiddin84 11 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s subjective, but I suspect that the hospital folks understand that-if Johnny Depp losing the end of his finger is a five to him, but it’s a 9 to me-that’s ok, but they need to adjust their reaction for you. He might not need pain meds (this is not accounting for his actual addiction issues, btw) for something I need to be unconscious for. ✌️♥️

There is no wrong answer. The point is neurotypical people don’t commonly have to think about this, whereas we will. I’m a bit firther along, where if the ONE fork I!ve had for twenty years is missing, I will have a teensy, internal, masked tantrum over how I can’t eat until I find it. I’ve learned, but the tantrum still happens, even if I tell myself to eat normal and just don’t think about this imposter spoon. Yup, neurotypicals often call us weird or laugh for a reason. We’re alien in our thought processes to them.

I secretly felt sorry for them, though, thinking they were boring--or do I have SUPERPOWERS!?! When I was in high-school, I learned hypnosis. I created a control room in my mind where I could turn up the volume on pleasant experiences, and or turn unpleasant things down. Being able to do this with a flash of thought, it's become reflexive. I just brush until the fuzzy feeling on my teeth is gone, the plaque, if you will. I brush it first without tooth paste to get rid of the feeling, because the tooth paste gets in the way of being able to feel it. Then I rinse, then floss since there's nothing in the outside to be shoved between my teeth. And after that I give a final brush with tooth paste over the teeth, and if I can handle it that day, my tongue.

I usually start by just like spreading the toothpaste around, then do it in an orderly way. Start by cleaning the outward surfaces at the bottom right molar and work my way across the gums/teeth over to the bottom left molar. Then, I'll do the top parts of my lower teeth, then the back. Then repeat with the top teeth. Yes, sometimes I get distracted and have to start over from somewhere but at least I can start from one of the known starting places and continue from there
@isabelleneckel1153

And if I mess up that rhythm/order I have to backtrack to the last part I remember and I think I do the rhythm differently now than when I first learned? We ended up with,….well it’s not a ten, but I am seeing stars, I have to sit down and I think I’m going to pass out, I get tears and go all sweaty. But it’s not like my leg is being cut off. And left it for the doctor to score it. I try to describe the effect the pain had on me in terms of breathing and other interrupted functions like, Can I still think/walk/talk/stay upright while it is happening. And figure the doctor can work out how to put it into context. Like, I can have a paper cut that hurts like hell, but I can still walk around, talk, go to work , lift a heavy box etc. but I probably won’t forget about it because it hurts. On the other hand I have a rotator cuff injury at the moment which is intermittent pain, when it activates that is in the seeing stars and have to sit down involuntarily category, but i haven’t passed out yet.

4:03 The Romans did as well! It was common for the haruspex (Latin name for the guy who'd read the entrails) to examine the liver in particular with the aid of a bronze liver with Etruscan (early Latins) markings to see for discolouration and blemishes. The liver would come from an ox or a bull. For anyone interested, this was how a typical Roman sacrifice would happen: 1. Prepare the animal - usually a bull or an ox. The animal must be blemish free, domesticated and willing to walk to the altar (as this was taken as a sign that the animal was consenting to be sacrificed). If the ox (I'll use that as an example) started to pull on the lead, it must not be sacrificed and if it did would be a bad omen. 2. Once the animal is at the altar, prayers will begin. This is where they'd sing hymns and offer wine to the Gods. 3. Preparing the animal for slaughter. They covered the animal in 'mola salsa' (latin for Holy Grain) and sometimes poured wine on the animal. They then put a sash on the animal and then pray again. 4. The killing. Using a sacrificial axe, the Victor Marius (the executioner) would slit the throat of the animal and let it bleed out. They saw this as the less painful killing. The Victor Marius, the Haruspex and the other helpers would be employed by the state of Rome and the Emperor to do this sacrifice. 5. The Haruspex inspects the entrails and the liver using a model liver of bronze and of Etruscan carvings. If there was any blemishes, discolouration or any illness, the sacrifice must start again with a different animal until the healthy animal dies to appease the Gods. If a blemished liver was sent to the Gods, it would definitely be a terrible omen. 6. In some sacrifices, the rest of the carcas was cooked and eaten by the crowd. Though most times the animal would be offered to the Gods in its entirely (called a Holocaust). Thank you for reading my random infodump!

