Back in the day at rallies, you'd pull up , grab a cold can out of your gear , drink it and use that as a foot for your sidestand . All before dismounting...

I was going through things in my garage and found a timing gear from a small block chevy..the cam timing gear ..I've been thinking of using it for just this purpose ..but where to store it ..
@oknevals2 жыл бұрын
Or, you can spend 5 bucks to buy plastic plate that fits in your pocket and is intended for that purpose. It is expensive for what it is but handy. String is important not just for picking up but for dropping too. Having such a small piece with exact fit is not practical unless permanently attached to sidestand. Also, it can be bought cheaper than manufacturing oneself, unless one already has tools and skills.
@tpelle2 Жыл бұрын
It may not as "elegant"s scratch-made, but you can go to most any hardware or building supply store and buy an electrical box cover, usually 4" square, round, or octagonal, for practically nothing......and it also comes with holes already drilled for the cord.

I like these things. Very useful. I would recommend the plastic version or the one out of wood. The combination of steel and aluminum is not good. If you put aluminum on steel the aluminum will corrode and dissolve over time under environmental influence due to its chemical properties. Better use stainless steel instead of normal steel.

I won't use it all of the time and my foot is too close to the stand at the moment so I can't really have it permanently mounted but you can do that, just be mindful of spring weight. You don't want the stand falling down when you go over a big bump due to the extra weight you stick to the end of it.

Naa, its something else that you have to store/ride with, what i tend to do is simply cut off the existing bottom plate and make a new larger one and with the bike on the sidestand and the plate in the correct orientation i just weld the new plate on and paint it, nothing to fiddle with, its now part of the sidestand ,job done .
