Ferrari uses cheap plastic body parts inside the car that dont fit with vw standards, so how is bentley ment to reduce the weight of their car without using plastic parts to reduce cost and weight to reduce fuel consumption or co2 emission

​@@piperbob2 No as the production is a lot higher as it will require higher tooling cost to produce a high polished metal part. Carbon fiber wont fit with the look the gt is going for. You can pay more for the production cost of course but you would have to increase the price of the car to balance that

@Naughty internet person Bentley pays the budget for itself not VW. Press cars are spec'd vehicles, no hand made parts will be made, they are exactly the same as any other car that a customer will buy.

Seems to me they're just not using a good plastics manufacturer. There are durable plastics out there with tremendous tensile strength and no flex. Looks like the just need a factory that can make a proper mold and maybe upgrade to a more durable plastic composite

I have one. The comprises and plastics are necessary to reduce weight and are there (like it or not) on most sporting GTs. The RR is not really a sporty GT.. IMO

The plastics on the front grille are - unfortunately - for pedestrian safety reasons. The rest is just cheapness

But metal grills are not illegal, it’s up to the manufacturers, Bentley could have easily made the grill aluminium but they never, the Audi A8 has and they’re also part of the VW group. You could easily fit a bull-bar on the front and still be legal, anyway if you hit something with a Bentley at speed they’re toast. Also there’s no reason the plastic above the sill should be plastic.

My wife just asked me what I was laughing at. I was just thinking what a lovely spec that car is, Verdant Green, Newmarket tan, Walnut. Pretty close to how I'd spec one of these. Then you proceeded to rip the piss out of it. I'm traumatised and taking stock of my personal tastes whilst weeping into the lapel of my hacking jacket. That aside, I love Bentley's, I love the interiors. I just couldn't stomach the depreciation. Now I'd really like you to find a 2008-11 Bentley Brooklands Coupe to drive. It's absurdly Bentley, it's like driving Westminster Abbey and makes the Conti look like some young whipper-snapper upstart.

Nothing wrong with the tan & racing green specs for anyone over 30. You have to keep things in perspective. You have 2 clearly stiff balding middle age guys here complaining about the car not looking "hip enough". That, alone, is laughable. Plastic grille pretending to be folded metal, unpleasant shift lever, notably slow reaction times (for guys supremely experienced with high-end sports and super cars), and they are not excited to drive it . So don’t waste your time pining for one. What does the updated tech really do for you? I’m not in D’s league but with 2 high-end Jags, 2 Porsche sports cars and 2 high-end Lexus’, can’t say I’m interested after viewing this. Now prior model at $50k US (and you better be ready with maintenance $ ) at least I’m seeing an interior even better than Jaguar. BTW: American here, I like those colors. Bentley style oh so nicer to the eye than Rolls has been for a decade, but CarGuys say Rolls meets expectations. Range Rover instead was covered just a few years ago by major car magazine and yes the $100k Range beat cars 2-4x in overall impression. I don’t want a damn SUV yet qualified reviewers say YES. Thank you fellas...

The first thing that sprung to my mind was wing commander Guy Gibson spec , smoking a pipe . Plastic fittings on a car of that value is scandalous and way too much chrome switchgear for my taste ,the sun reflecting on various surfaces would drive me mad. Thank you so much for your honesty here. It's really appreciated. Some of the big car KZbinrs have stopped providing anything much of value because they never point out weaknesses in cars. They like to pretend that "social media influencer" is different to journalism, and somehow useful to people. My father owns the new specked out Bentley Bentayga, as for my mothers owns a beautiful and in prestige condition Ferrari 458. One funny thing about my life is that when I turned 18 my mother and father took me to the Aston Martin garage... I was looking at the new Aston Martin DB11 AMR and my dad paid for a test drive, so after I came out I saw my father in the official office of Aston Martin signing a paper. Does anyone else feel there's a safety problem with touch-screens? Manufacturers took a long time to apply ergonomics to dashboards, but, for the past many decades, a circular knob with a ridged surface obviously needs to be twisted, while a button must be pressed, and a switch has to be flipped. It wasn't necessarily so, 50 years ago, when many drivers became suddenly - and sometimes fatally - agricultural while trying to find the BBC Home Service on their Radiomobiles. With the enlightened designs pioneered by Rover, BMW, and others, then universally adopted, drivers could perform such actions by feel, without taking their eyes off the road, even in the dark. It's quite otherwise with a touch-screen, especially as, unlike 'analogue' dashboards, manufacturers don't have a standardised approach to design or layout. Additionally, those bright screens take the edge off one's night vision. I haven't seen this point made anywhere, so I'm throwing it out there for debate.

