It is smart, creative, modern, yet unlike some projects shown on this channel, it feels cosy and practical for everyday life: Lots of storage, plants, pictures on the wall,... you can see it is not just an architectural piece of art but a place where people live. Love how the study can expand the living room, how the kitchen is open yet separated and does not allow guests to see the mess when you're cooking. The green metal box reminds me a lot of a ship container. This would be a great fit here in the harbour city of Hamburg!

The bathroom door is perforated too, which means ALL the bathroom smells get to float around the apartment, the good smells and the bad smells. Also the bathtub, while seamless and aesthetic, will be a hassle to clean and maintain. A stainless steel bathtub would have been easier to keep clean and hygenic, or a custom bathtub that's one piece of ceramic - all the grout is unpleasant to clean.
@Onyx-Rose150Ай бұрын
The smell isn't a problem because the toilet is in a room in the bathroom. The tub is a problem more on the relaxing front then the cleaning front. Some people have a higher compacity for cleaning. Of course I'm assuming since they designed it they know their own capacity.

I found myself wondering how a three bedroom, one bathroom apartment became a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. It went from a family dwelling to a couples dwelling. I just felt that the space was not being used as efficiently as before.
@Terri_MacKay2 ай бұрын
@mezbrookscarter8289 That was first thought when they showed the new layout. The kitchen is claustrophobically narrow, one small area holds the living room (a sofa and a TV) and the dining table, and the work area and bedroom are small and narrow. Where did all the space go?? I feel like they were fixated on the idea of that green cube, and the only way it would work was if they gutted the apartment and stuck it in the middle. But it leaves so little room around it, and it's way too big (imo), considering what it's used for. I've seen other homes that are built around a central cube similar to this, but it only works in much bigger spaces. I thought maybe I was wrong because so many people love this one, but I'm not a fan.

Beautiful apartment! But I have to wonder if this is indeed sustainability when wooden floors are replaced with microcement and an apartment for family of four is made to fit only two people in intimate relationship (the toilet noises!). Is this really small living, flexible living (could anyone with different lifestyle move to this apartment without renovating?) or sustainable when we take out everything old and replace it with the trendiest new things?
@Hasna2562 ай бұрын
Exactly! I understand in the plan before the bedrooms were probably too small, but ripping out wooden floors just because they are 'dated' while the quality is still fine, is not sustainable at all! Love the materials and the color scheme, and indeed I think the metal green box gives to the flat a unique personality. When it comes to functionality I think one between the kitchen and the bedroom should have had a sliding door system similar to the solution found for the study. The possibility to close the bedroom with an hidden door would have added privacy and functionality to the space.

So he removed all the original features (parquet! Beautiful MCM furniture that they had to show in black and white to make it look ugly and "dated" when MCM is one of the most popular styles these days) and replaced with generic "2020 minimalist" microcement and white + pastels. It looks like he saw that metalcore somewhere and got fixated on the idea. The layout is not practical - why didn't they move the kitchen to the corner next to bathroom where they put the study? The microcement and tile "bathtub" was designed by someone who never takes baths. The wavy metal in a pastel colour will look very dated in a few years. It's also not very practical as it allows dust inside the wardrobes and cabinets.
