As a guy that has always wanted to buy a bike but never ended up doing it because I never felt confident enough, this is perfect! This would be ideal for anyone else that would love to be on the open road and without having to worry about messing with gears.
@Skiamakhos
@Skiamakhos Жыл бұрын
If you can drive a stick-shift car you can master the clutch, throttle and gear selector on a bike easily enough. Any decent instructor will have you working your way up & down the gears within an hour or two. It really is easy & worth learning - even if you then go on to ride DCT bikes or CVT scooters. I've just upgraded from a manual CB500 to an Africa Twin 1100 DCT, so much the same as this but a much taller "Adventure" type layout. I'm pretty impressed with it, love the twist & go simplicity of it, though I'm a little daunted by the complexity of all the settings you can get into via its touchscreen.

It becomes like second nature pretty quick, I randomly started riding 8 years ago and now I ride every day except wintertime. You only live once, you dont want to be 80 saying you wonder what a motorcycle is like if that's something you are very interested in. Be smart and learn to ride safely and you will have so much fun! Take a local motorcycle safety course, that helps alot.

Changing gears on a bike is one of those things that I cannot get my head around. It just seems strange doing the exact opposite of a manual car. I’m sure it’s easy enough to learn once you start doing it for real, but sitting hear imagining changing gears seems like something I would mess up easily. However I learnt an 18 speed Eaton fuller shift pattern pretty easily so maybe bike gears wouldn’t be as hard as I think it would.

Ive been riding for over 40 years. Ive had many many bikes. But I’m not hung up being a snobby purist with manual shifting. I just bought the 2023 bike and I can say it is so refined and smooth and with customization of power, traction control, engine braking, and shift points, that this is the best bike I’ve ever had. Silky smooth. So refined. Just the right amount of tech. Shifts exactly when you want. Plenty of power. Handles surprisingly good. Brakes not fantastic, but this bike is brilliant. So simple in operation. Puts all other cruisers to shame at any price. Cant be happier. I put a cover over my Ducati Diavel. This bike more fun. This bike is the future.

I ride a 2021 dct Nc750x always in manual mode. This is the best quickshifter money can buy using the paddles. The gear changes up are seamless and super smooth on the down shift if you roll off the throttle first I hate riding in any of the auto modes and this allows me to be 100% in control and always be in the right gear without have to use a clutch. I have ridden this bike with dct - even if you have no intention of ever buying one -TRY ONE !!! - this is great fun and you will get off with a big grin on your face. 1100cc - goes really well and the lean angle for a cruiser is surprisingly good. For the American market where learning to ride and getting your motorbike license is much easier than in Europe this bike will sell like hot cakes I would imagine

Had mine since Sept 23. Its a brilliant bike. Done a couple of tours, one to Scotland, Wales, Cotswolds, to name but two. Next year I will be going into Europe on it. Went to try and Idian scout, the guy at the dealers said sorry, we have had to take parts off it, to keep a customers bike on the road, can you come back again in week or so, we should have it sorted then. Not a good sales pitch that isn't bearing in mind, I regularly tour to Europe, don't fancy being by the side of the road, needing a part and the only parts are in the USA. I digress, the DCT is excellent, especially now I am in my mid 60's and joints don't function the same as they did in my 30's. It works for me, and thats what matters, I love it.

I would get one, I think they are quite cool. Just a correction though, they are not like an automatic gearbox, they do not have a torque converter or clutch packs, they are closer to a standard manual gearbox with a fairly standard multi plate clutch and gears which are controlled by a series of solenoids and a computer. Theoretically they should last longer than a standard clutch/gearbox because there is minimal clutch slippage and the gearshifts are consistently just right. The biggest issue for cars with DCT is owners not understanding how to use them correctly.

I own a 2015 VW Passat TDI SEL with the DSG transmission. Operation is simple, but the operator needs to pay attention to the learning curve, and learn the gearbox patterns, and adapt, because the gearbox shifting isn't going to learn you and your idiotocratic driving patterns and habits. Done right, it's superb, done ignorant, it's not the most pleasant and can clunk or leave you in a lurch. It will shift from 1st to 2nd even if barely rolling, trying to make a left hand turn in front of on coming traffic. Solution is to put it in Manual shift mode before you start your left hand turn then back into Drive mode when ready for 2nd gear shift.

Automatic (DCT) is criticised by many in cars but provides faster acceleration than a manual. In a bike there are several other advantages, particularly in stop-go traffic, lights go red, just unwind the throttle and stop, with the brakes on if necessary. Outside urban areas, with the transmission taking care of itself, you can concentrate more on the other aspects of riding. Having recently sat on one the static balance is great, it does not feel like it weighs 233 kg and is easy to paddle around without it wanting to fall over constantly. I'm determined to get a DCT bike ASAP.

