I wanna adopt/foster older kids. Just because they've experienced trauma doesn't make them broken or not deserving of love. Every time a foster kid is violent people point and go 'see! all foster kids are demons!' (my mom is like this) and yet so many more people are hurt/killed by their own flesh and blood relatives...

An honest question.. although the childhood trauma doesn’t justify the evil act, is it right to say it’s “good”that this man suffered in death, just as he had suffered in life? That means we’re justifying torture in the US, if this is a popular notion. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that if he hadn’t been so profoundly abused as a child, he wouldn’t have turned out that way. Is it not appropriate to show some level of compassion, if only for that reason? This is a moral quandary and I personally don’t know what the answer is, and there probably isn’t one. It’s purely subjective, but I feel sad for him and for her. I feel sad that trauma begets trauma. This is how I feel about people like Dahmer. Their actions so vile, they’re so sick and compelled beyond their own control to stop, and in the end regretting what they did. It’s all so sad, and the despair began in him and spread to others, and the psychological disorder we call psychopathy is to blame. But how can that be healed? Why not hold the abusive parents responsible for these crimes, as well? Then we’d have to question the parents before, I guess and then it would never end. Idk, I just find these situations emotionally compelling and so tragic. I grieve for that little boy, but hate the man for what he did.

I get both sides of this argument, some people are in a position to fully and properly dedicate the time needed to help undo the damage done to some of these kids. Other people, like pig, have their own kids already and when you bring in an older kid in who may act out on your children, you have to be cautious. You don't want to cause more trauma on the adopted child and then traumatize your own. It's a really iffy line and while I agree every child deserves love, I also believe they deserve a family that's capable of handling them. You don't shame people for not adopting disabled kids they can't support, I won't shame them for not being able to handle older kids either.

@@AshChiCupcak it's not even so much him not being able to handle an older child, that's fine, but he's essentially saying kids past a certain point are pretty much lost causes. The fact kids over 6 or 7 are likely to have trauma if they're up for adoption is one of the reasons pro lifers want to ban abortion. Even though there is millions of children up for adoption there is a shortage of babies and toddlers because people don't want to deal with the trauma. I can't have children of my own and if I ever want to adopt I want to make it a point that I will adopt kids over the age of 8. I know there's a possibility that they will have excessive trauma but so do I and I know what it's like to grow up traumatised. I think that personal experience will help with connecting to them. Plus I want them to be old enough to wipe their own ass and not have to be under 24 hour supervision. My plan is the open a cat sanctuary for disabled and elderly cats so I want the kids to be old enough to trust around the cats. I'm not adopting as a hiring process BTW, the sanctuary will be my house though so I need to know that the kid won't start like, bullying the cats whilst I'm in another room.

I want to adopt older kids. It makes me feel so sad and angry that people just disregard children over a certain age. An older child, even one who has trauma, still deserves love and a family. Also, statistically speaking, people are so much more likely to be abused or killed by their blood relatives than a foster kid.

Fair warning, I work in Special Education with a specialty in children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders. Like, very violent children. One of my intense students was also adopted at birth, and they didn't really notice his violent behaviors until kindergarten. They only got progressively worse, and by the time he came to me, he was attacking adults daily. So, there is always a risk in adopting. It is still a very rewarding thing.

I'm sorry, but that comment about adoption kind of upset me. He was a child in need of guidance and help. What they could of done is gotten him the help he needed instead of giving up. Most children in the adoption system have their own struggles they have to deal with. The idea that adopting them is "dangerous" because you "never know what they could be like" is absolutely ridiculous. When it comes to adopting, it is up to you, the Adult to understand all the needs of the child you choose to adopt. They're not some property you buy with no understanding of how they works and function. Children/teenage children need adoptive parents too, not just kids. I'm sorry but that comment was far to ignorant/misinformed for me to say nothing.
@BoxOKittens2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you're not the only one in the comments sounding off about that. Unfortunately it's a very common mindset, my own mom thinks like that. I've always wanted to foster older kids and she hates it. It's also ironic since it's statistically MUCH more likely you'll be killed by your own biological family than any adopted kids. But sadly the whole 'blood is everything' idea is so ingrained in most people they don't even see it.

Pig’s comment about adopting older children bothered me a lot. Just because they’re traumatized doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a chance or love either. The whole reason kids turn out like this is BECAUSE they end up either adopted by people who don’t care to actually help them, or people who just disregard them and let them live their entire 18 years in the system where they’re so deeply traumatized and without any actual parent their entire life. You don’t just write off children past a certain age because you think they’re a lost cause and it’s ‘easier’ to get a baby. All children deserve a chance to be loved. It is your job to decide whether you can handle a child’s issues BEFORE you adopt them and before you decide to just give up on them. Babies are traumatized from the system too. It’s horrible. Regardless of what age you adopt, there’s always a chance, that shouldn’t change whether you adopt older kids. There’s millions of older children who are up for adoption, while there’s a lot less babies in the system. Why? Because people think older kids are a lost cause and choose to pretend that they don’t exist.

Yep Doesn't matter If you found God or not as a Catholic I can say that much If you did, good for you maybe he will give you mercy in the afterlife but doesn't matter what you did consequences of your actions will catch up to you and you can't expect your crimes to magically disappear just because you found God, honest or not. Religion doesn't clear you of your crimes on earth and It's not cruel it is justice. As much as I don't think a death punishment should exist that's what your country gives you and that is what that person chose by crossing that line. I am writing this because a lot of people have that misconception about Christianity in the sense that once you believe and admit to your faults you are freed of the consequences and it's just not true. I find using that false claim as an excuse pretty despicable but I guess you would try anything to stay alive. Enjoyed your vid as always.
