Every AutoZone in my experience is always an AutoWait. Too few employees + almost always two or three people ahead of me in line equals too long of a wait. And who knows how long they've been waiting! I avoid AutoZone if at all possible here in the Rio Grande Valley.

Just the opposite here. You can't get 3 feet into the oreily's, advanxe or napa here without employees asking if you need help. They're almost too aggressive in their offering to help, some people like to just look, and with some of the employees they hire the customer probably knows more than they do

I used to work at O'Reilly's and it was policy to help as much as you possibly could. Several times I would be out front telling people how to replace the part and what tools they would need along with how much time it would take. A few occasions it would be someone older or maybe disabled and I would do it for them in the lot, if we we're too busy I would just use my lunch break.

Last month an employee at an Auto Zone was so sorry, he kept walking around the store while I was waiting to pay for something. Then he came behind the counter, went to a register next to me, looked right past me and called for the man waiting behind me. What an AH. Yep, I've had that happen. I've had to wait because they got a phone call, but been put on hold when I called them. It's been a year since you posted this comment. Have you figured out yet that you are the Karen in the wrong in this situation? I don't have faith in you so I'll explain it. All autozones are built the same. They all have that same area surrounded by those waist high racks with impulse purchases on them in front of the registers. This area is where a "line" should form. This "line" consists of people waiting to be helped. This is what normal people realize especially when there's a sign indicating that's what you're supposed to do. So when YOU waltz up to a random register before you're called any workers assigned to another register are going to naturally assume that you're already being helped by another worker or else you wouldn't be at the register because no one would have called you up. So that worker you speak of saw the first person waiting in line and called the first person in line. Autozone is a yearly billion dollar business, you're not. It's a well oiled machine in how it works, you're not. So next time don't randomly go storming up to a register and expecting them to read your mind that you hadn't been helped yet when you're the one out of line.

Some things you can skimp on and buy cheap, some you cant. Starters arent one of those things no matter where you buy them. I feel ya about O'Reilly. I went in one a long time ago when I had my truck and needed light bulb for it. Think it was a headlight bulb. Anyway. I went and found the bulb, went to check out at the register and no associate would help me. It wasn't that busy. No one asked if I needed help or said they would be with me in a minute. I saw employees coming in and out of the stock room and they looked at me standing there and NOTHING! So I just put my light on the counter and walked out. NEVER again will I shop at ANY of their stores. I know that there might be some that are good but, I love AUTO ZONE. Always had a good experience with them and they've always been friendly. Oh! The light that I was gonna purchase from O'Reilly, I went and got at AUTO ZONE. When I checked out, I told the guy checking me out that he was friendly and that they've always been nice so I'm gonna by a hat from them. I did! I bought an AUTO ZONE hat.

I love it when a car has an issue with something like the electrical system and some "expert" mechanic just keeps treating the same symptom, like continuing to swap out the alternator when it's something else that is causing them to fail over and over, and is to stupid to actually diagnose and fix the root problem. It's so confidence inspiring.

Then marked down to make it look like a better deal. Still higher than dealer. Supply pumps for powerstrokes used to be list 400 "your price" 325. Dealer everyday price 100. I was changing out a radiator on a Honda Pilot years back... first time I'd ever done a job that big myself. I bought one from O'reilly's. It had a lifetime warranty thankfully. Got the old one off and put the new one on only to find out the new one had a pinhole leak. So I got an exchange, but then I had to take everything off and put the new one on again. I was so frustrated when I went back to O'reilly's that I didn't even notice the new radiator they gave me didn't have the trandmission cooling plugs. At this time I didn't know what they were called. I took a picture I found online and took it up there. The associates didn't know what it was called either and didn't know what I needed. I waited until the next morning and went up there while the manager was in. He took the transmission plugs off the radiator that had the pinhole and handed them to me. I now live closer to an Autozone and they have been so helpful and always have what I need or can get it within a day.