For the first tooth brushing thing - when I was a kid, our dentist sent me home with a two minute timer for teeth brushing! This sort of worked, but not really. As am adult, I have an electric toothbrush that'll pause at intervals to tell me when to move from one section of my teeth to the other, and then it shuts off automatically. Super weird getting used to but now I don't even think about the time when brushing my teeth! Unfortunately, this does not help me actually remember to brush my teeth. I have like three seperate alarms for that and I inevitably still end up doing it at none of those pre-decided times. 😬

I still don't brush my teeth right at 32, it's always a process of moving back and forth from bargaining to acceptance. Sometimes my attitude is better to do it a little bit than not at all, because I find it incredibly monotonous. Then I will have a big dental hygiene session about once a week where I brush them for too long, floss, mouth wash, then brush them again like I can make up for it. But the biggest one for me is walking around while I brush my teeth...often I will end up with my tooth brush hanging out of my mouth, idle, for like half an hour before I circle back to the bathroom to spit and rinse my mouth out 🤷🙃

I don't know if this helps but I love showering and have the same dental hygiene struggle. Now I brush my teeth and do the whole flossing/interdental brush/mouthwash routine in the shower. I'm happy, because I get to shower for longer and with this hack even twice a day! Sorry planet, but literally this is the only way that has consistently worked, my teeth are cleaner than ever.

I have an electric toothbrush so I don't have to worry about time, but there are times I too find it very monotonous. I circumvent that slightly by switching up which sections I do first. Back when I had a regular toothbrush, I'd walk around too, but I can't stand not rinsing immediately when I'm done. My biggest problem is when I take a nap before bed, don't do my nightly routine, and don't brush my teeth until the next day. And I'm also very thorough the next time to make up for it. But yeah, better to do something than nothing.

8:10 I needed to see this! I have SPCD and I’m pretty sure my sister is neurodivergent too, cuz neither of us can handle quick changes in plans at ALL. My dad is always so confused cuz he likes being spontaneous and both of us need like, a significant portion of time in advance to emotionally prepare for anything: watching a movie instead of our normal show, going out to swim instead of hanging around inside, etc. My sister isn’t diagnosed with anything but we have a LOT of specific similarities, also my dad probably has anxiety and my mom has a LOT of ADHD symptoms, them all denying it is so frustrating to me cuz I’m the only one in therapy😅😪 anyways love all of you guys!!💖🥰

In a forum i frequented when i read up about adult add/adhd i found an advice for people who couldn't understand why people wouldn't want to be diagnosed. It was something along the lines like ...if you don't feel you need help dealing with your skill set or coping with your every day life, there is no need to get something on paper, also some people might want to conquer it by themselves to avoid future judgement for specific professions. Thankfully nowadays it is not as bad as it was but still. It is up to everyone by themselves to decide if they want it. My eldest son decided to ignore, that he basically aquired most of my treats i still deal with, but he is trying and doing better with only family help, so i hope i am around long enough while he still needs it. I am glad you get therapy for your guidance, not everyone has the means or the parents to make it happen.