I agree, and it's covered to a small extent in this episode, but believe me I had a huge piece that remains on the cutting room floor on the potential dangers of the distraction of the touchscreen. The Bentley does have some of the controls as backup buttons below the touchscreen, which is a help, but the majority do remain on the screen.

The cheap plastics are inexcusable in a car of this prestige....they should have copied Mercedes' old design for the seat belt device that 'offers' it to the driver. They had them in their SEC coupes for years and they rarely failed and certainly didn't snap off! I was very distracted watching this video as the guy driving this ridiculously expensive car kept looking away from the road at his colleague!!! Yikes!

@TheCarGuys.TV I have accidentally stumbled upon your channel and I have to say its a happy find. I am sick of young, chavvy KZbinrs who don't have a clue about cars telling me how great the latest Sports/Super/Hyper car is. The honesty you guys bring is so refreshing and the fact you have knowledge about the history of brands and legendary cars from their back catalogue is a real boon. Whilst I am not in the market for the Bentley, if all the magazines and KZbinrs were to be believed, this is the highest quality motorcar ever, so your honesty would make me think twice about buying one, and makes me grateful someone is providing some realism to the online car review world. I have to agree with previous commenters though that this spec is rather lovely and I am in my 30's. I have to say though, for how much grief you gave the Bentley over some of its material choices and build quality, you aren't consistent with other reviews. All Ferrari interiors are shocking in their material choice and quality, especially the HVAC buttons. I watched the SF90 video last night and Damien you were cooing all over the interior but the HVAC controls looked worse than what you would find in a Dacia Sandero. Keep up the great videos, and keep being honest. PS if you fancy lending me a car for the day, I wouldn't say no :)

The difference with us is that we’re not trying to curry favour with car brands to get free trips and loan cars, so we can say what we want. Agree on some Ferrari buttons, but because they are sportier cars I don’t mark them down as hard than I do for luxury cars.

I visited my local Bentley dealer a few weeks ago and came away with a similar conclusion - without driving - I found the car disappointing in places as you did. Such a shame as where the craftsmanship is on display it's beautiful but .... On depreciation the salesman told me that you're looking at 50% in 3 years - on a £200k car - ouch.... They had several pre owned for sale as well. Think the W12 is going to disappear soon though due to emissions

I beg to differ , l had this exact car for 4 day when my Bentley was in Bentley Hampshire.This was an awesome car , the only let down was the cup holders , which is standard in Bentley .They kept going about the mahogany dash , surely you guys know that’s just an option that suits the buyer , not all cars have same cockpit or interior , so again miss-sold.. Stuff and nonsense! I really don't understand what these good fellows are drivelling on about, I mean personally, one would never drive a Bentley that wasn't in this spec what? I certainly always wear tweed driving breeks and normally have at least 2 matched pairs of Purdey's in the boot, along with plenty of the jolly old champers on ice what? Great with some criticism of the detailing that seems to have escaped other testers. Did you get the weight right, specifying it as 2715 kg, as that's the gross weight, rather than the kerb weight which is 2244kg. What driving settings did you use, Bentley mode all along?

It seems all the other ‘reviewers’ were intent on saying everything was great on the Bentley, Gadgety, probably to stay in Bentley’s good books so they get more free cars in the future. We’re not bothered about that - we’d prefer to give you the truth. Yes we used the wrong weight from the spec sheet - it’s more 2.2 tonnes than 2.7.

Agree with you. A very traditional color combination but a great shape. Test the lighter V8 in more vibrant colors. Why not drive the Bentley and Range Rover in a comparison test?

I came to this review from the Noble review...same sort of price, same sort of power but not a mention of comedy cheap looking switchgear or horrendous looking interior on the Noble...just an informative balanced review...nothing like this one.

The Noble didn’t have a horrible interior, it was entirely in keeping with the product and the brand. Cheap plastics for an Uber-luxury brand, I would argue, is not.

What an odd thing to say. People tend to find reviewers they trust and then listen to those opinions and then make their own mind up. Why would anyone deliberately try and find a positive review as opposed to an unbiased one? If you want nothing but positive reviews, you’re in the wrong place.

