[NEVER LEAVE - BACKSTORY] - You find the facility by accident. One moment, you’re hacking through the thick undergrowth of the jungle, sweating through your shirt, wondering if this trek was worth it at all. The next, you stumble upon a clearing-a vast, impossible space carved out in the dense, emerald heart of the jungle. There’s no path leading to it, no sign that it should even exist. But it does. Before you stands an enormous building, hidden beneath a lattice of vines and moss, ancient-looking yet strangely modern. Glass panels shimmer in the fading light, half-concealed by leaves. You step closer, hesitantly, and push on a rusted door. It opens with a reluctant creak. Inside, you feel the rush of cool air against your skin, like a sigh of relief. The place is dark, except for the faint glow of screens scattered across tables. You walk further in, your eyes adjusting to the dim light. The floor is littered with strange gadgets and piles of books-thick tomes filled with equations you don’t understand, diagrams of machines you've never seen before. The screens flicker to life as you approach, sensing your presence. On them, complex data flows like rivers-maps of the stars, chemical formulas, blueprints for things you can't comprehend. You realize that this is no ordinary facility; it is the lair of a mind far beyond yours, a mind that delved into the mysteries of the universe with reckless abandon. You feel a shiver of excitement, of fear. Who built this place? And why did they leave it? You wander deeper. The facility seems endless, a labyrinth of ideas solidified in metal and glass. You find a room filled with jars containing specimens-plants, insects, things you don't have names for. Another room holds walls of bookshelves, each one filled to the brim with handwritten notes and theories scribbled in the margins. There is a strange comfort in this chaos, an odd peace. You realize that the din of the jungle has quieted to a low hum, as if you’ve crossed a boundary between worlds. You sit in a chair, and as you do, the screens around you pulse, eager to show you more, to tell their secrets to the one who has found them. You decide to stay, just for a while. Just long enough to explore the mystery of this place. Days pass-though you have lost count of them-and you begin to understand that this facility is not just a relic of some mad genius; it is a monument to solitude. Each room seems designed for a different kind of thought, a different way of confronting the vastness of existence. You find yourself strangely drawn to this, to the idea of a life lived entirely within the confines of your own mind. Here, there are no distractions, no noise from the outside world to cloud your thoughts. Just the sound of your breath, the hum of the screens, the whispers of the leaves against the windows. You realize you could think forever here. You could learn forever. And the more you think of it, the less you feel the need to leave. The outside world becomes a distant memory, a half-forgotten dream. You decide, quietly, to stay. It’s not a decision made out of desperation or madness; it’s something deeper, something more profound. You find that you have fallen in love with the silence, with the solitude. The facility becomes an extension of your mind, its corridors winding through your thoughts, its strange machines ticking like the gears of your consciousness. You begin to understand that this is what the facility is for-not just to house ideas, but to cultivate them, to let them grow in the fertile soil of your solitary mind. The screens blink and flash, waiting for you to ask them questions, to engage with them. They seem alive with potential, with knowledge just out of reach. As the days stretch into weeks, into months, you feel yourself becoming a part of this place. You can’t imagine leaving it. You don’t even want to try. The solitude is no longer an absence; it is a presence, a companion. Here, you think, you could live forever. And maybe, in some strange way, you already are.

Does anyone else love feeling safe and in danger at the same time? Like safe but in a dangerous place. Like this office looks cozy but the world outside the windows looks sinister, threatening even in its beauty. They seem to go together so perfectly. It helps me get to sleep by imagining myself in places like this. Like I'm in a powerful fortress with thick walls or lethal defenses while outside unspeakable horrors are lurking. They want to break in and get me, but so long as the security perimeter holds, they can't. I'm safe. I don't have to worry about the monsters, even if they might be right outside my window. My fortress is too strong for them, and for now I don't have to venture outside.

In a way this is why I like the Fallout games. It is a horrible place to live yet I feel so comfortable in it. Especially in Fallout 3. Sometimes I wish it was real, life would be easier and simpler in that apocalypse than the BS we have to deal with in our fucked up modern world
