You could just protect the work piece by hot gluing two thin wooden blocks on each side of the corner to serve as contact areas for the sharp points. When you're done, wet the blocks with some isopropyl alcohol and the hot glue will peel right off. You can also use double sided tape instead of hot glue.

Thanks Frank. I am relieved to know that I am not the only woodworker that hates those band clamp things. Never ever could get those frustration makers to work correctly and thought it was just me. Look forward to trying the spring clamps.

Yup, those little spring clamps are amazing. I’ve used them for years. I like your saw kerf trick. Hadn’t thought of that. Very clever!

I've seen you use those little clamps in a few of your videos and I thought they were pretty cool and looked like they were easy to use. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on them.

I have heard that you can take dents out of wood with water and a hot iron. I wonder if you can iron out the dimples??

i was waiting for the "clink my affiliate link below to purchase" like most youtubers now who basically just film commercials for stuff they want to push. It did not come and i am not disappointed. Thank you for simply bringing a new trick to the audience and not just being a salesman.

Excellent video, Frank! Thanks for the tip! 😃 Just do not mess with Australians... Have you ever seen their bugs??? If you say "Hello there" around there they jump at you with lightsabers in their... hands... Whatever. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Bonjour Sauriez-vous comment cela s’appelle en français ? J’aimerais bien essayer et une traduction littérale (« pince à ressort ») ne renvoie rien d’interessant

I think my dislike for mitres stems from strap clamps. I made a threaded rod 4-way clamp like the Veritas thing which works better as I can tighten each corner, but it's not smooth or quick. I may invest in a spring clamp set up now.

I just don't like the holes they put in my work piece. Not an issue with a project that will be painted. Just fill the holes, sand and paint. But on a fine piece of stained and polished furniture, those holes will bug me forever.
@PMichaels
@PMichaels 11 ай бұрын
Well said… I came here to make the same point. The function is good but the result isn’t. If it isn’t going to be painted, there’s no way to fix those and even if it is painted, it’s going to be a PITA to deal with.
@FranksWorkbench
@FranksWorkbench 11 ай бұрын
You could spline it like I demonstrate to eliminate it, otherwise filling the hole with hide glue and fine sawdust works a lot better with an oil or clear finish than pva glue+sawdust

@@FranksWorkbench This absolutely has a placebo I have never been able to cover up the holes on a stained part. Filling the holes helps but it doesn't solve the problem. Works great on a painted project.
