I have walked up Snowdon many times but never walked the Miner's Path; after watching your video I will do it next time. Also, your excitement and enthusiasm for this landscape is infectious and will surely inspire many people to attempt this trek. Thanks for a great video!

Mate, we have a very similar outlook on life. Trying new experiences and getting out and about to do and see as much as I can on the smallest of budgets. I've been climbing a few mountains over last couple of years with my dog (Merlin the Cockapoo🧙‍♂️ 💩). We did Snowdon twice, the first time intending to go up the Pyg and down the Miner's and it was absolutely fantastic. We spent hours up there, then the weather drew in so we had to walk down the Llanberis Path, then all the way back up to the Pen Y Pas Car Park! Undeterred and determined to do what we intended, we went back the following week and did it all again, up the Pyg and this time, down the Miner's (Yay!), so we achieved our goal! We've done Cadair Idris and our local hills in Shropshire, now planning our next adventure up Ben Nevis, hopefully in a few weeks (Aug 22). Having got lost up Cadair Idris in the thickest fog ever (bearly see 10 feet) nobody else around and no mobile signal, then having to resort to map and compass (I'm not kidding, thank goodness for being in the Cubs!), the one thing I vowed to get was a GPS. Got one now and it literally keeps me within a couple of feet of the planned path. Would highly, highly recommend. Thanks for you videos - new Subsciber.

Legend Such a wonderful watch I thoroughly enjoyed the video I climbed Mount Snowdon a few days ago which happened to be August Bank Holiday but thankfully we set off very early in the morning. We took the South Ridge up and the Watkin Path down, I highly recommend that to you if you're planning on going up for a 3rd time you are definitely capable of those routes if you're feeling it. Thanks for the video and well done it was awesome, stay safe in your adventures my friend

Them paths are killers and you can hardly move the next day but the views and the feeling of satisfaction you get after you've done it is well worth it. Yes definitely always let somebody know when your going up there and always go prepared for all weather's because the weather can change in a heartbeat whilst your up there. Well done you. When you do the cafe at the top one they used to give certificates, I don't know if they do now x awesome snowdonia is but can also be very unrelenting, always loved it. Those streams gush very rapidly and powerfully when it's been raining or the snow is melting. X brilliant video Richard x

I climbed Snowdon this past Wednesday - took the Miners path up and Pyg down. I got lucky for two reasons - the weather held up which meant it was very clear at the top and secondly when I actually reached the summit there was literally nobody else on it with me, not even on the steps waiting to reach it - so it was pretty cool just to have a moment on the summit alone to take it all in. This was at around 11.20am but after I got down a ton of people arrived, not as much as in this video but still quite a few.

I reckon the PYG track is a nicer way up as it breaks the climb up whereas miners is pretty much flat to the summit. If you take the PYG up, there is an option to take Crib Goch, usually much quieter than PYG and Miners but it is a grade 1 scramble that is quite exposed with an early point of no return. Bouldering skills would be recommended. PYG is much easier than Crib Goch which requires dry weather and little to no wind. There's no safe way off other than completing the trail but the view from the knife edge is astonishing and the sense of achievement when you reach the summit of Crib Y Ddysgl is something else!! If you get to Snowdon with plenty in reserve, following the Watkins path along the ridge then continue straight to Y Lliwedd where Watkins drops into the valley. Y Lliweth then comes down "the deadly path" which, in the dry, is a quite manageable descent with a short rock slab section that requires extra care. Or just use Miners to get down as an easier way. Things to bare in mind. Snowdon is the half way point. Going down is as much hard work as coming up. Picking up litter (especially when it's not yours) is very much appreciated. The mountains will outlive you so there's always an opportunity to come back another day

29:04 You didn't really mean it when you said 4x 2 litres of water did you? For Snowdon, I'd definitely say you need a minimum of 2 litres, probably 3, but 8 litres is a massive weight and you wouldn't drink that much unless camping too. The Sawyer water filters you mentioned are superb - one of those and possibly purification tablets also to be on the safe side are a good idea. Weigh next to nothing and you can replenish your hydration mid walk (just be aware the tablets need a minimum of an hour to kill the bacteria in wild water). Great video anyway and glad you enjoyed the 2 paths :)

The deadly route is Y Lliwedd, it's actually not too bad, it's a much easier version of Crib Goch with a tiny amount of very easy scrambling, on busy days I just stick to the quieter mountains which there are plenty of. I'm also a wild camper and live in Conwy, the Carneddau is my favourite area for wild camping as there's so much high ground, you're spoilt for choice really, loads of well off the beaten track secluded little spots to choose from, water filters are great and save carrying loads of water, I have a Sawyer one which has an adaptor so I can refill my hydration bladder while it's still in my pack by pouring the water down the tube, it's a very handy system.

