A lot of people think he is being "dirty" in the first half of the first verse. He really isn't. "sheets of empty canvass, untouched sheets of clay, lay spread out before me, as her body once did." There's a suggestiveness sure, but it's not what many think.

Man I was 16 when the 'Ten' album came out. I already liked classic rock and played guitar since I was young and then Grunge came exactly when I was a teenager. It was incredible! When I heard 'Nevermind' for the first time with my brother, who also loves rock music, we were totally mesmerized. What was that sound?! Lots of distortion on the guitar, the bass is always at a high volume. And Eddie and Cris Cornell's lyrics!

"The love gone bad, turned my world to black, tattooed all I see, all that I am, all that I'll be". The relationship is over, she has left him and he is having a hard time coming to terms with it, but he knows she'll be ok "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star...in somebody else's sky, but why, why can't it be mine?".

I am a 30+ card carrying member of the Grunge Era! I was 16 years old when Grunge hit the scene. I can remember where I was when I heard Pearl Jam for the first time. Honestly it was like a religious experience. I heard Eddie sing and it just struck me. You can’t go wrong with any of the Grunge bands. Try Alive in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Soul Asylum, Hole. Unfortunately all the front men for the Grunge bands except for Eddie have all died. I still rock these guys and it literally takes me back to the parking lot in Hugh school. My buddy called me over to his 280ZX and played Evenflow and it was crazy.

"The song is about letting go. It's very rare for a relationship to withstand the Earth's gravitational pull and where it's going to take people and how they're going to grow. I've heard it said that you can't really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. It's a harsh one, because then your truest one is the one you can't have forever." -Eddie Vedder (he later married the girl this song was about, but then they divorced 6 years later)

In the early nineties, four bands emerged from the obscure Seattle underground, and shook the world to it’s knees. They were: Alice in Chains Nirvana Pearl Jam Soundgarden Together, they were known as “Grunge.” And there were many others, of course. But that list is a starting point.
@jasong.51652 ай бұрын
Alice in Chains wasn’t grunge. They were “rebranded” by their label as grunge when it became popular just to take advantage of it.
@robbob53022 ай бұрын
@@jasong.5165 Not only were they Grunge, they were literally part of the definition of “Grunge.” To ask “Does this band sound like they are Grunge?” we need to ask “Does this band sound like Alice In Chains?” If AiC had released the Hokey Pokey, then the Hokey Pokey would have been Grunge. AiC was one of the band who decided what Grunge was. But on a more serious note, I will present Layne Staley’s vocal as my evidence. Forward placed. Nasal. “Twang.” Like we hear in Country or Grunge. As opposed to “Dome.” Like we hear in opera or metal. And yes, many of these bands say they really weren’t “Grunge.” Just like many heroes claim they are really not “heroes.” But both are still out there, regardless.
