Well before cell cameras, my mechanics instructor had that tip in '75. For heavy rear axels or drum brakes do one side at a time. Good tip!

Ft Carson, Co, 1986. Did a “brake job” on my ‘79 Dodge van. Upon driving it, and only a few feet, mind you, I heard “crunch crunch crunch” from the rear wheel. So I got to do it again. So, um, yeah, lesson learned. One at a time.

Good info! If you leave one side as is.. it’s a mirror image of the side that you’re working on. Great video!

took it to pepboys once for brake fluid replacement and they did a free brake check. the guy pushed the pin out so much he couldn't get it back in. free brake check cost me 200 bucks. and they tried to blame me.

Your a chrysler guy right, maybe you can tell me the truth behind the 5.7ltr hemi tick. My 1500 has just hit 60k and does not show any signs of the cam and lifter failure. But why does it happen? Will it happen to every well kept hemi? And can I prevent it from happening but turning off the MDS every time I drive? Can you help explain this issue. Love my hemi and want it to last. Lol appreciate ya

I watched my papa when I was young during rear drums on his ranger but when he was talking it apart he would lay each shoe and hard wear pice and spring on the ground like it was assembled on the truck and I asked why he did that he said that way you don’t have to walk up and look at the other side if you forget how it goes on I said you got a point

PROTIP: If it's anything like a Toyota, once you have the brakes cobbled back together you pull on the parking brake to ratchet out the adjusters until it stops clicking. Whether you check tolerances between the OD of the shoes and the ID of the drum is up to you.

Oh man. I did my first set of drum brakes ever maybe almost a month ago. Thankfully I did take pictures but unfortunately I didn’t take a lot of them and I ended up getting the pads backwards at the end. The longer pad had to be in the rear and I had it towards the front like an idiot, so I had to take them all apart and get them set up again properly. Drum brakes sucks only because of the stubbornness of the springs and everything falling apart on you.