Great Vlog. I walked from Llanberis to Summit twice in 1980s, and twice on Mountain Train, then 2/3 way on this vid, yes it gets daunting from 11 mins on vid. Also walked about 1/3 way this way and Llanberis way so 3.3 tomes in total. And 2/3 up twice again on Train some points are Very Scary to look down, what we used to call the Willys. 60 now think i could Only do it now if had ALL day in Llanberis or Pen y pass

By far the easiest route up the mountain, is the Rangers path, from near Bettws Garmon, on the Rhyd ddu side of the mountain. It starts just adjacent to the Snowdon Rangers Youth Hostel, and is all on a very good surface, a little bit loose in places, but within reason, you could walk it with your hands in your pocket. No sheer drops, terribly loose scree or rocks that can give way under your feet, like on the Miners and PYG track, just a very easy to navigate path. Its also the oldest path up the mountain. Its only real drawback, is that its very very exposed throughout its entire length, your at the mercy of the weather if its poor, otherwise, its the safest route up the mountain.

The one below who said that the summit is just half the climb was absolutely right. I was there yesterday. Due to parking and not wanting to lose time on buses I took the Llanberis path up in one go (1h40min like easy rambling) then Pyg track down (2hrs though I jogged the first bit down to the Miner's track fork). I use hiking poles btw. 52 YO. Also to put things in perspective, if you're used to the alps then this landscape is hardly breathtaking/spectacular.

Watch Paul Messners channel for every bit of advice you need for wild camping. Enjoying your video and i'll subscribe. At 70 and 72, we've done the Llanberis path and set off 3 days later on the miner's track at the end of July but, the weather turned nasty when we reached the heart shaped lake. Altho we had 4 layers on, it wasn't enough to go further because we felt cold, even tho we had a deluge jacket on top of the other 3 layers so we had a buttie, a drink and turned back but, it's a pretty tough hike even to there!

So a word on pronunciation. Y (‘the’ in Welsh) is pronounced ‘uh’. LL in Llanberis is a bit more tricky but ‘Chl’ with some added spit is pretty close. And the ‘scary’ mountain is Y Lliwedd. The ‘dd’ is a single letter pronounced ‘th’ so ‘Uh Chluweth’. It means the ‘colourless peak’

In winter and spring i could walk up and meet no one -- on a busy day perhaps handful of people at the top who had walked up the main path. Watkins is really nice and challenging. Starts at sea level and accends the full 1085m. Passes amazing waterfalls . A nice ridge that isn't exposed with a steep scree like incline near the summit. Nicest path that is tough

How long will it be before there is a bus service to the top... too touristy, too much undesirable humanity, too many people climbing not properly equipped... close Snowdon to save it!

@@iNDI_VAN_A_JONES So arrogant buggers like me can have it to ourselves, to save it from destruction, save it for the natural look to come back instead of all that worn and polished rock and save if from all that undesirable humanity. Last time I was up there, the old café was there (the highest slum in the UK as Prince Charles described it once), all the times I went up there, I never went in it as the track was always blocked with snow so the train could not get up there for the staff to open it. Dad said "I have not missed much". Dad and I camped by Llyn Llydaw (the Middle lake (I was 12)) Easter 1976, the track was blocked that year too with snow even though 76 was a drought year.

@@richardlawrencesmith I can go one further. Close snowdonia to non lock. Full stop. Bit extreme and I'm joking but making reference to your absurd comment.

Old at 34 ?? I don't think so ! I am 65 and did this walk two weeks ago with relative ease, plan to do the Y Gribin ridge next time. A couple of tips : For the feet wear girls (yes, girls) nylon ankle high stockings and then walking socks on top. The nylon will take all the friction from the sock. Some advise vaseline also on the skin pressure points but I have not tried this - for me the nylon does the trick. Secondly ALWAYS have a pocket size sunscreen bottle in your backpack - I use factor 50+ since I am in the sun (if lucky) all day and still I get tanned. Well done otherwise !
