Hey Kirk, love your videos! Wish you were in my area so I could have you out! I have a home built in 1920 with stucco + wire directly on top of red woods. There is no roof overhang. Surprisngly water intrusion doesn't seem to be a big issue. I think this is because the interior walls are plaster and there is no insulation, so the walls breathe well. Now I want to move a window/door for a remodel, and I have all of the walls open. I would like to insulate and put up drywall on the inside, but I'm worried about the areas that don't have any water proofing intruding on a more modern building technique. Should I just stick to the 1920s building techniques? e.g. don't put in insulation and put plaster back up? Or should I try to waterproof the whole house somehow? Or maybe it's not worth moving the window at all and live with a subpar layout plan... EDIT: Just wanted to add that stucco is in very good shape for 100 years old w/ no waterproof membrane. I can tell there's no membrane because I can see through some of the ship lap red wood where it was miscut.
@StuccoPlastering7 ай бұрын
The stucco netting was placed of some type of tar paper or your home would have deteriorated by now. If you can't find any paper, unfortunately, the process is accelerating. No doubt you just didn't know there was paper under the stucco netting.

Your videos work well for me, they are informative, well put together, and your personality rounds them out. I have a question, I want to stucco an a small block wall with one coat/layer, in one of your videos you state one layer (1/2in) over block works well to hide the mortar lines of the block. the question is-- Can I add color to that layer to avoid painting or a second color layer? TYAT.

Captain Kirk! Thank you as always. I've got old cement front steps with cracks and peeling paint (it's basically a sponge, and it constantly emits moisture.) Hopefully a color coat will be better than paint. I'll use a bonding agent, and hopefully the moisture won't knock it off. What do you think?

Cover it with an acrylic stucco, that will last longer than painting.

Kirk could you do a short on how to wash a stucco house before painting? Also can you recommend type of paint to use? @StuccoPlastering6 ай бұрын
They are called A-frames and even on the California trades tests to get our C -35stucco contractors test. Example, if you use a 6 foot A-Frame, how wide should it open? The answer is 3 feet half the height. 4 footers open 2 feet. And now no more eight footers are sold but I still have two from 40 years ago which open 4 feet, they are heavy and cumbersome, little wonder they outlawed them.

Color coat means colored stucco? No need for a paint primer? I'm re-painting my stucco house. (My home has a bumpy stucco finish) I'm just starting by powerwashing first and I would like to stucco my home smooth but I thought I had to prime then paint after I stucco. Can I save some steps and use weld-crete over the existing bumpy stucco, then add skim coat of colored stucco and that's it? How long should I wait to stucco after using diluted Weld-Crete?
