Nevarra is (excluding Tevinter) the nation we know a lot of but can't imagine how it looks like, and Rivain we know least and it'll be a surprise if we get to go there in DA4. The only thing remarkable about the Anderfells seems to be te Warden's fortress.

The only thing I have to write about Nevarra isn't even really about Nevarra but rather Solas' plans and how Nevarra disrupts those plans. So as you mentioned, Nevarra binds Fade spirits to corpses. A certain Mortalitasi believes this disrupts Solas' plans somehow, and I think I might know how. Solas is currently gaining allies and power. One of his greatest resources would be spirits of the Fade. I think he is trying to convince them to join his cause in restoring the merged world of Fade and Real. However, part of his plan involves empowering his own generals with special magical abilities. So what he intends is for the powerful Fade spirits to merge with his elvhen mages to create extremely powerful mages. We know spirit/mortal merging can do this from many examples. Wynne, Uldred, Zathrien, Anders, the Baroness, Sigrid Guldsdotten, etc. However, the Fade spirits have demanded some compensation and reassurances, such as the promise that the power of the spirits won't be abused or misused. Part of this agreement means that Solas must prove his intentions, and this starts by preventing most if not all binding of spirits by the opposing side. Meaning, Solas must stop the Magisters from binding spirits and demons with blood magic, and the Mortalitasi from binding spirits to corpses with necromancy. If Solas does this, then he will have the support of the Fade spirits. Hence he sends the Dread Wolf to brutally stop such efforts by those in Thedas and warns them to stop any and all attempts to bind spirits. It is also possible that Solas' ritual requires time and focus. We know what happens when a spirit and mortal fuse unwillingly. You get an abomination. So Solas' agents and the spirits that will possess them are likely locked in a ritual that requires mental conditioning and preparation as well as focus and precision. No mistakes. That means preventing outside influences from pulling on the spirit, such as through blood magic or necromancy which could disrupt the entire process. If his plan succeeds, he will gain highly powered mages to act as his generals, as well as regular warriors and rogues who will have their abilities augmented by the spirits. For example, Spirit Warriors, Reavers, and possibly Legionnaire Scouts or something like them. He will need these generals and soldiers in order to fight the evanuris once the Veil drops over their prisons and they are freed. Solas expects them to be weak when they are released, similar to how he was, but he will take no chances. His empowered mage generals will lead simultaneous assaults on them. (And the evanuris will crush them regardless, in my opinion.) So yeah. That's all I've got. I think this is Solas' plan, and in order to complete the ritual that fuses the Fade spirits to his followers, he first has to fulfill his end of the bargain and stop the people of Thedas from manipulating the Fade spirits.

This will be interesting because Blood Magic and Necromancy were always looked down upon but with the Dread Wolf being such a significant threat, both Magics will be what turns the tides on the Dread Wolf.
@BelieveIt10514 жыл бұрын
@@alyjahandujar1402 You could be right. These magics might also be used to draw out the Dread Wolf for an ambush.
@litheq3 жыл бұрын
Your points are interesting. One thought, however: It seems that a spirit and a mortal cannot fuse unwillingly. It's the corruption of purpose of the spirit (fusing with a demon) that creates an abomination. A mage might call for the help of a demon because of fear and desperation or a thirst for power, or a demon might promise things and trick the mage, but this is still with some form of acceptance. Mages can pull spirits from the fade unwillingly (corrupting them into demons in the process) but the merging itself presupposes some form of invitation from the perspective of the one to be possessed and acceptance of the invitation from the spirit or demon. So, the preparation you mention might be to avoid the corruption of purpose of the spirit to ensure merging with a spirit and not a demon.

@@litheq According to the lore, an abomination is created when a mortal and a spirit/demon fuse unwillingly. With Connor for example, the only reason he could be saved was because he accepted the demon in willingly. If the possession is forced or the person resists, you get that twisted flesh creature version like that mage that Uldred turns as we arrive at the top of the tower. We also see Ser Thrask's daughter become a twisted abomination when she is backed into a corner in DA2. She clearly didn't want to be possessed, but she called on a demon because she thought she was going to be killed or worse. That's why she became a twisted version. She called to it in desperation, but as she was being possessed, she tried to resist it, and lost. Eveline is another example in DA2. In Act 2 she stands in front of Tomwise's shop in Darktown begging for coins. In Act 3 there is a quest where she appears and has a different personality due to how she was treated in the Gallows. She turns into a twisted abomination as well. I think this is because she tried to control the power of the demon she called upon but simply lost control and was taken over. Or maybe there was a small part of her true self left that tried to stop what was happening. In any case, that is how the twisted abominations are created. It happens either when the mortal puts up a struggle, or if the spirit/demon is forced on the mortal and tries to resist. As for your point, I don't think you're referring to the same thing. You're referring to Solas' statement about how demons are created. He said that a demon is created when a spirit is twisted from its purpose. I don't argue against that, as that is shown to be the case with his friend Wisdom. She was twisted from her purpose and became a pride demon. But that's not the same as when a demon possesses an unwilling mage. Two different things. Also, there are some demons who are that way from the moment the manifest, but that's a different discussion so I won't get into it. Or maybe you are referring to Flemeth's statement that a soul is not forced upon the unwilling? Well, she might just be talking about clean possession, where the spirit or demon takes over completely without a fight, resulting in a normal-looking abomination. That is the kind of possession Flemeth would want from one of her daughters. She would not want Mythal's vessel to be a twisted version of an abomination. That's why in Origins if you read the description of Morrigan's Robes of Possession in shows that they were crafted to sap Morrigan's willpower so that she would be receptive to Mythal's spirit. Yavana also speaks as if she would willingly accept what Flemeth would offer her as a gift. I think you're right in most cases, that the mortal extends at least some degree of welcome to the spirit or demon. But I also think it is possible to have a demon forced on a mortal. It simply doesn't happen that often because only demons seek to possess anyone, and they can only sense mages from the Fade, not soporatti, and it would require another mage summoning that demon to the targeted mortal, but I think such a situation is possible. The thing is, the mortal can resist, which will always result in a twisted abomination. So there's not much point in any mage summoning a demon into an unwilling host. The only reason Uldred did it is because he was a demon by that point himself and just needed more magic wielding monsters for his side. Though in theory, a blood mage could sap a mortal's will to the point they put up no struggle against a possessing spirit/demon and that could result in a clean abomination with the spirit/demon in full control. Yes, I think that is the purpose of Solas' ritual, to ensure that the hosts are willing and that the spirits are not being twisted from purpose or forced. And his effort to stop blood magic and summoning in the real world is so the spirits are not distracted or pulled away during this critical process. However, I would point out that Solas sees many demons as spirits, with little or no distinction between the two. For example, he wasn't mad at the Wardens for using demons as tools, rather what they intended to use them for. So he might be inviting demons to participate as well, though his ritual might also include making sure the demons don't have any hidden agendas. Solas might also be sealing spirits or demons inside of weapons, in some cases. There are a few weapons in the games that imply they are inhabited by spirits/demons or their magic, which bestows certain abilities to their wielders.

I find the idea of a "lord of the dead" figure telling a group of people something like "stop disturbing the dead or I'll claim your soul" funny, if you think the people will react like "nah, that's our culture, it's what I do!"

The entire necromancy thing always sort of squicked me about Nevarra, but exposure to Cassandra (and now Vincent, his family, and Ray - though non canon lol) is bringing me around. It also feels sort of inevitable that we're going to end up there for at least some of DA4. The political situation alone, given the Qunari invasion, will mean the undead will be in the fight. Well... Yay dark fantasy DA? 😂
