I watched this after your Alfa Montreal video. It's hard not to be disappointed with the wooshy four-cylinder-like sound of the Ferrari compared to the Alfa's dirty old V8.

Same alfa v8 also had a flat plane variant in the 33 stradale and it sounds amazing. Nothing wrong with flat plane crank 4 or 8 cylinders. Portofinos sound problems are due to the turbos. Regular california sounds so good

@@Ac3sdg its not due to PPF. Listen to the 488 which doesnt have it and it sounds nearly same as this which is trash. Its due to the IHI turbos with internal wastegates. F40 on the otherhand with external wastegate IHI turbos still sound amazing

I love this car, it’s possible my favourite current Ferrari. Which is impressive considering it’s the ‘entry level’ (lol) model. I like the Roma but it sounds like it’s quite hypersensitive which seems at odds with it’s more ‘GT’ inspired background. I also prefer the interior on this car over the Roma. Standard controls instead of that new silly touch stuff.

I understand this but......I had a Dino and everyone in the UK shouts names and not nice ones as you drive past....took it to Italy where a very different reception was held. Actual cheering and clapping. I recall one time gently driving past a clapped out Alfa with the 'Polis' all hanging out the window shouting 'Passa, Passa' so I dropped into third nailed it and they all waved and cheered. I would not like to try this in Swindon.

For an "entry level" Ferrari, I'd rather have the Portion than a Roma which doesn't seem to have the iconic egg crate Ferrari grill. I think the retractable hardtop is also a plus.

If the toe angle gives it a slight tendency to wander - but you otherwise like the car and don't want to change brands and possibly take a big hit of depreciation - why not just have your favourite mechanic set the toe angle half a degree further in at the front?

Yeah, and who knows if the angles have been knocked off original alignment anyway... EDIT: I'll add that I've usually bought my cars slightly used and alignment is so important that I've had that checked, and while doing that I've asked them to set in in the most aggressive setting the of the manufacturer's settings range. Because the manufacturers don't specify certain wheel angles but instead a range it must be in, so there's leeway to choose from. Just look at the values German professional track testers Sport Auto has found when they've measured the test cars manufacturers have given for their track tests: almost always actually way beyond factory settings! The manufacturers know they can strongly affect the car's handling and performance by adjusting the wheel alignment, camber angles etc. I think I'll try to remember to haggle the car's purchase price to always include an alignment adjustment!

Ah my old road to school. Boy I loved driving that solo in my mum’s 1.3 Astra once I’d passed my test. For all the fast’ish cars I’ve had since I don’t think anything’s ever matched the sound and feeling of four mismatched cheapo tyres struggling or grip!

This is probably too late, but the Cali T adds some intangibles you'll like like style and fun. But specifically when coming from a Porsche, you'll likely want the Handling Speciale edition of the Cali T. It adds a lot more confidence, while letting you get more squirlly than the Porsche. I myself am going to get a Cali T HS as my upgrade of choice. I've driven a few of the mid engine variety Ferraris and they are fun, but not Sunday afternoon spirited drive fun. They are are either, IM DRIVING AS HARD AS I CAN, or im cruising awkwardly along Kensington. Cali T HS, great windy road confidence, more than enough power, and an open top to smell the fresh air go by. Pinnacle of driving IMO.

Really wish these “entry level”, “leisure and touring focused” Ferraris came with a manual. Remove the “specialness” of being in a Ferrari and I think something like a Boxster or even an MX-5 with God’s Proper Gearbox makes a more enjoyable Sunday morning country drive than flapping some paddles.

The logic of your left-hand versus right-hand dominance thing gets a bit wobbly with a bit more selective probing. Do you want your dominant hand doing the most important thing or the least? For me, precise steering is more important than fiddling with the infotainment and really, gear shifting is a series of repetitive patterns so can be delegated to muscle memory and ultimately is still less important than precise steering control. Just my 2 pennies worth on why the right side is the "right" side 😉

Had one recently as a courtesy car. Drives like a 911. Was very surprised how it got the power down every time. And the sound does grow on you, but didn’t feel like a true Ferrari to me, despite getting a lot of attention

Love your channel and never miss a video! All I'll say is that if the Portofino M(eh..) is in any way similar to drive as the older Cali T, (and going by how you describe the slight waywardness of the handling it does appear to be..) it'll probably feel like a BIG step backwards if you've just come out of the likes of a new or recent 911Cab. The Cali T was the biggest bag of doodoo I've ever purchased (sold it after just three weeks..). Torsional rigidity of a soggy shoe box.. and the styling definitely hasn't improved much at all, in fact I'd say the Cali T actually looks better.. all personal opinion of course.
