Rule # 1 NEVER go car shopping alone! Take someone with you! #2, Take a break to use the bathroom (even if you don't have to) to absorb and clear your head. #3 Step outside with the one who came with you to discuss or to get some fresh air. #4 If you start feeling over loaded with info, see rules 2 and 3. This is just a short list.....

Negative son. #1 rule is: do your homework and know EXACTLY what vehicle you want and what the price of the vehicle is before you even think about going to a dealer. #2: never say you're paying cash and always talk about the OTD price of the vehicle and ignore anything to do with monthly payments, remember the SALESMAN takes care of the car and the FINANCE department takes care of the rest. Sales don't need to know how you'll pay.

Two year old comment but perhaps the BEST tactic. The chair is the most powerful thing in the room. Once you get up the dealer loses the edge. It sends a message that you are close to walking out. It speeds up the process. Also, go when it’s about an hour to 1.5 hours before they are closing. They all want to go home. lol. Instead of them wearing you down, you wear them down.

A few takeaways from someone obsessed with watching your videos for the last 2-3 weeks: 1. If she was ordering the car she shouldn't have filled out the credit application 2. She never asked what rate she was approved for or what her base payment was. She also could have come in with her own bank approval 3. She was helping Kimberly do her job for her by coming up with ways the extra products made sense. Kimberly didn't have to try hard with any objections bc there weren't many 4. She never asked what the cost of any of those plans were 5. She never tried to negotiate ANYTHING. Including add ons or MSRP 6. She was asking the dealer what she should do? Don't ask them for financial advice bc they will give you an answer that benefits their agenda 7. Ray and Kimberly really weren't even all that "sleazy" with the sales tactics. And for someone never in this environment before I bet it is a pretty typical experience. She didn't know she could negotiate. Since *when* can someone negotiate *anything* off a menu, which is something so familiar? Burger and fries $10.99, ok! No questions asked.

In 2016, I accompanied my in-laws to a Hyundai dealership to purchase a new Tucson. I couldn't believe my father-in-law was way more interested in how much the dealer would pay for his trade-in than the price he'd pay the dealer for the new car. Argh! I made the salesman an offer at 15% off MSRP. When he returned after talking to the sales manager with a counter offer, I said, "No. This is the amount we are prepared to pay for the car. Period. If you don't agree to sell it to us for that amount, we're sorry to have wasted your time." After one more visit with the sales manager, the salesman returned with a lower counteroffer. I said, "No, and truth be told, my folks are getting kind-of hungry, so while you make that clear to your sales manager we're just gonna go down to Chik-fil-A to grab a bite." And with that, we got up and headed out the door. No sooner had I helped my in-laws into my car when the sales manager came running out to stop us from leaving: He said, "If you are serious about buying this car at this price, come back after lunch and I'll have the sales agreement drawn up for your in-laws to sign." As we drove off the lot, my father-in-law said, "I can't believe you did that."

I love how he stated that they never charge more than MSRP. When I bought my latest car that was the first price they quoted. I told them that I could pay full price anywhere and did not need their dealership. Since I was ordering the vehicle it took all emotion out of the deal and we got down to hard numbers. I already had bank financing so it was to the dealer to beat everything I already had done. These videos helped me negotiate a good price on the vehicle and get the one I wanted.

Years ago I was in the process of buying a Mustang. I took my Dad with me to make sure I didn't make any major mistakes. I found a car that I liked at a dealer in San Jose and we started "haggling" about the price. He had to "check" with his sales manager on every little thing. FInally, it came down to $50 difference. My Dad told me if he doesn't concede the $50 we're leaving. Well, we left. That same night we went to the Ford dealership in Los Gatos; walked in, made the deal at my price and I went home with a new car. Best part about the whole thing was the next day the original salesman from the SJ dealership called and said I could "have the car". My response was--sorry, you're too late, I bought my Mustang last night. Have learned a lot of watching your videos; am now in the process of trying to buy a new car after having my "old" one for 22 years and 200k miles on the odometer. Now, I'm taking my husband with me as moral support.

Thanks massively for these raw, realistic portrayals of car buying procedures. The real conversation approach helps to show what to look out for as red flags and how to find something that you're actually happy with, not just the dealership. If I can make a really big feedback request with these videos: please pause and interject on exact points of these conversations and point out what is happening, why it is good/bad, and what to do in these situations. You get these really nice inklings of red flag moments in these videos when a rep says "let's get you to sign the paperwork for finance check here", but to someone who hasn't financed before, it would be really helpful if the video paused and you interjected a quick blurb on why doing this impulsively is a bad idea. Same thing for any other points in these videos, of which there are a ton. Either that, or a sector at the end when you just recap the interaction and pinpoint the specific parts that are crucial to talk about them. I do honestly think interjecting in the moment is more likely to leave a lasting memory, so that when a similar phrase gets uttered by a salesman at the actual lot, your brain can click on and pull up your point on what to watch out for. Either way, the raw scenarios are beyond fantastic and much better than just bullet point how-to scripts alone, but I think these videos can absolutely solidify a sense of comfort if we had those interjections. Thanks again!

