I think the fascination with Zombie's isn't about the zombies, its about the post apocalypse which people like because it represents a return to simpler times.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy Ok, great. my premise is that the film is about the rise of women. Oscar Isaac plays the old male, violent, drinking, dominating women. Domhnall Gleeson is the new male, gentle, thoughtful, kind. The black robot smashes it's arms to pieces in a rage because African women are still almost completely subjugated. the Asian robot can't speak because Asian women, while better off than African women, still have no voice. The white robot, murders the old male and locks the new male in a house, metaphor intended, while she goes off to, presumably, take over the world. Pete, what are your thoughts on my take?

Actually, the inspiration for the Indiana Jones series are the film serials from the 1930's-1940's and the James Bond film series (not the Ian Fleming novels). Comic books as we understand them didn't really exist until the very late 1930's. The earlier comic books were almost entirely digests of newspaper comic strips. Indiana Jones is also the spiritual heir of Allan Quartermain, but H. Rider Haggard's character never had adventures outside of Africa, unless a chapter on a pheasant hunt in England counts!

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull isn't bad because of the source material, it's bad because it's a poorly written movie that doesn't hold true to the original 3 movies in tone. The first act is great. Everyone gets upset with the gopher and the fridge, but those things didn't bother me. If the rest of the movie kept along those lines, great, but it went off the rails, going corny and goofy, and relied way too much on green screens to make a big feel. Of course all opinion.

Zombies are a thing because they are metaphors, usually representing the inevitable march of death. But they also allow us to view an unavoidable and disturbing terror, the fear that every human will always act in the worst possible way during the worst of times. But there's always a sliver of hope. People always try to rise above and use the horror to make life better for those around them. There's a bit of an in depth on how the apocalypse is always something humanity focuses on, and they mention why the zombie apocalypse is unique, done by a KZbin channel called overly sarcastic productions that can explain it better than I can here. But it has been done to death so I can understand the dislike of the genre.

This. I think it is also a way to sugar coat the violence. It is not human on human murder everyone. But more a predator prey situation so you can cheer on the protagonist with no guilt for their actions.

"usually representing the inevitable march of death." Romero was very clear in his anti-consumerism message of his early films, especially Dawn of the Dead. The pregnant woman representing the fact that children are born into this capitalist world where the only thing that matters is their ability to spend and keep the status quo.
@arcderek Жыл бұрын
@@jaysnow701 "you can cheer on the protagonist with no guilt for their actions." Most zombie media written in a post-9/11 world usually makes it pretty clear that zombies aren't the real threat: other humans are. The message about violence is more so that it makes us question when enough is enough. And when have the characters committed an act so depraved and necessary that it is their own crossing of the Rubicon moment? When has it changed them for the worse and destroyed their own humanity in the process (the abyss staring back), making them worse than the zombies? Can they recover from that? And if so, how?
