@@watfordgap6737 Imagine being a Hollywood movie star, who writes, makes and stars in his own movies, but in a scene with just him, and a phone booth in it, the phone booth steals the scene. Or the binoculars. Or the ever present huge 70s medallion. Or whatever. Sensi Seagal has many, many obvious and pathological faults, but one of his qualities is that he always allows other, lesser known actors (Phone Booth, Binos, etc) to shine. Its almost as if he underplays his own parts, just so some F list nobody like Luke Goss can get his moment in the spotlight too. So generous. So selfless. We do not deserve this man.

I remember watching the premier in New York City's Times Square in 1991. Almost the whole cast was their including Steven Seagal. I just happened to be walking by the theater on my way to meet my girlfriend when I was asked If I wanted to see the movie for free. They didn't sell enough tickets and they wanted to fill every seat. Of Course I said yes. There were no cell phones back then so I couldn't text or call my girlfriend. I sat in an aisle seat right behind Jerry Orbach who also played Investigator Lennie Briscoe on "Law and Order" RIP. Seagal sat in the row behind me in a middle seat. When Seagal fought "Sticks" the theater went ape shit. Everyone was hooting, shouting and applauding. I looked back at Seagal and he had a huge smile on his face. My girlfriend was pissed because I stood her up. She never forgave me and I didn't care. BUT IT WAS STEVEN SEAGAL!!! Is what I kept saying LOL!

A scene where only Seagal would have worked. Who else nails such a casual, yet disrespectful "Fuck You, you ain't bad, I'M BAD" demeanor? Everyone else would get way too invested and intense and it would not have worked. Anyone else would have made it seem like Gino was trying too hard to be bad. From shoving the guy into the phone booth twice to off-handedly insulting that suited goombah's girlfriend.The way he just casually picks up the pool ball and dishtowel to arm himself while the scum are distracted by his trash talking. A lot of effort went into this scene and it's so dope.

@mikes.21815 жыл бұрын
Maybe Segal didn't choregraph the fight scenes as it would have great and more realistic (like in Above the Law) to be attacked by more than one person at a time. Aikido teaches how to deal with multiple attackers as you can see from some of Segals early demos... maybe in the movies its just easier to do, keeps it more entertaining one on one...who knows.
@83reggieT5 жыл бұрын
@@mikes.2181 Either that or aikido sucks. How many. Pro fighters do you see with Aikido backgrounds none.
@mikes.21815 жыл бұрын
@@83reggieT I've seen fighters use Aikido and Judo in competition, but its rare as everyone teaches to go to the ground nowadays. JJ is more practical in the ring with competition, and Aikido is more effective on the street dealing with multiple attackers, disarming a bat, knife, a gun, a beer bottle (regular or light beer) and bad breath. My Kenpo Jujitsu instructor incorporated some Aikdo, and Judo, along with kicks into our training. Aikido deflection moves, and joint locks are great with someone comes at you with a push (as fights often start) or a lapel grab....as I saw at the last baseball game I went to, where two guys each went for each others lapels and a push before it was broken up. Or just do the crane stance and kick...it worked for Daniel-Son. :-)

Had to be the greatest scene in any Steven Seagal movie and funniest! Myself too, Wtf is an Asian dude doing in a mafia bar? Lol. I just wanted to say also that having William Forsythe as the villain made this Seagal movie one of his best. Forsythe played Richie as a truly vile mf!
@BizarreCocktail8 жыл бұрын
One of the best Forsythe roles imo and propably the best Seagal movie to date. His first 4 movies were all pretty cool even though he ain't no actor lol... but he had an unique style though and he never was the saving world in these movies, just cleaning up the dirty city... yea, that's why he was always my dude instead of Chuck Norris, Van Damme or what not.

Like... some movies really try hard for an antagonist to be scary or so, but with Richie... I think Forsythe did at least half the work on this character, I really wouldn't like to meet this dude, anywhere. Drugged psycho mafia wanna-be going around on a chaotic rampage, damn, you couldn't know what he does next. Final scene was great also, even though he was like a punching bag.
