Episode 1198 concluded the 1971 present day storyline. Months before D.S. ended it's run Dan Curtis just couldn't muster up anymore ideas. The way the final 1971 storyline ended was the way I figure it is there are no Ghosts, Warlocks Witch's at Collinwood because history was changed. Collinwood was calm & peaceful according to Elizabeth. Barnabas never has to worry about ever becoming a Vampire again. Yes, we can conclude our own storylines on the 20th century family members. I still think they could've had an entire episode showing that all the family members were alive and well as a result of the History Change or had a final episode of 1971 after the 1841 Parallel Time episodes but we didn't 1/27/71 was the final 1971 episode. All we had on 1198 was a couple of minutes 14:52-17:35 before going back to 1840 R.T. then 1841 P.T. The final storyline.

Morgan is very strange in this episode. Not his usual self. He may no longer be possessed by James but the affects are there He shows signs of the same cruelty that possesses Melanie. It is an ugly sight.

He just found out his wife is carrying another guy's baby...that would be enough to upset any married man. Perhaps the aftereffects of the possession permanently altered Morgan's personality for the worse. Either that, or maybe Morgan was never all that stable to begin with, he just hid it all too well, at least until James' spirit took over his body.