Think about a sleeve that fits over the left grip with a knob that is just under the park lever. Good for only low speed maneuvers,not to use for normal riding speed. This would give more secure feeling should you ever have to take your right foot off the peg and then automatically use the drop(front brake) lever. It happens.

After about a hundred miles, your bum will start to get pretty sore. The saddle is easily the very worst part of this bike. However, an AirHawk seat pad will do wonders, and the optional luggage allows you to carry just enough kit to be fairly comfortable on a weekend trip.

Certainly bodes well for the NT1100. By all accounts it performs well, but I’d like to hear more about the character of the engine.

No one seems to be concerned or ever bring up the point about how long will the DCT last and how much will it be when its time to replace it? Even being a Honda will it be worth buying one 5-6-7 years or more later with the DCT? Time will tell.

People made the same complaints whenever a lot of performance cars started getting DCT transmissions and with all of the Internet complaining the sales reflect that hardly nobody wants to drive a manual if the CD is an option especially if you’re actually driving and have traffic and stuff to deal with manual is fun but it gets old especially when you’re riding a lot on your bike in stop and go traffic

Great video dude. I adore this bike and considered getting one last year, my one concern is the ergonomics for a taller rider. I'm 6' 2" and worry that this bike just wouldn't fit me. Do any taller riders have any experience on these?

I sat on a Rebel 500 yesterday and it was really nice for my height of 5 foot 8, I would love the 1100 DCT but as a learner I couldn't justify it, haven't found my first bike yet. 😞 I don't like the more sporty bikes, I much prefer the lower centre of gravity. Really like the thought of the Rebel 1100 DCT or the Forza 750 but all beyond my price range at this time until I pay off the car.

I have been looking at bikes lately, for a cool commuter but nothing sounds more user friendly than hondas DCT. It might just make a new rider out of me and many other like me looking for a cool way to commute to work without braking the bank on vehicle and fuel. I might just need to go check one out in person.

Someone made a comment about it making a trike. I have never ever ridden a bike and thought, "This thing needs an extra wheel." I have a DCT NC700 and a manual box BMW R1200RT. . The DCT is great and gets better the more you ride it. What a shock!!!! Just like anything you get better at it. The thing is that for me bikes have 2 wheels and that defines them. Not a gearbox. If it has 2 wheels and a motor I will ride it. I ride my wife's scooter to the shop for milk and don't come home for an hour 'cause it's a blast. If someone thinks I am gay for riding a scooter it's sad for them.

I rode Harleys exclusively for years, had to give it up due to very bad arthritis in both my hands, it got really bad and it was getting dangerous for me to ride so I gave it up in my late 50s, I miss it every day and the DCT might be the solution to a problem a lot of older riders have, I wouldn't be embarrassed to ride one= any ride on a bike is better than sitting in a cage.

I'd welcome much more in the automatic motorcycle space. I have autoimmune arthritis and it impacts my ankle, so gear changing with my left foot can be very problematic. At the moment I ride scooters as a result, but I'd love to be able to get on a cruiser bike in future.

I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to own a DCT motorcycle. I would still argue however that you'd be much better served riding on the Rebel 500/300. The reason I would argue that is that at least here in the United States it is much cheaper then owning the 1100 DCT. The 1100 DCT definitely has more power for sure, but even if does, you will struggle with any other bike. It's like getting on a kids bike and never taking the training wheels off. Now if you have a bike like the 300 or something that has a clutch I think its fine. I know that it would definitely be nice to be able to just relax and not worry about shifting gears during the ride. Most people that are aiming to buy cruisers aren't looking for the fastest ride anyway. What does it matter if you don't shift gears in the most efficient way ? That said, if you're spending 10k on a bike, the likely hood is that you're already a seasoned rider. Most people would not start on a 10k bike I hope.....

When this first came out, I was really keen to test ride it, however when seeing it in the flesh, I didn't like it at all. The exhaust was always butt ugly for me but can be changed, it was the small tank perched on top of the frame that I didn't like, all in all despite the good spec it's not a looker

I had a real looker, fast beautiful sleek. But in the end very expensive on everything that she needed, and she always needed a lot. So I divorced her. The one I have now is safe, dependable, and will always be there when I need her, today we have been together 20 years. Looks are never a reason to count something out, it's judging a book by it's cover.

Bikers are a great platform for feedback Bob and you gave a great review of a subjective motorcycle. Bikers in what we know of The West are like humans in what I know of the modern corporate environment, I have to chose my faith, my sexual orientation and what eating category I belong too. Being a white middle aged male who is ‘straight’ and who served the British Crown for 26 years, I no longer meet a category. I am so happy with that, and the many comments on your vlog. I have a V9 bobber and an Africa Twin 1100 dct and love them both for different reasons. Life is short, there are challenges along the way, but chucking my 57 year old 30” leg over any motorcycle makes me 17 again. Keep it up mate.
