By the time you hear it, the rollers are damaged. Yes, you can repack with new grease, but the lifespan is greatly reduced. A cheap best solution is that the bearing can be pressed out and replaced at a fraction of the price of the whole assembly.

I was wondering why nobody had a video on repacking the bearings… I replaced the alternator on my 96 Ranger and it squeals horrendously for like 2 seconds when I start it up. I believe when I replaced the head gaskets it had a really bad idler pulley and I just forgot about it… The belt seems to be running true so idk… Maybe I’ll start with that bad pulley and go from there…

@BREW2LFOXBODY3 жыл бұрын
No, this just refers to a free spinning pulley 👍
@imnota3 жыл бұрын
The noise you have most likely is internal to your smog pump, the pulley doesn't have a bearing. Now if you manage to dissasemble your pump, there probably is bearings in there where you could apply this fix, but I don't know how doable this is.

Don't over pack them, you may have a little too much grease in the not gonna lie. Fill them to about 25% capacity because there needs to be space in there for the balls to move around instead of having to plough through the grease. If you over pack them they'll overheat over time
@imnota3 жыл бұрын
I hope it'll last but I feel like that bearing is probably in the end of it's life anyways. IMO once it ran dry once, it's going downhill from there, it made a bunch of metal shaving, some remain even after repacking and those shavings will make it eat itself alive.
@TekMan05 Жыл бұрын
This is still a good practice imo as a preventative maintenance item for new pullies or ones that are good still.
