Damn, thanks, yea I always mistake that thing for an augment lol :P. Still I think on of the best companions to invest in. Lol checking the AH now and energons are up to 27k now... That was quick! Do note you can do this with any epic companion - just take the cheapest one.. the only thing with the energon is the extra HP you get which is great.

It's an easy mistake to make. Energon's usefulness in combat is barely more than an augment after all.

@@F8isRIPPIN In that case I would go for the energon. A companion has a decent chunk of base stats apart from the companion gear stats - an epic companion will give you a lot more power (which isnt on comp gear, but is on comp base stats)

For really new players(like me) please note that the really awesome HP boost from the Energon you need to be level 60 or above, and to slot the second and third gear/bonding runestone you need to have a companion(any companion) at levels 15/25 respectively. Great guide, thanks for helping us latecomers out!

Hi Jason, you're right! For a lot of classes the utility slot will only become available at a higher level. Some classes get access to a utilily slot earlier though (I think e.g. Clerics)

"Level 60" isn't an option when I can't get above 48 because I can't get new missions on the Skyhold because I can't defeat the boss in the Hollow. I also could finish the last half of all the wolves and couldn't defeat the boss in the Sanitarium.

I have viewed several videos that are supposed to be for beginners or players new to Neverwinter, and they ALL were useless to me. Some even assumed your character was level 70!! Meanwhile, my problems began in the Sanitarium, where I couldn't defeat the boss, and nobody I contacted on Reddit was of any help. They didn't have any idea why I wasn't able to complete such an "easy" dungeon! This video here has been the best explanation for what to do and why. I will give it a try with the character I have, but I might need to start all over with a new character. Cheers!

@@RainerNW It didn't. I still died in the Boss Fight at Scalefather Hollow. I just turned the game completely off. I have a few options now: 1. Write down every stat and score on my Character Sheet and (my hat in my hand) ask you to review it and give me any pointers you can. 2. Throw that character away and start a new one from scratch. (I'll have to sell all this character's stuff, because I have used all my slots (I have more than 20 characters now, and do NOT want to buy any more slots. In fact, I don't want to spend one more dime on the game, because of the next option: 3. Sell EVERYTHING in the Auction House and then give my two guilds away and delete the game. They began ruining the game when they quit letting us craft AD. Then they re-worked the combat so that tough areas (Dread Ring, Sharandar) became IMPOSSIBLE to survive. Even a skeleton in the Dread Ring was killing my level 70 characters in three strikes. So I stopped going there. I would start a new character, get to a certain point, and then stop playing that character and start a new one. Now, with their latest round of "fixes", I can't even get past Helm's Hold's Sanitarium. I'm this close to done.

Oh wow, you are seriously undercapped.. that's gear for in a museum :-) What you can do to fix this is the following: Go to the moonstone mask. When entering go right and right again, there you can enter a door. In that room you will start your journey to the Yawning Portal and when you accepted the quest you will get new starter gear which will make you feel 100x stronger.

Make sure to equip everything you get! If you have refining stones in your bags, make sure to turn them into refinement points. You don't need to carry around stones anymore which will give you lots of room in your bags!

You just did a service to the community. Ugh, maybe it was a good thing when soloing was challenging and getting help in the zone made things possible. But with many zones being empty, soloing is nearly mandatory.

Barbed Ring of the Companion, Cracked Necklace of the Companion are IL 965 companion equipment with Armor Penetration, and that should give a good portion of ArPen and help with getting through the Undermountain campaign into Master Expeditions later.

Nice video, very needed for newer players, good job on that :). Would like to add that most of the classes except clerics do not get their utility slot unlocked till level 60, so you won't get those extra 24k hit points till then from Energon. And yeah, like Aragon said Energon is not an augment companion, unfortunately. I believe that cheapest epic augument companions at the moment are Watler, Cat and Black Ice Ioun stone, all of them around 130k in the auction house at the moment. But even rare one should give you more stats than an epic non-augment companion. For that Watler and Cat are still your best bet (~30k and ~50k respectively in the auction house at the moment). Not sure how green one would compare.

Thing is the max rank on green/blue companions... It does make quite some difference - but an augment does indeed make up for some of that difference.

I didn't have a problem leveling up with the beginning shield companion, then I got the Wolf an I love him. I got lvl 61 in 5 days, playing about 5 hours a day, not being serious and I gotta say after coming back to Neverwinter after a couple years it's gotten a lot better.

