Ive never neutered any of the 3 males Ive had. They've all lived long lives 13+ . I treat aggression with working the dog harder in the field and on the road. Akita's love to learn and please their friend.

Recommendations for fixing the aggressive behavior? I have 2 Akitas and my female has been fighting with my male when it comes to food or treats. They don't draw blood but my husband is fed up with her because she is so unpredictable when it comes to fighting with my other dog. It's mostly when food or treats are involved. However, it has also occurred randomly if my male just walks too close to her. We thought getting her fixed was the solution but after watching this video not sure what we should do now.

Hey! I love your videos and your dog and I thank you for all the time that you take to teach us. I have a question and don’t know who else to ask. I am buying a 4 month old Akita from a reputable breeder. The puppy has been socialized a bunch with people, dogs and environments. I also met the puppy and seemed to have an amazing temperament. I’m just a bit concerned about his age. You mentioned that the most important window for a puppy closes at 4 months (the exact age that I am getting mine). Do you think this will be a problem and is he going to have an easy time transitioning to a new home? Will our bonding be affected ? Is he too old? Thanks for your help!

No I don't think the puppy's relationship with you will be impacted. It will probably take a good 4-6 weeks for them to fully adjust though!

i dont know, what thiz means, but i was told by the breeder whom I purchased my akita, was an owner of security dogs, that he took out in pairs to protect properties, such as construction sites and other businesses with yards,He told me that when he leaves a pair akitas there, it has to be a male and a female, or two male, but one has to be fixed or they wont get along! that sounds like a dominance thing to me and I have heard this from someone else, also! any comments, why?

Hi! I am getting a 10 week old male Akita puppy in the beginning of February. I have another male dog who’s about 3 years old and is currently not neutered. He is a goofball who loves everyone and every dog! The Akita breed is one I’ve been interested in for a long time. I guess what I’m asking is, is this a bad idea? I love my dog and he’s simply not big or strong enough to stand up to a fully grown Akita. I’ve heard so many different things, I am just now starting to second guess myself.
@TheAkitaLife

Terrible idea. Akitas are same sex aggressive. You're also buying from a puppy mill because an ethical breeder wouldn't sell you a male dog with another male dog already in the household.

Hi! I’m getting an Akita in a few days, I’ve had one for 14 years I’m very excited to get my new puppy. I’m just wondering on what dog food you feed haga? There is so many options and I want to make sure it’s a good solid dog food for the Akita.

We started with Victor Purple bag, and it was great until he developed a chicken allergy, which is common in Akitas. Now we feed him Purina Pro plan, and rotate between salmon and pork base.

I think it originally spans from gelding race horses the saying with them is it will be the making or braking of them' but its defiantly not for dogs.

Ive owned 5different breed dogs in my life being kelpie x bull terrier female, husky x malamute female, akita x shepherd male, am staff x mastiff nale and and pure american akita female and desexed or neutered all of them and seen no difference in aggression with any of them although my pure bred is only 18mths so far, in south australia its law to desex unless your a breeder

I can understand your point but I find that humanizing dogs is very counterproductive. Humans and dogs have completely different bodies. Humans can be very emotional and our emotions are often controlled by our hormones and other chemicals in our bodies. Dogs, however, are not emotional animals. Their hormones do completely different things to them compared to us. I neutered my male dog and found that he became less SSA to other dogs and have also found that other dogs with SSA would not be aggressive with him. Testosterone can drive a dog to be more aggressive and can also drive dogs to be more hyperactive. When an unneutered male smells another unneutered male, he can see that other male potential competition. Thus resulting in aggression. It’s really up to people what they want in their dog but it’s more harmful than good to compare dogs to humans. At the end of the day, dogs are still animals.
@TheAkitaLife

Well it comes down to a few things. Of course there are absolutely differences between the physiology of dogs and humans, however, the statement "dogs are still animals" is an interesting one...humans are animals too! In the case of hormones, particularly specific hormones, the functions of the major ones in mammals (testosterone, estrogen, progestogen) typically function in very similar ways. It's more a matter of degrees than completely different function. For example when it comes to muscle mass, testosterone is a major driver of growth, but dogs don't experience lean tissue loss to the same degree as humans due when testosterone production is severely limited like in castration. As far as neutering reducing SSA, it really depends on which study you look at, and even then it seems to be somewhat breed dependent. The last consideration is that because neutering has been such an accepted practice for so long, that there hasn't been very much money put towards researching the long term negative impacts of neutering, while certain chronic or even fatal health conditions. I agree that ultimately its the owner's choice to neuter or not, however I see posts on the internet in various groups and forums on a WEEKLY basis of people inquiring about neutering their dog to "fix" a behavior. The issue with that attitude is, many people will forgo training because they think the procedure will simply fix all of their problems.

My Male Akita was never neutered. I figure my parents didn't do that to me, so I won't do it to my dog. He is age 5 now, and has never had any issues. I walked him 60 min, every day. And the myth that male dogs can develop cancer if NOT neutered, That has now been debunked by a male vet. who wrote a book about it.

Glad to see you have a new video on a great subject. I've decided against getting my Akita neutered. I think it causes more physicalogical problems as they get older and messes with natural makeup. Your just messing with mother nature and their is a reason they have those hormones. I hope Haga is doing well. Sounds like you have some reservations now about getting Haga neutered. Thanks for the video.

Comment is a diamond and shows a free thinker, the vet was almost insisting too hard, I care less of ones title or uniform, nature corrects self like a cut heals, my neighbors Schnouzer was neutered and quite obvious it was natures attempt to correct

I wouldn't recommend breeding, breeding should only be done if your dog has won a show championship, has taken and passed several health tests, and if you have the time to properly screen potential owners. You also need thousands of dollars in reserve for unforseen medical issues during the pregnancy and delivery

What behavior? I kept reading, and watching videos, about bad and aggressive behavior. My two babies are so gentle (because I gave them lots of petting.) Unwanted births? If you have 1, no problem, but if you have 2 like myself, just accept the extended family. The male wants to kill and eat other animals if he doesn't eat enough (has an enormous appetite, never gains weight), but that's about it. The female sees every small animal as prey. It's all normal. Will never neuter them. It's unsafe, and unnatural. Female is a barker, male is a whiner (because he's only half an Akita). Akita Inus are amazing companions, and huggable friends, but I would never leave them alone (unsupervised) with a stranger, even though they end up taking a liking to almost everyone, and are very friendly. The better you treat them, the better they will behave. That's what I've learned from my experience. Before I forget. I always discouraged aggressive behavior, by scolding them verbally, and I only say good boy when they're good, calm, and relaxed. That reduced aggression quite a bit, along with the petting of course.😊

Hi.. we love your video's. We have a brother and sister. They are 10 months old. Last month sister was in heat. Brother had zero interest in her. Maybe to young?? We kept them seperate for 5 weeks now In 3 months we neuter the sister, because we don't wanna have babies. We'll wait to neuter the brother till he is mature. And then we'll see..
