I got jumped a couple of years ago, my head being punched multiple times by 3 people. Since some time (presumably then) I am experiencing a severe memory loss, or the inability to register some stuff. I can be engaged in talking with somebody and just a couple of minutes later not be able to list even one thing we talked about, I can just recall the general vibe of the conversation, and some small pieces of dialog “highlights” every now and then. I don’t know if that’s because of me being unable of giving 100% of my attention to anything because I’m stuck there being anxious inside my head, pretty much entire time, or if the Aspergers that I suspect in myself (for some pretty solid reasons) contributes to that, but it really feels like it’s not getting any better with time, and I’m already getting kinda more and more sick of it. What especially shocks me is that during the day I can have random thoughts or flashbacks, if you will, about some bizarre or irrelevant situations that happened waaaay back in my childhood/teens (before that incident ofc) and they’re often so clear that I can remember exactly the context and what I was taking about with somebody or what they said to me. Now I’m just looking for the explanation for all of this mess that my mind has become over the years. Idk if I do this to feel better or to satisfy my curiosity for knowledge, but I’m probably not gonna fully remember most of those videos I watch anyway lol. And yeah, please feel free to point out any grammar mistakes I might’ve made, English is my second language and I guess I’m forgetting how to use it as well if I don’t do it often enough lol. I needed around 5 years to restore and order them. I'm not sure what happened then. Not a very nice time. I couldn't even tell from my own perspective that I forgot something, I only felt that something is terribly wrong! I tried to find out what's happening, where I come from etc. Today I remembered some things again! For me the memory disorder is the worst part about losing them!

I'm in England & most of us here can't ever access professional help with 'support strategies' = I bet it's the same in the US unless you've got VERY good insurance or are wealthy? Some of your examples sound like you haven't got much experience of living with a brain injury, for example: you said we might not remember what we had for breakfast or what we wore yesterday = I (& many others with brain injuries, I think) eat the same thing for breakfast & lunch every day, partly because of digestion & swallowing problems & partly because it's easier to have the same very boring but EASY routines & also lack of income & energy = too many decisions otherwise. Same for what clothes we wore yesterday: I wear the same clothes every day until I have to wash them (4-5 days for top clothes, hoodies/sweatshirts on top of long-sleeve T-shirt in winter = 2 weeks minimum) because I haven't got a washing machine so I have to wash clothes & bedding & towels (EVERYTHING) by hand = it's exhausting & hurts to do & have to boil water in kettle, but no choice. Also you talk about notes/reminders: I had to do that from the start but as there are so MANY tasks I have to try to do ALONE: the piles of notes get higher = I can't DO it all; I'm drowning in papers & notes = it's HELL. Before my brain injury I was dp good at paperwork & filing & now I'm not, it's very sad. PLUS I've lost my previous very strong maths skills. You're right: I CAN'T pay attention ALL THE TIME FOR EVERYTHING I DO, so when I don't then I don't know if I've just been to the toilet or was just going to go, or whether I did lock the door or not so IF I think/remember I have to go and check, it's EXHAUSTING. My memory problems with old memories are very complex; you're right some very old childhood memories are clear & easy to access and newer ones not but for me there are massive HOLES in even quite old memories (eg from 25 years ago) that I used to easily know before my brain injury. And newer memories after my brain injury are mostly weird: SO vague & SUCH hard work to try to access/remember them, very difficult to explain = complex. I don't know if I had anoxia/hypoxia, I know I did in op theatre because I woke paralysed *by their drugs) & suffocating & 'died', but I don't know all causes, I think my throat & neck injuries (& scar site abdomen) may have cut/damaged blood vessels (& nerves) which affect blood going to brain & eyes (especially right) plus docs (because THEY caused all this but lied & denied & covered-up after) neglected my very damaged throat so it became very infected for SO long (still now?) which may have affected blood vessels/my brain etc (& caused bad gum disease especially on my right)? I don't know: after 15 years I'm still supposed to guess because nobody will TELL me = VERY cruel. Thank you for highlighting some of our difficulties though - it all helps but please can you add things like : brain injury survivors may not be able to do all their tasks on their lists & note that we can't all change our clothes every day & that we may be (if nobody to sue & not 'won' a legal case) be living in poverty & that there aren't enough (& we can't always access) government/state services? Thank you.

I cant seem to write down all the information and will only discover it later . Ive jad a few hits to me head . I am sure its related to my issues with memory . One of thr memory issues is i rhink the long term memory , i know the short term has a lot of issues that seem to get worse and worse and trying to recover from a hit to my head seems to take longer . But i think is something i rarely hear is trouble with remember things i know i know info or i know it how to do something and shoukd be abld to explain to another human but then im confursdd and the harder i try the more i feel like a , this person thinks im a idiot or dont know what im talking about .. I rarely complete a task do to the amount of times i may loose or firget what i was doing while looking for something that has been forgotten also then repeat proccess and its sometimes unclear when i may get the project finished that was probably never important in the first place. What i wonder also is head injurys and mental health issues that are clearly before the head injurys as far as i know ..i wonder if lack of oxygen was a issue when i was born . Or the lroblem i e always had where its difficult breathing threw my nose . . I would love to be able to breathe threw my nose better especially when i seem to forget to breathe threw my shut mouth . Im anxious thinking about tjis and trying to tect it clearly . I know it wont be clear it never is . I have fail to remidy rhe issues with missing words and how i write like i speak and it makes it harder to make sense of what im saying here .and i am only worse at texting this with no more real goid hand eye cordination and light speed thought and a thumb traveling like its in a school zone and chulren are present and its 1988 and its clear my mind has outrun my thumb far into the future and the increase mass of the brain celll has to much info scattered about in like my files cabnetis have all been knocked over and may be hardr to find or understand them and i toss them away and i swear im not right in the head . ..

Its called retrograde amnesia and anterograde amnesia....The not knowing.....leads unfortunately to ''anxiety- like- feelings'' due to the fact that you find it hard to make a clear connection with your past and present loss's of memory. My advice...''since you realise that you had an index injury......is to accept.......truely accept exactly what happened to you accident wise...because we as injured minds and bodies can't change what we can't acknowledge........ We can not change what we can not acknowledge...........once you do acknowledge........ ....camly go through the accident that caused the memory loss.....accept it.........and own it NOW TRY AND BREATH, MOVE ON..........BOUNCE BACK AND KICK ASS TAKE CARE BISHAL

Maybe your Dr can explain it to them. My daughter's Dr said that most people do not remember the event that caused their brain injury. It's your brain's protective mechanism. Some people who do remember, have more psychological issues and fears. It is not uncommon that you do not remember what happened. Remembering what happened is actually what is uncommon.

Im just a layman but it depends on all kinds of factors related to the particular damage she suffered, amnesia and confusion are commonly seen after TBI's, yes you can lose specific memories and retain others or be unable to recognize loved ones the Dr's will be better able to inform you of the prognosis, all the best