Over time classes will rise and drop in power/playability. At this moment I think a lot of classes are in a decent spot in general, so I can understand why you like the current state :-)

Cryptic did a really bad job explaining how companions work after they made the changes. A lot of new players want to quit as use they can’t survive. I save all my unbound companions and all the wererat companions I get and give em away in the like gn zones to struggling players. Makes me feel like Santa. Lol

As a fairly new player myself i wanted to add that you get this 'starter gear' from a quest from Neverember. And you can just pick up the gear and quit the quest until later (which is what i did). Now i'm first doing a lot of other stuff to get lower quests out of the way and pick up some boons on the way to get stronger. Lots of those are either time gated or a lot of work. But for instance with this equipment you can do the Elemental campaign quickly which gives you 4 boons total.

Yes the level 70 quest to go to Neverember indeed gives great starter gear - I was using that in the video :-) It even has some enchantments!

Thanks for the guide I was able to get it one through some of the art of the deal. At level 20 and new player I was able to trade then auction enough gears to get 60 AD in a day.

No problem. You should be able to queue for leveling dungeons at this point, this should greatly increase your AD influx per day :-). Do 1 Random Leveling Dungeon per day, any following after that doesn't give much AD anymore.

If your looking for an inexpensive alternative to the bulette pup for you dps class, I recomend the star of simril. It will boost your power, crit avoidance and awareness, at legendary with maxed bondings it gives a 3000point boost to your power. And last I checked there super cheap.

@@zurgboy07 Its an inexpensive augment companion that will give strong buf's to your stats throughout it's and your progression. And the stats buffed are beneficial to dps class, so its worth putting resources into over time.

Perhabs the suggestion to go to undermountain as soon you reach lvl 70 to get the last 10 lvls and can run the MEs before running Chult, Cloacked Assendency or Barovia... The enemies in this zones still hurts with the gear you had shown.

@@RainerNW i dont like the fact you can reach level 70 and dive straight into Undermountain campaign. It should be pre requisite to move forward to next campaign. 1st Elemental Evil then Sharandar then Dread Ring, Ice Windale ect... I understand the concept of allowing players to catch up to us endgame players. But 99% of time i run content ill playbwith 24k 26k item level player who doesnt know how to play his class and will only have 1/2 of the campaign completed.

@@MrR3DUC3 yup that was me, was doing quest to level up/ some grinding then got a letter to visit Knox next thing I know I get cool gear and I'm in undermountain grinding to be able to kill mobs.... later I find out it's end game / latest mod I missed a whole section of campaigns

Bare in mind lower lvl players may not have a utility's slot at the begining so won't actually gain the hp at the start, I've found that buying a blue(rare) cat or goat for around 15k is more efficient for my new character as it will get you all the way through undermountain just fine with lvl 9 bondings, I play on PS4 so the prices may differ from platform

Even a green cat or goat will get you through undermountain which for PS4 is around 6k AD I still have green companions on my new toons and run MEs with no artifact set just fine

The main idea of buying a high quality companion was that you dont have to spend AD ranking it up (it is quite a big amount for newer players). Having said that, your proposals are also fine and yes utility is available a bit later. Just wanter to put some stress on the companions page, it's often overlooked :-)

While I do own augments, I prefer the companions. While the companions have been broken for the last year, I still use them playing PvE. Here is my short list of working companions for new players; * Zhentarim Warlock, I have her on most of my characters, she has one massive crit and she keeps the enemy busy with quick attacks. * Renegade Evoker is a better DPS than Makos at the same rank. But drops from Valindra's Tower at green so you will need to rank him up. He is cheap in the Auction House. * Skeleton is another cheap green that ranks up to be a heavy hitter. * Quickling is not cheap. This was a give away back afew years ago for charging Zen. I think you can still buy it for 900K to 1M AD in the AH but this guy is fast. Save up your AD and acquire him if you can. Now my rogue has Xuna - free from 5th Anniversary - this one might not fit everyone's budget. Roughly every 18 seconds she can do bloodbath and crits all targets. She is not bad, but she isn't worth the 2 million AD they have been asking. Don't fall for the hype on this companion. All of these companions I have mentioned above are invoker class, meaning if you buy them they bolster your active companion. They also do fast attacks (with the exception of the skeleton) open the catalog in game with Ctrl+J , compare the companions Cast Time + Cool Down, and go for the least amount of time.

If you can get a high quality companion cheaply it's actually fine as well.... I made a mistake actually and the energon IS a companion, not an augment. As you can see in the video I am still more than fine doing SKT....