This was me before I started watching YAA! This is a perfect example of how you get talked into a purchase at any car dealership. It's just too easy to get swindled if you're not paying close attention. You spend so long at a dealership that you're exhausted and just want to get out of there with a new car and keys in hand before you leave. They know that and take advantage of it, especially if they see you're a first-time buyer. I love seeing these roles played out as it happens. This video will save consumers from making the same mistakes and provide them with more confidence. Thanks YAA!

This is what I'm trying to make my wife understand. NEVER GIVE THEM AN IDEA OF WHAT YOU WANT YOUR PAYMENT TO BE! You just wanna know their price, their rate. If you say $600/month and they could get you $550 per month...do you think they are giving you $550/mo? NO! They are coming back saying they got you close to the $600 you wanted...$611 is best they can do, I mean "what's $11 really"?

I told the guy, “hey why is the price going up when you’re not even adding anything to the paperwork nor are we negotiating price.” He looked at me all shocked and replied,” really? What was it at?” I told him the price and he did something to the calculations and brought it back down again. But it happened 2/3 times and I called him out on that. Had an amazing dealer and steered away from guys like this. Played my cards right and now I'm happily driving my first ever brand new car!!

🤣 nice slight of hand crossing out the lower deposit down and writing in the 6600 in its place. Now as a certified Ceramic installer it really drives me nuts when dealer sell some crap Amazon product to "protect their investment". And the clear coat does have to meet a specific standard. But, love the video and I'm waiting to see the next 2.👍

We're new immigrants and had no idea about all of this since it's also our first time buying a car. We wanted a CRV since we're a family of 4. To make the long story short, they said they're hesitant that we'll be approved for it since our credit score was premature (2 months) so they suggested (salesman and manager) that we get the accord or hrv and we'd just trade it in after 6 or 7 months once our credit was established. We ran short of time since we needed to pick up my son from the bus stop from school so my wife signed everything and settled with the hrv with a 650 monthly payment (something we're comfortable paying). Few days later when I went over the contracts and all, I saw from msrp of 26k, the total payments we're gonna make even after putting a 5k downpayment was 43k. 😢😔

This would explain why I was pressured to use the dealership financing instead of my own lender/approval. They tried telling me they can't work with my lender and needed to use theirs, so I said no, I'll use my approval at a different dealer.

I just got duped on the extended warranty. I paid $3,000 for 50,000 miles. The last time I bought it, it was $1,500 for 100,000 miles. After I left the dealership I thought $3,000 out of pocket covers a lot of work. Unless there is a catastrophic failure with the transmission or engine it was not worth the money.

I’ve been watching your channel a LOT in the last two weeks in preparation for helping my daughter buy her first car, and I feel so much more empowered and knowledgeable. I probably got a bit ripped off on my own car purchase because I didn’t research beforehand. Question: we asked for a PPI, and the finance manager said we can pay $250 for 48 hours/250 miles return policy. Or buyer protection? Something like that. We said no. It was already an hour after closing and we’d been there 5 hours. We will bring a mechanic to the dealership tomorrow. Of course, they said someone else could buy the car by then, though we’d looked at the same car at this dealership a week prior. Anyway, what is your take on buyer protection plans like what I mentioned?

I remember getting ripped off by Toyota dealer. He said I should pay extra for used car certification on my lease that I was just buying at the end of. I told him I didn't need certified used cause it was my car since new. Then he said oh wait I can give you lower interest rate if it's cetified used and then it won't cost you anything for certified used. But I think that was probably bs. I don't know.

Bought a car last month, did my own math before I went in. I knew putting down xx$ on a xxx$ car would leave me a $300-325 payment for 42-46 months. Course they played with all the numbers, tried to load in a bunch of crap extras and hide it by switching the loan from 48 to 72 months without saying anything. He just hoped I would sign after seeing $302 per month in big numbers. Paint protection, interior stain protection, road side assistance, extra warranty, etc.....Must have been about $5000 worth of useless junk, plus extending loan 2 years would have added on a bunch of interest. Told him no way, take it all off and do it for 48 months like I asked. Right away he said they could take $1000 off the warranty, so that just shows you how much profit they make off selling you this, they can cut $1000 off and still make money. This should all be illegal. After him wasting 30 minutes of our time playing with numbers trying to hide oversells we finally walked out with $292 for 48 months at 1.9%, just where I expected it to be.

585 at 72 months is over 42. Msrp was 33 so invoice was lower. So for sure that netted over 10k on that deal alone? I’m not too knowledgeable but that’s my guess. If it’s correct that’s a very bad deal.
