Great vidio, Everthing old is new again. When I had my very first series of lessons 55 years ago Billy Kay-Smith told me NOT to concentrate on the ball but to focus on a spot 2 inches in front of the ball that way you will hit down at impact.

Good video Andy. There are SO many golf tips out there that one becomes somewhat overwhelmed with the information. It's odd, but seeing you try these things out (in this case successfully) somehow reassures me that it would help my game and imprints it more firmly in memory so that I'll actually practice it at the range. Thanks!

Really enjoying this series. The tip works, I got to the same position in a slightly different way. With both irons and fairway woods I focus on a spot which is about 2" ahead of the ball rather than focusing on the ball.

Very nice, well explained. I began doing this a few weeks ago when I got a new 3w and love it! I'm not clear on whether or not to take a (small) divot in front of the ball.

Great vid! Although almost the same concept (or at least the end state goal) as the avoid the coin drill, that one did not work for me. However this concept did, with both my woods and irons. Amazing how the way our bodies perceive the execution of a swing vary!

I have been trying this with just my irons. Its so weird feeling...I have the same sensations as you...moving the body ahead of the ball. The only way I feel I can do this is to on the down swing I "feel" as is I have to shift my body out in front of the ball. Feels VERY strange. Thanks...love these videos!

i have worked hard to move my low point forward, particularly with my irons and have found it really awkward. It disrupts my swing to a tremendous degree. I get a lower launch, but it doesn't improve either strike or distance and it causes a big loss in descent angle for me. I don't have Track man to measure low point or attack angle so I'm not sure I'm getting this right, but I have settled on a more moderate attack angle and launch to preserve distance and landing angle.

Definitely a common 'weakness' Andy. Probably explains the current trend away from low-lofted fairway woods like 3 woods into 5 and 7 woods and even 2 hybrids. I'll give my 3 wood one last chance trying this tip before finds itself on eBay :)

This is THE flaw in my game. It’s amazing that the same negative part of your game plagues you every time out. It really gets in your head. Matt Fryer is a terrific teacher, by the way. So, it’s certainly not Matt’s lessons, it’s my failure to apply those lessons on the course. More work to do!
