I remember this story line from the first viewing all those many years ago. It was confusing then too, but I still tuned in daily.

While Sharon Smyth & Kathy Cody were great co-stars to David Henesy (Sharon during the present day and 1795 [as well the Halloween 2020 Dark Shadows reunion on Zoom] and Kathy in 1995, the present day, and 1840), Denise Nickerson (the present day, 1897, and 1970 Parallel Time) will ALWAYS be my favorite. The chemistry between David and Denise was a sight to behold. While she, along with Sarah Collins and Hallie Stokes, was a great friend, Amy Jennings spawned a spark of romance between her and David Collins

Hallie seems so bewildered & confused about herself whilst she is with David at the gazebo. She doesn't know why she's wearing that old-fashioned orange dress. She claims that she smelled Lilac sent (it must be the spirit of Daphne). Hallie must be possessed by Daphne. David is still waiting at the gazebo. Probably Gerard or Daphne or both.

Sebastian Shaw is hilarious 😂. I was 11 when this came out so I can appreciate the hippie thing. It was real. It just hasn't aged totally gracefully ... 😂 And david is still as obnoxious as ever. The actor managed to make him somewhat sympathetic, but I'm still not a fan lol
