Lots of great advice. And yup cards will definitely get corrupted. I now have 2-4 dedicated SD cards for each camera and just rotate them. Some, the files stay on until I am ready to use them. Also I always delete the files and reformat each SD card bf each use. I am lucky to have had someone that shared a lot of information with me in all of this stuff when I first got interested in trail cameras. Great of you to share what you’ve learned with others. Have a great week Dave, Char😊

Good advice! I've tried to simplify my trail camera life in the past year or two. I had a mix of brands when I first started, and I became very frustrated with cameras dying on me. Both cheap Tasco & more expensive Browning Dark Ops stopped working for various reasons. I would say I have 4 of each which are junk or I have tossed already. The expensive Browning cameras dying made me almost give up on trail cameras. Thanks to you, I discovered the Garde Pro E5 two years ago, & I bought 6 of them at various times when they were on sale for $40-59. They are the only trail cameras I currently use. I like taking an inventory of what deer are on my property. I am cutting back on trail camera use, but I will keep a few out there this coming season.

Good tips, Dave. I've accidentally left batteries in a camera that I thought was empty. I've also made the mistake of mixing slightly used batteries with new batteries. 😩

Great tips. I should remove my batteries from my TC that are not in use. I made the mistake on my last backpacking trip of leaving the camera in test mode when I turned in for the night. Next morning my food bag was moved in the night but I had no footage on the trail camera. Rookie mistake or maybe I do not want to know what lurked outside my tent that night. LOL. Have a great day.

My way of mounting is that I PRE MOUNT my cameras and solar panels on a board at my home and pre-drill a hole at the top and bottom of the board (usually 1" X 6" X 12"). I then transport it to my land and climb the ladder 16' and have my electric drill and two 2" drywall screws ready to go, and in less than 1 minute, I'm back on my feet and finished. I prefer cellular cameras. I am currently using VYZE-LINK, but, next time I'm going to RIOLINK as I run 10 of them around my home and love them. They are a bit costly but worth it. Got my first VYZE cellular camera complete for $79 and it was a perfect test camera for my first CELLULAR CAMERA experience.

All great tips. My SOP is that I have about 10 to 12 cameras and am running anywhere from 7 to 9 at any one time. The remaining cameras are "sitting the bench" -- uploaded with batteries and SD cards that have already been downloaded and checked with current date and time stamp and all set to go. That way when I go out to retrieve a camera, I simply pull it down off my Stealthcam mount and replace it entirely with one of my bench reserve cameras, and I bring it back inside to download the SD card and check it over including the SD card and batteries or even clean the lens. That method prevents me from having a senior moment with the SD card or missing something else. It's also hard for me to read up close now and I don't bring reading glasses out with me so it's hard to see that battery status symbol especially if sunlight is shining on it or if I am being stealthy and don't want to give away my camera position to my neighbors who these cameras are intended to catch trespassing. And it gives me a reserve of a couple cameras if I feel the need to put another one out somewhere that I don't usually have one. I figure if you can afford a few trail cams, you can afford a couple more.

Good tips. Back to the sd cards, it's a good idea to have dedicated cards for each camera. Have at least 2 for each if you swap them out. I number each of my cameras and also the cards I use in them so there's no chance of corruption from a different camera model.

Great tips... I've definitely made those mistakes before. One of the things I like about cellular cameras is that when you walk away usually you know everything is working. I feel like I'm always gambling with noncellular cameras. So I'm always being extra careful with them. The batteries left in the camera is a new one for me and going to make sure I don't so that in the future.

Just a thought, cameras could have moisture inside and when storing indoors could cause malfunction?
@Jim-z8j4 ай бұрын
I like how you have your cameras low to the ground. I have 12 cameras out and they are not more then 15" off the ground. I have gotten the whole bodies of elk walking by at 15 yards. Too me, having cameras high in a tree is very unnatural to view animals.
@USMC-Sniper-01374 ай бұрын
You can store them in a Ziploc bag with those ANTI moisture packets with them once you bring them to room temperature (warmth) and if possible, open them (battery covers and panels) up and set them in the sun for a half hour or so to let moisture evaporate..
@blackie1of44 ай бұрын
Great comment!!! Especially if it is cold and damp outside.. then you bring them inside and just store them.. even in a Ziploc You'd have to let them come up to room temperature before storing them. Same with your firearms.. you should not bring them inside after being out in the elements and put them away. I prop mine beside a heat source for a day.. then wipe them down before putting away. Cause I made that mistake.. and it's terrible 😔

Great tips. I wont use SD cards from other exact same cameras. I have 2 SD cards for each camera,camera and SD card are both marked to keep straight. But i rarely pull SD cards anymore,im going all solar wifi cams. No batteries. And no need to pull SD card. Load photos from camera straight to phone. For me its just as quick and easier. All great tips that i agree with. The best way to store your cameras,is strPped to a tree

Good tips. Myself I use rechargeables of different brands but the same advertised output. At first I used to use the same set in the same cam. After checking my data on charging time to time in field. There isn't much of a difference between using one brand or mixing brands. Not disagreeing with you just saying what works for me.

Well, I think I just found out why my last SD card had most of its videos corrupted. About 4 in the beginning were OK and the very last one was OK. Everything (about 15) in between, wouldn't play. You have tested more trail cams than anyone else I know of on YT, tell me, which is your overall favorite for high quality night videos? Question 2: I'm a bit confused about not putting an SD card used in one camera into another camera without first formatting. How do you format it if you can't put it in the new camera?

Do not set up your camera in direct sunlight if possible. The sun will destroy the camera, mainly the PIR lens cover in no time. I have also had birds peck out the PIR. Any cameras that stop working, I will save for parts. I have sent cameras in to the manufacturer that were past the one year warranty for repair only to have them say it is unrepairable then try to sell me a discounted new one. I had them send them back to me and managed to combine parts to get some running again.

Never mount ur camera so its looking into the sun. A lot of them get glare and false trips. And to you camera companies....put the darn solar panel on facing backwards not forwards for this very reason. Think that would be a no brainer.