I can tell you, it is hit or miss these days regardless of where parts come from. I have owned a repair business for over 14 years. i spend over 50K a year in parts and source them from just about everywhere. Alot of the parts stores source parts from the same warehouses. I have failures with all of them lately. I buy probably 5 figures from Rock Auto a year and had a few of the Remy Reman alternators fail. They don't make the parts either so it is still hit or miss. If you don't own a business, you are only buying a few starters or alternators in a lifetime. I buy them almost every week so the odds of a failure go way higher. The best I have found are Brand new TYCs, Rebuilt Denso or Bosch starters and alternators. No failures on those in over a decade. They rebuild their own here in the US to OE specs and not rebuilt in Mexico like most. Even the new ones in most parts stores are built in Mexico.
@Trainwheel_Time
@Trainwheel_Time 3 жыл бұрын
@@marcsmith3881That may very well be. However, the price difference can be huge. For example , I just replaced shocks, shock mounts, rear wheel bearings and rear stabilizer bar links on my mazda. Total price of parts from Rock Auto? 157 bucks. Same parts from autozone or advance? 320 bucks. The parts from rock are Monroe shocks, moog mounts, mevotech stabilizers and Timkin bearing and hub assembly's. All with warrantys and so on. The parts from zone and advance were whatever the cheapest they quoted... some of which I'd never heard of before and would have had to wait a week for them to come in. My days of buying at autozone and such are over. Even with 25 bucks shipping I was still way ahead and with better quality parts. As for alternators and such? I could probably get a rental car and wait for rock to ship me an alternator and still not spend as much as autozone charges. Discount parts my butt.

The store may look somewhat different in terms of color, but the people behind the counter are still the same. As such, I haven't had any issues. So, it all depends. It beats the thermal register printers that autozone uses, because those thermal receipts fade away to literally completely blank white after a number of years, even if stored away from sun. You have a lifetime warranty but better remember your phone # and be in their system, but also, "some" things they used to sell with a lifetime warranty, no longer have one, so your receipt is your only proof it had the lifetime warranty when you bought it. This is why I always make a scanned digital copy of receipts, which is not only for warranty purposes but if I were to sell a vehicle and my maintenance records are full of blank receipts, I can give the new owner the digital copies.

@CommodoreFan64 5 жыл бұрын
I'm a long time computer tech, and I can say for a basic printer the dot matrix printers work, and they are cheap to run compared to an Ink Jet, or even a lot of Laser printer, and most important they can handle the special paper where you get the top white copy, and they keep the pink and/or yellow copy for their records, and as others have said they last longer then a thermal receipt. you can still buy Okidata Dot Matrix printers all day long, and the tech is much much older then 1981. I use to work for a tractor dealer in the early 00's and yes we used Dot Matrix printers back then as well. also if you are getting jams in something like an Okidata dot matrix printer, you need to check your ribbon, and the print head might need cleaning.

Great video here. Personally, I have more bad luck with Autozone parts than I do with O'Reilly since Autozone seems to carry more older and remanufactured parts that seems to have far less life to them. I had bought 3 different starters from them, and they all seem to be defective one way or another. The staff do not seem to know much about their parts or tools either. That is my opinion though. As with the Batteries in America, you are right during the time of this posting of the video. Most aftermarket car batteries sold in the U.S. are made by three companies that build them for retailers: Johnson Controls, which supplies more than half of the market; Exide; and East Penn. back on May 20, 2019. Today in 2022, there is only one, North America EV Battery that makes all the batteries since they all had merged into one company. Also today, each auto manufacturer is racing against each other in making their own batteries for their cars.

My Igntion key switch broke and i pulled in a Autozone and went in for a new one which they had in stock, the young man at the counter ask if i wanted it installed too, I said sure because i had no clue how to do it and was expecting it to be a nightmare, he walked to my truck with a little screwdriver and popped the broken switch out and placed the new one in inside of 30 seconds, what the heck!, some of those guys at the AutoZone are good.