Quick tip for new players. Find a guild. Use the xp boon. Buy a cheap augment companion. Use azure in utility slots. Have fun getting lvl 80 in 1 a 2 days

I hope someone notice my message but i recently just started playing the game because of this video and im happy i did but when i was able to do the random dungeon (im level 16 now) once i finished it there was no ad that we given or even rough ad but when i go back to the random dungeon selection it now shows only 500 but the first time i did it it was 6k plus but i didnt get anything is this just a bug or did i do something wrong?

Hi Mark, welcome to the game :-). Random dungeon queue bonuses are only once per day (second time it will be lowered a ton), so tomorrow your bonus will be 6k again! What do you mean you didnt get anything? The rough AD (RAD) should be in the currency tab, you need to refine it (100k max per day) to actually use the AD.

Go STR/DEX as a ranger, it's your safest bet at all levels.

Level 80 was the old maximum before m21. They lowered it to 20 to be more in line with d&d.

I bought the undermountain bundle on my ps4 pro. Been playing this game a week now. Have to say one major thing that ruins this game for me is all the powerful lvl80 players who destroy everything in dungeons making it boring for new players. Why are lvl80 players in the beginning tutorial dungeons??? Is there any way to block high power players from entering low lvl dungeons?

YOU FORGOT TO MENTION you need to have lev 60 to unlock the slot this goes into (bottom right) for the ENERGON hp bonus?? At least in current game now YOU FORGOT TO MENTION you need to have 1 companion rank 25 to unlock 3rd slot for equipment

Early and mid game were fine and easy to solo playing a tank. Making the jump from mid to end is a real pain. Having 23k in gear and able to do random epics is a huge help but seem to always get Lair of the mad mage which is tough. And when doing groups there is always some jerk that I guess thinks everyone has been playing Neverwinter for 6 years and should have all their gear already. It’s a huge pain because I can’t get the good gear because I don’t have the stats. And I can’t get the stats because I can’t make the AD because I can’t do random epics without someone crying. Is there a tutorial you have for this spot in the game because it’s really the most frustrating thing I’ve found yet. I can make my limit 100k rough AD easily getting my daily bonus runs sure but it’s dealing with the cry baby that seems to be about 1in 5 people in this game. I’ve managed some decent gear but have had to buy everything as far as augments and insignia because I don’t find stuff to upgrade. I’ve found about three rank 4 enchanting runestones and one rank 5 I got in a LoMM. To summarize, I either need material or ad which all seem to involve LoMM lvl content to be able to obtain in a decent amount and can’t really handle. Do master expeditions and so forth drop upgrade materials and my luck is just so bad I never got any? To run so many of those and never gotten anything and have done a couple LoMM and got more from those two than several dozen expeditions tells me something. Does the veteran community really expect people at my similar level to just stay away from LoMM and random epics and farm the crumbs of the easier content?

Yea the game has changed a bit - you don't need bondings anymore, and therefore this guide has become a bit invalidated. Companion stuff used to make a huge difference due to the multiplicative factor of bondings, but this is not the case anymore...

Companion gear does not hurt, to move more stats into the spots you want. It also will increase your base hp and base damage, so yes, still buy cheap companion gear if you can. Don't overspend though, the buff isnt as big as it was when i made the video

I am actually adding a calculator to the character builder that will answer this and related questions ;-) What to put stats in is a very build dependent question. Because power is uncapped - it is always good to put stats in there - but maybe capping something else first is better.

Check paladin tank dps builds. There are couple on youtube im pretty sure. The main issue for new players is build, not the gear.

Example of how bad new players build their character... They don't see KZbin, they don't have vip... In My guild there is 129 players.. No one have more than 1 character, they don't know this about companions... They use uncommon companion and struggle and many stop playing cause they don't ask of help cause they think its too complicated to fix their character... All in All the game need to be better to inform basic built

I wouldn't put this on the players - the game should provide bondings to every new player.. it's so essential... I know you get bondings during the recruitment event but not when the event is not running.... without bondings the game just got a lot harder >_>

Why would it make a difference they both give 1k power and capping everything is easy... the problem with rat pup is that it gives you a penalty on HP............. Yes the augment HP bonus scales NEGATIVELY with companion influence, so the rat pup will have less HP, and less defense/combatadv (not sure which one the rat pup doesn't have). So damage-wise they are the same.... HP-wise bulette pup is better. Hope that's enough :-)

In the companion page at the bottom, you have 6 rectangles where you can slot powers. The colors are purple, orange, blue and green. Click on a green rectangle (if it's unlocked) and select the energon companion power (+24000 HP) there. That is where you get the HP
