🔺[NEVER LEAVE 2 - BACKSTORY]🔺 As time drifts on in this forsaken labyrinth, your sense of reality begins to blur. The facility has become your world, a sprawling extension of your thoughts and dreams. Yet, amid the comfort of this self-imposed isolation, you can't shake the nagging question that has been lurking in the back of your mind: why are the machines still intact, and why do they seem to be calculating strange programs? You explore deeper into the facility, venturing into areas you hadn’t yet dared to tread. Some rooms are filled with machinery in various states of disrepair, their wires tangled and dusty. Others house systems that are miraculously operational, their screens alive with swirling data and arcane symbols. How is this possible? One day, you stumble upon a small, circular chamber you hadn't noticed before. The walls are lined with old, humming machines that pulse rhythmically, almost like the beating of a heart. In the center of the room is a large, sleek console with a single, solitary screen. It flickers erratically, displaying lines of code and diagrams that seem to change every time you glance away. As you approach, the console's screen stabilizes, revealing a strange, familiar interface. It’s as though the machine is recognizing you, drawing you in. You sit at the console, your fingers hovering over the dusty keys. The system seems to be waiting for input, as if it’s been dormant, awaiting the return of a long-lost user. You type a few commands, tentatively. The screen responds with an array of data and diagrams, showing complex simulations and algorithms beyond anything you’ve encountered. One particular program catches your eye: it appears to be a simulation of the facility itself, a real-time model of its structure and the anomalies you’ve been observing. Curiously, you delve into the program, attempting to understand its purpose. As you manipulate the data, a new layer of the simulation becomes visible. You see a detailed timeline of the facility’s history-projects that were started, experiments conducted, and an abrupt end marked by a catastrophic event. But there is something else: a series of encrypted files and a hidden protocol named “The Continuum.” Your heart races as you decrypt the files. They reveal an astonishing truth: the facility was designed as a sanctuary, not just for ideas, but for its creator. The experiments and machines were intended to ensure the creator’s survival and solitude after a predicted global catastrophe. The facilities' systems were designed to remain operational despite the decay of its surroundings, to preserve the knowledge and protect its solitary occupant. The screens that flicker and the programs that run are not simply relics of a bygone era; they are part of a continuous effort to maintain a form of existence even in the face of destruction. The creator’s mind was meant to be preserved, their thoughts and discoveries forever enshrined within the facility’s walls. The realization hits you with a mix of awe and unease. You are not just a visitor in this place; you are a part of its design. The solitude you have embraced was not merely a choice but a carefully orchestrated aspect of the facility's purpose. It’s as though you’ve been drawn here by a force beyond your understanding, a force that intended for you to continue the legacy of the mind that once inhabited this place. As you sit at the console, the weight of this knowledge settles upon you. The facility's isolation and the strange, ongoing calculations are not anomalies but the very essence of its creator's final vision. You find yourself faced with a choice: to embrace this role and continue the work left behind, or to seek a way out and confront the world that you’ve left behind. You realize that the facility is more than just a sanctuary; it’s a living testament to a solitary genius’s attempt to transcend the limits of time and space. And now, it is up to you to decide whether to honor that vision or forge a new path.

Have you considered doing a "Backrooms Outpost", "Backrooms Field Research Base", etc., type of theme? You would have your pick of crazy levels from the non-Kane Pixels original fandom, or do what a lot of creators are doing and imagine your own.

Knowledge must be be shared, all this information & data will do no good trapped within these dusty walls. Wisdom is a circle, what has been taken must be returned. Greed is the enemy of knowledge & curiosity.

They’re AI-generated, at least the foregrounds with the consoles and computers. The backgrounds and effects look like they’re composited in layers underneath and on top of that image.

In 200-300 years when musicians are studying this century, I hope they find all the ambient composers and define our generation by them: a group of people drowning in late stage capitalism, looking to replace our reality with soundscapes of terrors we'd rather live in.

Thank you for such an interesting comment! Like most, I see the future in a fundamentally positive light-it’s the drive behind everything I do. That said, we’re all so busy in our daily lives that sometimes we just crave a space to unwind and let everything go. These imagined places may feel a bit eerie or adventurous, but I’d say they fall more under "entertaining" than genuinely threatening. We all enjoy a safe thrill, without the real-life risks. The unknown aspects of the future can feel intimidating because we lack full control or clarity, which can indeed feel overwhelming, like being part of a system with a life of its own. Still, there’s a reason people love thrillers, horror films, or dark stories-they tap into that curiosity for the unknown and the thrill of the mysterious.
@underreignsАй бұрын
@ambientoutpost oh I completely agree. I say it with the most respect and admiration for the dark. Horror is my research area in academia. I find these spaces so comforting. Love what you do. These outposts have become a new staple in my life.

@@underreigns Your research sounds fascinating! I'd love to hear more about your work in horror studies-it must give you such a cool perspective on these kinds of spaces. And thanks for the clarification! I wasn’t totally sure I read your comment right, but now it all makes sense. Glad these outposts have become a part of your routine!
