In this video, we’re going to talk about when NOT to take bile salts.
Most people need bile salts. Usually, they’re not producing enough.
What are bile salts?
Bile salts are made by the liver and are stored in the gallbladder. When the gallbladder stores the bile salts, it concentrates them. Bile is a super-concentrated mixture to help break down fats so you can extract fat-soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids from your food.
We make about a quart of bile every day, and 90% of the bile is recycled. There are many benefits of bile. It is also necessary to help a person detoxify chemicals. You can take purified bile salts to help digest fats and prevent gallstones.
When not to take bile salts:
1. If you have diarrhea
2. If you have a hyperthyroid condition
3. If you have bile malabsorption
What to do if you’re body is making too much bile, or you have too much bile:
• Lower the amount of fats in your diet to about 60g per day (not any lower)

I think the key is timing. If you take bile with food you may be increasing alkalinity in your stomach. Bile salts need to be taken in between meals, and hcl and enzymes alongside meals.

Through research, I found out that I have BAM (Bile acid malabsorption) so taking Ox Bile acid would make my condition worse! I am actually currently taking Cholesteramine to bind these acid together to reduce the diarrhea BUT I now know that binding this Bile Acid by using Cholesteramine, I am losing most of not all of the vitamins A, B, K among others and taking them orally is not an option! Thank you for clearing this up! I have severe bile acid malabsorption and have had frequent and severe diarrhea since having my gall bladder removed 16 years ago BUT I have actually also had several bouts of severe constipation that have clogged me up completely with severe diarrhea behind the clog and it is horrible. I get so sick and actually vomit bile! It is extremely painful and I get dizzy, severely nauseated, severe cold sweats and I have to lie down on the bathroom floor or I will faint! I got a rubber ball with a plastic tip that I expel warm water into my rectum to break up these clogs. I’m also taking Cholesteramine for the diarrhea but have to be very careful not to take too much bc it can trigger constipation and that is THE WORST I HAVE EVER FELT IN MY LIFE! If anyone else has these issues I mentioned, please reply to my post and let me know what you have done or what your doctor said bc I can’t seem to get any reasoning for this from my doctors!!!! Thanks!

So sorry you are suffering so much. Maybe you have a parasite infection that is contributing to the diarrhea. Try getting off the cholestyramine and treat yourself for parasites for a few months. If you get constipation anytime, take Vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid), which has a laxative effect and helps your immune system.

I am a hypothyroid person. I have gallstones and I am taking bile salts to detoxify and hopefully dissolve gallstones I’ve noticed neck pains in the front and I’m wondering if my thyroid is acting up. What should I do. I recently got your gallbladder formula which has bile salts in it. I am trying to avoid surgery for the gall bladder as I am not experiencing any intolerable pain. Thanks. I’ve been taking the bile salts supplements with each meal

I had my gallbladder removed 30 years ago. I didn't have a doctor that gave me any instructions on any diet. I have low blood pressure. I am talking 108/60. So back in my early twenties it was 97/60. I am now 63. So my doctor told me that I didn't have to worry about my salt intake. My husband has CKD so we do the low salt intake. I also can't have a lot of potassium due to my low bp. I find myself suffering from low electrolytes. So I do take an electrolyte drink at least once a week and feel better. My question is should I try and drink more than once a week The electrolytes? Thank you.

Dr. Berg, thanks for making this video, it helps me to identify some of my problems. I have a fatty liver, but not overweight, strange enough, I have low Triglycerides. That's why I think I probably need bile salt. But I am reluctant to take it because I had hyperthyroid 2 years ago. ( Now I am normal). It seems conflict. What's your suggestion? thanks.

Hi Dr. Berg. I started IF + Keto on Nov 1st this year and did a blood test on Dec 11th. I always had a high triglyceride. Now, my triglyceride is shown within the range! I'm super happy about this result and appreciate all I learnt from you. The only question I have is, in this result, I see my LDL is slightly above the range, which I never had before. Can you please tell me how I lower that as well? Much appreciate it.

Take Niacin. That will increase your HDL and lower you LDL. HDL is more important than LDL. I don't exercise and my HDL was always in the deficient range of around 38 mg/dL. Normal range is 40 to 60 mg/dL. After taking 200mg daily for a few months, my HDL is now at 58 mg/dL. Also, avoiding or limiting grains and all types of sugar will lower your LDL and Triglycerides. The liver regulates cholesterol. Alcohol, drugs and sugar inhibit the liver's function. Optimize your liver and the cholesterol takes care of itself. That is unless you have a genetic mutation that causes you to have abnormal cholesterol levels.

You don’t have to lower your LDL! It’s not bad for you but beneficial for you, yet the industry has been shaped by pharmaceutical companies to fear LDL. Watch Dr Nadir Ali on KZbin about why LDL rises on Keto and why it’s not bad.

@@thetolliosfamily4627 I read a book in a pharmacy years ago about cholesterol. It mentioned Cholesterol is good for you and bad if it's low. Babies are born with very high cholesterol except those that are born with mental problems. Cholesterol helps the brain function properly. Low cholesterol damages the brain. So said the book author.

This video is not really very clear. If someone has a problem with SIBO and then takes bile salts, what happens? Is it only a T3 problem then? I’m treating for SIBO right now and began taking your gall bladder formula based on your recommendations and the fact that no where on the bottle does it say this is not advisable. My doctor sure as hell doesn’t know this, either. I have developed no diarrhea or symptoms of too much bile. But since it’s not clear from this whether the too much bile problem is related to SIBO and extra bile salts, please explain better in a new video. I’d like to understand why having SIBO and taking bile salts from a supplement is not a good idea.