I would have gone with the all green interior as I generally think beige, gray, and black interiors have become boring. The seats and footwells are just a tiny bit narrow for my body size (5’11”, 190 lbs, athletic build). I would be considerably more comfortable if the seats were about 1/2” wider and the footwells about 1” wider. On the other hand, I think the Mulsanne’s seats and driving position are the best in automotive history. The Mulsanne is true ergonomic perfection! All that said, I’m very much looking forward to seeing the next Flying Spur. I’m guessing many of the CGT’s design elements are going to be found in the Flying Spur.

A few thoughts from an American viewer: (1) Luxury car dealerships here resemble upscale temples of excess. The Bentley dealer you showed looked like a Jeep dealership in Iowa. (2) I suspect you two are quite short and yet the headroom was barely adequate. Anyone taller than 5’5” would be unable to sit comfortably. (3) I gave up on this video after the second commercial interruption.

The next-generation Bentley Continental is scheduled for 2018/19, and it will include a plug-in hybrid variant. Bentley will borrow the plug-in hybrid powertrain from the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. Components for Bentley Continental will be sourced from Volkswagen's plants in Germany and Slovakia, with stampings from Volkswagen's factory in Bratislava. Porsche's plant in Leipzig will be responsible for assembling bodies-in-white, along Porsche's Panamera. Bentley's factory in Crewe will carry out final assembly. The Bentley Continental is,in essence a very expensive VW parts bin special.

Not sure why Bentley are scrimping on fixtures and fittings it doesn’t seem appropriate to be using cheap plastics on this type of car. Looks fantastic but the VW accountants should not be allowed to dilute Bentley build quality. I’m surprised the car hasn’t been better developed ergonomics are slightly off. Mechanically the car should be better resolved,poor brakes and a laggy turbo have no place in a 2019 Bentley I’m sure Porsche don’t suffer similar issues. Great honest review nice to see a Breitling HSO great attention to detail.

Bentley have done an excellent job of hiding the underlying tech in switch gear and engine/ transmission from Audi/Porsche VAG group of cars.... As for Range Rover...well would it ever make a journey without breaking down.... I like Range Rover design, but build quality is shocking...

You say the colour is not 'British Racing Green'! Which 'British Racing Green' do you mean - there were three (3) shades of the 'official' colour. Some of the interior quality was shockingly low. I am seriously considering something in this price range but there are so many other cars out there that use way better quality components.

I agree the spec of color inside and out is horrible. Get rid of this dated diamond stitch interior. Plastic for knobs...what’s a matter you can’t even put quality controls in this car and you ask how much? The issue of the infotainment needs to be addressed if you got to look around the steering wheel. That’s a problem. I had a Bentley salesman tell me these cars were junk and he’s right. You do not get anything of quality with this over priced car.

Agreed. Very fussy about paying top dollar for a car and then have to put up with flimsy fuel caps and horror of horrors, that plastic grille and side vets. No no no. How on earth do the pass a car like this for production at that cost with such cheap materials??

A GT Coupé has two doors and seats two people, a four door GT seats four people. The back row in a coupé is for luggage only. Plastic item inside is no go, but make sens outside when the grill is it dented. Metal is nice, but very expensive to replace. The Bentley is a upper class VW in a great costume. The color scheme is up to the buyer...

You get much more out of a S Class coupe including a lot of change. I never thought I would ever say this but oh dear Bentley.....

In Australia with taxes an Orange Continental in similar spec is £311,000. A lot for an adequate car. A wraith is £456.000 so worth the extra.

The thing I dont like about the new Gt is that I find it has too much roadnoice from the huge wheels, and I feel that the double clutch gearbox is not the right for this kind of car.

Think you summarised up at the end well. It’s a good GT car but you need the convertible for it to be great .. not really sure why you’d buy the coupe. Confession ... bought a late gen 2 GTC Speed and for very long weekends/weeks away and it’s perfect with lots (relatively) of room for your shopping from that quick detour into London. If you want to drive around with your pants on fire you get the GT3 or 458 out .. if you want a GT but aren’t away for as long and on tighter roads .. take the turbo S Cab and if it’s lashing down and you’ve got the kids .. take the Cayenne or Rangie .. point being it does the GT thing superbly (in convertible form) but you’d use something else for other occasions 😁.
