On my last new BMW purchase I politely informed the "extra stuff lady" that before she wastes an hour of her time, I do not wish to purchase anything else but the car. She looked surprised and we moved on to closure. Sometimes the employee knows exactly what the outcome is going to be and agrees to not waste each other's time. She moved on to the next customer.

For my first new car, the finance manager offered me the full extended warranty. I told him I had ASE certifications, so I didn't need it. He immediately changed the pitch to "getting an extended warranty shows the bank you're serious. Warranties help things get bought". I already had financing set through my own bank, but I gave him a shot to offer an even lower rate. He was about 7% higher than my pre approved loan. I also made sure we were negotiating at 20 minutes after closing on a Friday night. I had a lot of fun with that prick.

These are great. One thing people need to learn is if you know you do not want these products, learn to say no and be direct. A lot of people don’t like to be stern and outright say no because they feel they are being rude but if you answer with “no, I don’t really think so” or “I don’t think I’m interested”, the seller feels that is an opening to try to explain why they think you need it. When I have been shown this sheet, I let them go through their speech, and at the end when they ask what I think, I say “No I’m not interested” and when they ask why, I just say “I just do not want any of the products”. Usually that ends the conversation. I had a Subaru dealer once tell me “the bank is requiring the extended warranty as part of their interest rate offer” to which I asked “why would the bank care, please show me where they are requiring that otherwise I will just use my own preapproved financing”. They couldn’t come up with it and pulled the “I spoke with my supervisor and he said we actually don’t have to do that.” I know it is illegal for a bank to do something like that if they require you to purchase one of their own products in return but not sure if it is illegal for a dealer to use “coercive tied selling”.

Another reason to go through your Credit Union...mine is $400 for GAP!!! When I get to the F&I office and they start their sale...I let them do their spiel...then I ask for the brochure of the items they are selling so I can read the details. Then I ask for the actual contract to review its Terms. I tell them Thanks, but I need to read up on these. I spent weeks researching the cars to make that decision. I am not going to just sign-up for some unknown product. I then make them mark on the brochure their price and the last date I can make the decision to buy the product. I also am adamant up front that I do not talk in terms of "payment".

The menu was easily comparable, contracts and applications were done via electronic signature and when done I got a flash drive with all my finished paperwork on it not a binder of nonsense. Helped me compare a base warranty to yours and I asked questions you suggest like “by rate” and “how much do you acquire this policy for versus what I will end up paying”. The finance manager was shocked and I got him to lower the interest rate by a full percentage and cut off $600 on the extended warranty.

The next day he called and tried to get me back in the dealership, I asked if they agreed on the price, he hemmed and hawed and I cut him off and told him to call me when he can meet the price, but don't wait too long because I'm looking at other cars. He called two days later and I blew him off. I didn't buy anything at this time.

This is actually very educational, and very well done. The other thing Zack (the customer) could have done is, especially after watching this video, is, PRE SHOP all this stuff. Go to a forum or something, on the truck or car you want to buy... Start asking, what does the Platinum Warranty really cost?? What's the lowest anyone ever paid??? Do they really pay for repairs, or is it all the sudden a big hassle?? There's websites too, that go over all this.... So, a fictitious example: Now that Zack is armed with holsters full of knowledge... armed with that knowledge, Zack could brace the nice finance lady with "Look, HOW MUCH is the Platinum Warranty".... She will reluctantly say "ohh, it's $3895, but, just the screen in the dash of your new truck could cost that to replace!!!" Which might be true, but the young Zack, knowing that the bottom line on that warranty is like $2000 or so, can say "Look, if you wanna do the warranty for $1900, I'll do it right now, otherwise I gotta shop around on that, or my Dad will kill me..." Aaaannndddd, see what she says! She might say yes! Or, she might come back and say look, $2050 is the lowest I can go on that warranty..." And maybe you say okay, knowing that that IS a pretty good number.... KNOWING, what is going on, in the F&I office, is at least half the battle... Also, where are you buying key fobs for $50?? Could you put up the link?? Last time I needed a fob it was $110-ish for the fob, and then $100 to program it.... Or maybe I got scammed, but I shopped it some....I found out later a local locksmith guy who kind of "specializes" in that would have got me a new fob for a little less, and programmed it for a little less... but not massively cheaper. Not $50 bucks, wow. Maybe you guys really have never lost a fob....

I liked your video / role play. I have bought, financed, and leased many cars over the years. Rarely have I come across sales pitches from the Finance mgr. It has happened with a few, but not many. Working with local dealerships..where I get to know the sales and service people has always worked for me. Having said that...I am not going anywhere near any dealership until the auto market stabilizes. I truly feel empathy for anyone who absolutely must buy a new or used car in March 2022....your good work will really help. Thanks

@@ABlessedMomIAm How so? It would take 35 years just to break even. And Gap coverage is usually only necessary for however long the outstanding principal is greater than the current value of the vehicle, and that certainly won’t take 35 years. Gap coverage from the dealer is a scam, plain and simple.

