Our hardcover book + digital living room guide bundle is now available worldwide here www.nts-store.... ✨ Expert tips, detailed floorplans, and gorgeous pics - this bundle has everything you need to get inspired. 😉
Featuring the striking use of Cumaru (Brazilian teak) Veneer throughout, DB Apartment is a light-filled, flexible space that transforms depending on its owner’s needs. By cleverly removing the original terrace doors, architects Studio Papaya created a versatile indoor-outdoor space that overlooks the city. This multi-purpose space serves as an extension of the open-plan kitchen and dining area, where a circular wooden shelf built into the ceiling is the centrepiece. A set of bi-fold wood panels that intersect with a sliding door serve to section off the new living room that doubles as a second bedroom for guests. This leads to the main bedroom where a custom platform bed provides ample additional storage, while an L-shaped wardrobe cleverly combines mirrors and wood veneer to enhance the space.

Fantastic apartment. The fact that the balcony was integrated into the rest of the apartment is a big plus to me. Also the living room/ guest bedroom is another innovative idea. I could quite easily live in an apartment like this. ❤

I don't really comment much in this channel, but this is probably the best transformation I've seen. Please feature more of these rooms with a color palette that makes the space liveable and look lived in, unlike others that look like showrooms or simply for display. Everything here is so functional.

Almost 60m^2, space for two fullsized tables and two bathrooms? Definitely NOT small, but beautifully executed and decorated. Calm colours, wood accents, different shapes and surface qualities - overall very balanced and homey despite lots of plain surfaces.

People write this doesn’t qualify as a small space. The joy of this series is less about the footprint per se, and more about clever design solutions to spaces that are small *relative* to the requirements of the client. Making an infrequently used but necessary second bedroom elegantly fit into a 600ft flat? This qualifies.

What a stunning transformation! I love the use of mid-tone wood and was struck by the cleverness of that oval wrap-around ceiling shelf as well as the foldable panels and foldable window panes to transform the apartment as needed, particularly for guests, or to open it up to maximize the space to give it an airy feeling. Bravo! :)

There’s many ideas to take from this gorgeous apartment. When we moved into our home over 20 years ago, I we removed walls and replaced them with sliding/folding floor to ceiling panels. I remember many friends not liking what I did, but we stayed true to the vision, now we have a multifunctional home that we have grown with rather than needing to move. Think carefully, property is expensive, but with careful planning it could be a worthwhile investment as rooms can change to your needs!

Using the terrace to maximize usable space is a clever idea. But I am worried about the thermal performance. Putting the condenser unit in a cabinet with perforated doors inside of the apartment makes the space around it so much hotter. The holes in the doors also make it easier for cool air inside to move outside and hot air to move inside the apartment during warmer months.
@Olli4
@Olli4 Жыл бұрын
Not just that, it basically defeats the whole purpose of having the aircon. It's moving heat from the one unit to the other using energy. That means energy is being added to the total (compressor in outdoor unit gets hot for example). And it's called an "outdoor unit" for a reason of course. Let alone the thermal performance of the glass on the balcony which looks to be single pane and has no seals. Beautiful conversion, but these technical mishaps are not really acceptable. Maybe the climate there makes it less of an issue but still. In most places (at least here in Belgium) you would not be allowed to take out the separation between living space & terrace either. Building code requires developers to include some form of "outdoor" space with each unit... including it in the living space makes that nonsensical.

Maybe someone has already mention this, but it is important to provide some context. In São Paulo (and other Brazilian capitals), the newer apartments, such as the one showed in this video, are usually constructed/marketed as 2 bedroom or 3 bedrooms but in the reality new owners come in and do 2 changes: take one bedroom out - making it a 1 bedroom larger open concept apartment or a 2 bedroom larger open concept apartment. In both cases incorporating the varanda into the apartment, taking walls out and closing it with the sliding windows. Regardless, I think it was a very clever move from both architects for allowing the "2nd bedroom" to be flexible. Another thing i noticed, is the amount of bathrooms - you would not see - normally - 2 bathrooms in such an apartment this size in Europe for example. I love how our layouts are open to more than 1 bathroom. Last i would love to see more content from Latin America and how approaches to this newer buildings can be different. Especially if the client does not want an open concept. Thanks and great work DELIA and SAMUEL.

You’re right, 1 bathroom is more typical on Europe, I agree that this multipurpose room works wonderful but I don’t see the point of having a very large kitchen with two dining tables, specially compared to the size of the living room/tv room. Normally these types of interiors are fairly minimalist and do not feel so warm, cosy and luxurious. I love the warmth of this house. I would have thought the oval ceiling unit above the dining room table would make the room feel smaller, but it adds so much to the space. Really lovely design. I also love the wooden folding wall. . . . looks amazing as a backdrop for the dining room. That terrace space looks amazing for yoga! I would perhaps have made the bar table foldable for more space. Overall, really amazing design!

Great idea about the overhead shelving, our cats would love climbing up and running around on it :)

Beautiful and smart, I liked how they hid the AC, made ventilation for the fridge in a very sleek way~~