Yep does not matter what retail store, or any business with multiple locations, you are gonna have really good ones, and really piss poor ones that can make the others look bad, and give people a bad impression. I use to work for Dollar General for a number of years as a 2nd job, and saw that kind of stuff first hand, where my store was always called the good store that did things right, where the DG the next town over people would come into my store, and complain about it being nasty with rude employees.

@@CommodoreFan64 so true. The AZ across from my O'Reilly (currently at work) has pissed a lot of people off, and they have come here. I'm sure we have stores like that too...but to say not to go to O'Reilly is just a weak excuse to bash a company. Not everyone likes one or the other when it comes to parts stores. Napa Auto Parts store owner since 2009. Something most people don't realize is when you buy parts from auto zone, oreilley's, advanced that money gets deposited into a local back then wired out of town the next day. When you buy parts from a locally owned Napa Auto Parts Store that money stays in that local bank and is spent in YOUR community with local dealerships, restaurants, car mechanics, grocery store.... The list go's on.

The rebuilt alternators at O'Reilly are Cardone units. So are the alternators at AutoZone. And Napa. And all the others. I used to carry truckloads of big boxes of alternators to Harlingen, TX, to the Cardone transhipping warehouse. And I carried truckloads of rebuilt alternators back to their Arlington, TX, distribution center. Open the door, and there would be pallets of AutoZone, O'Reilly, Napa, and all the rest on that one truck. They would load those pallets on trailers, and then I would take them to the AutoZone, O'Reilly, Napa, etc. distribution centers. And the manager of the warehouse told me that as much as 75% of the alternators they got in, when they got to the Mexican plant, had nothing wrong with them. At least, as far as their tests could tell. They still replaced the rebuild parts, but they figured it was the parts houses' money being wasted, because the stores weren't sufficiently testing them. Personally, if I got a bad alternator at O'Reilly, I'd just go to a different store, figuring the chances of having two bad alternators come off the line days or months apart was pretty slim.

I feel I speak for ALL customers when I say we HATE to be up-saled at the counter (or anywhere). I went to an Autozone years ago to buy a can of Graphic Red paint for a Dodge truck. They didn't have it on the shelf, but it was listed in their book. I asked them to order it for me and they said they couldn't because it is not a color they normally carry. I told the guy it's listed in the book hanging right from the shelf of spray paint. He said their stock is automatically refilled by the automated system and if it isn't something that they normally carry he couldn't even order it. I went to Oreilly's and told the guy behind the counter what I needed, and he asked how many cans you want I told him, and he said they'll be here tomorrow around 11:00am. I went back the next day and there they were at the counter waiting on me. I've not been back to an Autozone since. I always go to Oreilly's.

I had a bad experience with Auto Zone. Had a starting problem and took it to Auto Zone for testing. I was raining so the guy would not come out to check the battery and alternator. I went to Advance Auto and the guy came out and checked the battery, said it was to low on charge to test the system so he took it inside and charged it while I went next door to have lunch. When I got back he told me it would not hold a charge. I had him put it back in the truck and he gave me a jump start. Went to Wal Mart and got a battery much cheaper than any of the parts stores sold them for. Went back to Auto Zone and they checked my electrical system. Alternator was bad so I got a new one there. It was still going strong when I got rid of the truck 3 years later. Needles to say I always shop at Advance now and get great service.

I needed gear oil. Manual said GL-4 for the trans,GL-5 for the diffs. NO ONE in ANY parts store knew the difference. But they all wanted to sell me something. I got GREAT advice,like "Put Mobil-1 in it." Bad idea. Mobil-1 will tell you that if you look it up. I have internet. I educated myself. GL-5 has EP additives containing sulphur. Great for the all-steel differentials. But those same additives eat yellow metal. Like synchros. I found good old Sta-Lube 90 wt GL-4 at NAPA. Don't rely on Autozone or Oreilly counter clerks to know tech info. Do research. Its online.

@@trhuyanh1996 a old saying goes: "you get what you pay for." Often when you get the cheapest part, it's likely that you get an inferior part. If you have a tough job with a cheap part, you might want to think twice.