Just bought a new car today, happy with the experience and deal. Dealer was clear on pricing as they did not negotiate on the car price, $700 over invoice and they were clear on add on pricing for each item. They asked me which if any I wanted to buy or not buy so they can get the paperwork going. Finance manager said they do not want to waste their or my time and everyone gets the same deal amd don't try to take advantage of people, I was out of there in about 90 mins. Best car buying experience in my life, don't think I'd ever go to a dealer that negotiates pricing ever again.

And this is why car dealers hate me. I have never bought a brand new vehicle that I didn’t get for so cheap and everybody was pissed off at me. Granted, I usually have to drive four hours but I always get it for six to $8000 under what everybody tells me I can get it for and I don’t pay for any of the extras, I just bought a 2022 ram with 9000 mileage for $27,000 after a dealership told me the exact same truck would be no less than 55,000 the trade-in value was $31,000

I basically trumped him and had him in The bag. So make sure you ask all these questions and make sure to negotiate the total msrp of the car and discuss the monthly in the finance managers office 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

You should make a video where you talk about average prices for products. Eg- Key cost on your own, Oil change, tire rotation and other details on average if you were to do it on your own. For the breakdown of the menu items. Just to see the price gap between reality and the dealership.

My joke is always, “I know there is always more on the table until the salesman and sales manager have chipped in part of their commission.” If Penetration is so important for the F&I guy, he should pay the customer $50 each for each of those coverages. e.g., price the Gap at -$50 rather than the $795 shown in the video. My attitude is, “If they lose money on one deal a year, I want it to be mine.”

I asked a Toyota dealership for a copy of the figures. Finally the salesman ran out with a sales paper but it was not complete and not even on the car I had looked at. I was going to go back for their figure price until then. I drove away and never went back. Another dealer got the sale. It seems once "price comparison" is mentioned dealerships stop wasting their time. To me that means competition is so strong they will not even try. All they want are sucker sales.

Never signed up for any extras until recently, deciding to at least get the tire and wheel protection on my latest car. Because with the older of my two vehicles, after my usual "I don't want any extras" process of declining the offer of various types of insurance, we had some very bad winters here in Michigan with lots of potholes. And for the first time in over 40 years of Michigan driving I learned the hard way that no matter how carefully you drive, the pavement is sometimes so chewed up in every lane that you cannot avoid every pothole during heavy traffic without crashing into somebody else in another lane, or slowing down so much that you risk getting rear ended. After having to pay full price twice to replace tires on my truck in about a 6 month period due to bad potholes, I opted to get that specific type of insurance on the next vehicle. And I have been glad about that because I've had to utilize it once already on the new car, and this time everything was covered, no charge. Much-needed repairs to our roads finally got underway this past year, so maybe I won't need to use it again. But if I had it on my other vehicle, it would've already paid for itself.

Hey Yaa thank you for your videos it helped me prepare to buy a new car, I finally was able to purchase the car I wanted and also to my surprise the finance manager had all the prices for items on the menu already I didn't have to ask for them. This time around buying a car was actually pleasant. But most of it was the dealer though they were really good. They gave me a good deal and didn't pressure when I didn't want to buy a menu item. I think what also helped was just knowing how the process goes. I think many of us aren't sure how the process goes and it can cause some stress. Also what was big help from your videos was going over the extended warranty. They did give a discount but I still didn't purchase because not sure if I will keep the car that long. Thanks guys

I walked out of a F/I office once when I asked if I could double dip a warranty claim. You know, Claim it on factory 3/36 year warranty and then turn right around and claim it on the additional extended warranty after some word salad and word trickery he said no. He said that only after the factory 3/36year warranty was up would this extended warranty pay. I walked out when they tried to charge me for something that I couldn’t even use for three years, such a scam. BTW I only drive 10k miles a year.

I chatted him up and in his woe is me story he let slip that a certain number of sales in a month would qualify him for a drawing on a new Harley Davidson. Costly mistake young man. I got the price I wanted. Bought new again in 2021. Worse by far experience at same dealer. Finance dude clicking his pen was his tell for when I was poking a soft spot. It wasn’t was choice because after buying the car, the company I work for was making the engine Block casting and that block had lots of issues. So In a year and a half we traded that vehicle and got rid of the gap coverage portion of the gap coverage payment back to us. Now we have a 2015 Toyota Corolla le No gap insurance it runs great. He gets the oil change in it every 3000 miles now I change the oil because one of the mechanics Left the filter wrench stuck on the car.
