Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

@@kgmotte2363 That's the thing, though: Ferengi workers don't want to end the exploitation: they want to become the exploiters themselves. They "play by the rules of the game," in a highly aggressive, yet organized society- and are always careful when upheaving something, not to do too much, least the price of their gold-pressed-Latinum drop. Humans, on the other hand, will take completely self-destructive and collective-destructive actions just to get at someone they hate enough. The story missed the best explanation for how clans attempting to back stab each other can destroy a rival empire in a video game: "I against my brother, my brother and I against our cousin, and us 3 against the world." One should never give humanity a common goal to unite against.

a fun running theme in these is that humanity's not the biggest strongest or even really the most outwardly agressive... thats not why you should avoid war with them... you should avoid war at all costs with them becuase they're so damn good at making up for reletivly unassuming size and deminer by mass producing universe exploding weapons... so basicly just modern humanity after they learned the only sure way to protect themselves in a populated universe was to always defualt to the scorched earth policy of conflict.

It's that it's more than just strength or weapons. It's about the fact that we have done it for so long, that tactical and intelligence is practically second nature to us. We've figured out the ins and outs of war while most other races still think it's either about the best technology or the ability to out-power your enemy. Things like flanking, baiting, alliances set up for betrayal, martyrdom, decoys, diplomacy, etc. etc. We have mastered war to a level that most others would not have even thought of.

Videos like this always make me think of the prologue to the "Man/Kzin War" series. It goes roughly something like this. "When they Kzinti first came across mankind and saw they no longer practiced war they thought us weak. What they didn't realize is that we no longer practiced war because we had become so god damn good at it." This segues into the first chapter where an unarmed human research vessel defeats a Kzinti warship by turning the ships thrusters towards the Kzin and cooking them.

Some time ago I read a short story about the Galactic Brotherhood. They determined that a star was about to go nova. It had an intelligent species on the 3rd planet that the Civilization had just discovered. They sent a shop to investigate and possibly evacuate as many of the inhabitants as possible. But much as they searched discovered that the planet had been abandoned. They realized that one installation was still working and noticed it was focused on a particular part of the sky. They went in that direction and discovered the entire species had set out in rocket propelled spaceships. millions and millions of them. The scientist of the ship told the captain, "it took us one million years to reach into space. It took them 200 years. We had better be nice to them. We only outnumber them one million to one." The captain thought is a fine joke. Twenty years later he didn't think it was a joke.

"When they ran out of guns they used knives and sticks, and bare hands. They were magnificent. I only hope that when it is my time, I may die with half as much dignity as I saw in their eyes in the end. They did this for two years. They never ran out of courage. But in the end, they ran out of time."

Yeah... they'd give this fictional professor nightmares. Especially once she finds out how they treat xenos. I'd get a big laugh to once she finds out they lobotomize their own people to make the equivalent of a controlled Borg collective of slave labor.

In Star Trek lore: Humanity finish progressed because loosing a majority of the species meant there was no one to tell Zeframe Cochrane not to develop warp drive. It’s pretty hard to be a racist, sexist, or religious fanatic when every second person on the planet died violently in a global nuclear conflict for pretty much the same reason. So humanity picked themselves up, dusted themselves off, and got to work having put the lid on their aggressive behavior towards one another rightfully fearing their insatiable capacity for self destruction. Humanity’s war against the Klingons wasn’t with Earth dedicating every once of intellectual resources to eliminating the Klingon threat. Once humanity gained the upper they applied the brakes to the conflict and signed an armistice with Qo’noS. Individual humans may harbor hatred toward Klingons, but humanity will not allow itself to collectively despise a species knowing where that road ends.