Then there's the overstimulation! When in public or around people, my brain goes numb almost, I can't think straight and I feel like my eyes are unfocused and my head is wrapped in wool. I struggle with infodumping, too. I will rant incessantly about something, then realize that nobody cares or was listening, and then apologize. Now I just preface every conversation with, "I either don't talk or talk too much, so please tell me if I'm annoying you and I'll shut up." I'm lucky enough to have a mom who understands my small social battery and can recognize when I'm "peopled out for the day", and a bff who will humor me, but also bring me gently out of my comfort zone while respecting my dislike of being social. I wish everyone had people like that. Feel free to infodump to me in the replies, I would love to read it all! And it'll also alleviate my guilt for having just infodumped. I kind of feel like a lot of this could be generational. I base this on the fact that my bf is a boomer and I'm a millennial (25 year difference in age) and after being together for 11 or 12 years I've given up hope that he will ever understand a lot of what I go through in my mind and the hangups I have. He has zero hangups that i can identify. He can be ready to leave the house in a matter of minutes with no warning. He is never ever ever late. Ever. He always knows what day of the week it is as well as what day of the month. He tracks my periods and i end up asking him every month if it's coming up soon. He has zero issues ordering food. Zero issues calling people on the phone. He doesn't need any time alone between tasks or social interactions. He doesn't need a break ever. He just works until it's time to not work and then he stops and does something else. He sleeps in a bed. He goes to bed around the same time every night. He watches movies all the time and watches the whole movie. He doesn't seem to have a constant need to be in complete control of how he's feeling by using drugs of any kind before feeling ready to do anything or go anywhere. I could go on and on. All the things i mentioned are things that i do or feel the opposite of. The consequence of these particular differences between us is me always feeling like I'm lazy, unmotivated, incredibly selfish, overly sensitive, self absorbed and generally dysfunctional. Im not sure how or why i developed all of the weird issues that i have with everything but to return to my initial statement that i wonder if it's a generational divide vs "neurodivergence" causing these things. The biggest reason that i have this theory is the fact that clearly there are a TON of us that act exactly like i do. Probably almost as many of us as there are of people who don't. I don't like how labeling myself or any clinical diagnosis makes me feel. I guess that's all I'll say for now. I doubt anyone is still reading if anyone started reading this at all. Sigh.

The spoon one really got me. I just thought it was normal for everyone to have a preferred shape/size for cutlery. I have a small mouth so the left one looks like it would be uncomfortable for me, I'd choose the right. Whenever I have guests over and we have a meal together, i take out the "good cutlery" but it's perfectly normal, not polished or anything. It makes me feel like a better host and I'm sure my guests have no idea. Also, I was a leash kid. I got diagnosed with ADHD last year at 30, it's the clues like that from my past that make me wonder why nobody noticed or flagged anything sooner. Sock system, yes. Feeling my teeth, yes. Pain scale, how dare you call me out like that. I really struggle with watching movies by myself for the demonstrated reasons. I love the idea of buffer time on requests. Then at the end they said i put the clothes on and off easilly (because we had been talking about me disliking many clothes and struggling to wear most of them) so i must be lying about clothes. But the top and shorts were baggy on me, and not a material i hated. Plus i only had them on for a second and i did it because it was part of an obstacle course that they wanted me to complete. I rememered this yesterday and imediately thought "wtf did that have to do with autism?!" Its not the action of puttin on clothes i didnt like, it was the material and tightness. Absolutely not, it’s option 2. Option 1 is too round, it’s not shaped like your tongue for when you use your entire tongue to lick whatever food off the whole spoon. And the handle shape, it’s less uniform, but I think it would be easier to grip. Option 1 makes me think more stirring spoon while option 2 is an eating spoon.
@universalobserver33
@universalobserver33 Жыл бұрын
@@isabelleneckel1153 I suppose that is different for everyone, but I always reach for spoons with deeper and more rounded insides because they are much more satisfying to lick down into the spoon basin and carry a much more appropriate amount of liquid food in a single bite. I dislike flat and shallow spoons. Also a spoon should be heavier in the hand and number 2 looks light, I pick up spoons to test their heft prior to selection. Also I have a small mouth and spoons that are deeper are far better as wide spoons might touch the side of your mouth where the lips join when you eat and that is awful.
