@@mph5896 it’s a skill diagnosing issues - to confidently call a fix requires testing - eg the comparing timing wave form from an oscilloscope (eg Pico Scope) with a known good - then you can say for certain it’s an issue or not. Root cause first - parts second.

Stopped helping friends find cars years ago, i get the blame if anything goes wrong with it 3 months later like i put a guarantee on it myself. Nope, not doing it anymore.

small local charities are the way to go. There is a dog charity local to me and when I retired 3 years ago I netted £100k tax free lump sum. So I drove there with a tray of dog food and whilst I was there I asked what did it cost to run every month - the lady said at least £1200 so I pulled out my cheque book ( felt weird hadn't written one in ages ) and just said - there you go £1250 to cover it. Then we both had a bloomin' good cry then a cup of tea and I left - and I am a cat person it was just the nearest local charity to me.

Remember years ago I looked at a car for the mother in law. Advised her not to buy it. Turned out her other half said it was actually fine in his opinion and she bought the car anyway. Unsurprisingly, it broke down repeatedly and somehow, I got the blame. 🤔 On another occasion, I looked at a prospective car purchase for a work colleague. Got a phone call the next day to say I had upset the seller who was a friend of their boss. Don't bother giving your opinion on cars to people. It's a thankless task. 😏

Surprised anyone buying a used car with a wet belt personally wouldnt touch them with a barge pole especially with that cost to replace, old tech is best tech get back to belts outside proven tech and you can see what your up against.

If it is erratic idle, it won't be the chain, more likely the vanos units. I had mine done, £1400.

Hi Chops, I have looked at many used cars, I reckon you could just sell the Hyundai without the hassle of some of the paint. Most dealers at that price range don't bother with refurbs

Lumpy from cold could be injectors bud, try some cleaner, could even be low compression on a pot until it warms up, doubt if it's chain, troublesome diesels mate.

Looks as though timing chains cause just as much of a problem as cam belts , mostly down to cheap chain guides that wear far too quickly !

A guy I was close friends with refused at the very last minute to sell me a Ford fiesta. He sold the car to some other person. He later told me the car had faults and didn't want me to own it . He was still a bad car salesman

On the Nissan it may well be the tensioner rather than the chain or the crank sensor. I had a 1.8 Almera years ago which threw codes pointing to the chain. It turned out to be a sensor but can't recall which. Crank position sensor I think

Agree. Total garbage now. My friend gets loads in as they are a good seller for him but he's got the disposition to deal with the headaches and they basically have fairy tree dashboards on everyone he buys.

Perhaps you need to develop your business; employ tech/valeter. Have one of units as a workshop, and the other as a showroom. You have a lot of space front, and rear for displaying vehicles.

I sold a mate a dacia, only made 100 quid, then it's oh tyres going down, I took the wheel off, 2 studs broke (!) next it's drilling, easy outs, caliper off, lending him a car for holidays, new wheel studs, he called this morning and said it's not going down any more, even tho I'd not touched the tyre, ha, ha.

You’re MGB, the drivers side tyre, it’s on the wrong way round. Shouldn’t it be the same as the passenger tyre with the V tread groves towards the front so it disperses the rain.

On chain stretch it's usually cam and crank sensor codes, but obviously very hard to work out it was the wrong solinoid. They've stitched you up on that BM bud, looks a grand to me and tbh I'd not want it at that, rough old thing. They obviously knew the faults, it's bad form if he's a mate, can't see anyone giving you 3k for it as is, I'd be kicking off about it tbh, too, too genorous mate.

James any BMW is a bit of a risk they are so unreliable cars . I bought one a few years back with 68000 miles it was a right pain it was always breaking down with electrical problems . Never go near any BMW again !!
