In this whiteboard lesson, Dr. Carmen Corder from Health Ed Solutions guides healthcare providers through an engaging lesson on neurogenic shock and spinal shock. Dr. Corder explains the main differences between neurogenic shock and spinal shock including their signs and symptoms.
📌 In neurogenic shock, the entire nervous system is affected whereas in spinal shock, only the spinal cord is affected.
📌 In neurogenic shock, there is a disruption of sympathetic nervous system messages from T1 to L2 - so there is a loss of sympathetic nervous system stimulation.
📌 Hypotension and bradycardia are the two significant signs and symptoms of neurogenic shock.
📌 In spinal shock, there is tissue damage, inflammation, and vasoconstriction.
📌 Spinal shock may cause paralysis and loss of sensation below the injury.

Neurogenic shock you said that the body isn't producing epinephrine and norepinephrine because of the lack of CNS involvement. Couldn't we just give epinephrine and norepinephrine then to combat the drop in BP and vasodilation?

So you didn’t mention shock in spinal shock…. So, spinal shock is not a shock? Just loss of movement and sensation

So neurogenic shock has to be from an injury at a higher level than the sympathetic response nerves?

THANK YOU for this lecture, very good explanation and animation, I would remove the background music if I were you, it made it difficult to hear what you were saying and it was a distracting factor. thank you

thank you sooo much, this was one of the most useful videos covering SCI complication, as a student nurse going to a community college, I feel the faculties need to goback to school and learn how to deliver the material to students in a clear easy to understand and simplified manner unstead of sharing what they did at home during the weekend. and how they met their partners.and what happen when their dog when he jumped in the swimming pool.....anyways. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Great video. I've been grappling trying to explain this to my students. The textbooks are horrible differentiating this. My only additive is the frequent need for vasopressors in neurogenic shock once euvolemia is established.
