You will not believe how easy it is to make a door frame! I have bought new doors so I could replace the frame in the past but NEVER AGAIN! I have made several door frames in the past and it is amazing how simple they are to make, a few boards, screws and wood glue and you are all set.
I made this door frame to accommodate an exterior door that was here at the new house when we bought it. This will provide a well insulated door for the new shop to keep the humidity out and the AC in this summer!

Great job Tyler. The prices of pre-hung interior doors are insane. I built my own frames also, its a little more time consuming but well worth the cost offset. For those who are wondering about the details of the task. Measure the door, add 3/16” to the top and sides. This will give you enough wiggle room in case your rough opening isnt plumb and square. Dont worry about the gap, you wont see it after you staple in the door stop and trim. Someone below mentioned security and the use of shims behind the plunger plate and hinges. I roughed out an extra 1 1/2” and used a 1x in those critical area vs using shims to get that extra thickness to install longer screws.

This was extremely helpful... I used to get irritated with videos that didn't explain every step and every tool but now that I'm a bit more experienced and own all of these tools already, it was extremely refreshing to watch this much shorter visual on how to do it. Don't let anyone criticize for not having enough information - different styles are helpful to different audiences. The 45 minute step-by-step tutorials are annoying as heck to anyone who generally knows what they are doing and are just trying to learn a new technique.

Great video Tyler! One thing I have done in the past that help me out is to tack a temp scrap piece across a few inches bottom to complete the square as you are installing the door, and shimming it up then you can pop the piece off and dis-guard. It is especially helpful if you are making 2-3 door frames at a time to help keep your sanity as you move them around prior to install. Keep up the awesome content !

From a security standpoint, and just good practice, you should shim directly behind the lockset, and deadbolt if there is. And my preference is to shim behind the hinges too, so you can use longer are screws. Looks good though

I usually cut the shims from hickory, or a similar wood with high shock resistance/hardness. Also, take two of the standard four screws out of the hinges and replace them with much longer screws, but with similar head appearance if possible. Same for the lockset, if possible.

Tyler, Dude you had me subscribed at 45 seconds in, and I was glad to see, just like me, you work alone. I have a lot of experience handymanning, so I already understand most of it, but I am always seeking to learn. It helps me to see someone else working alone though, because that can definitely change up how you would approach a task. Repurposing is very important to me also, not only because of its impact on the planet, but most of the time the older materials we reuse are of far, far better quality, and often look a lot nicer too. Excellent work, this will make my upcoming exterior frame replacement much easier. You seem to have a nice, pleasant way about you too, which this world needs a lot more of. Thanks 😎
