In today's video, @JayEmmOnCars reports on the results of the recent F12 Service. The first time this car has been looked at in his ownership, this was a nerve-wracking experience and though there were very few "BIG" issues, maintaining a 740BHP Italian supercar is never cheap - but how bad was it?

£930.73p for a loose screw? £120 for wiper blades? £93 for win washer cover? £200 for tightening a few coolant hoses? Oil filter £97? £5300 to fix brake ducts? You need another garage mate. Or a therapist...

I wouldn't have bothered with the brake ducts, as mentioned they only get too hot when you are hammering them constantly on a track day so they weren't an issue if you plan to use the car for road use.

Being a mechanic and knowing what’s involved I find it hilarious how these exotic car manufacturers can charge what they do. It’s like they want the customer to think this is some sort of Alien technology. £850 for 15 litres of fully synthetic oil, an oil and pollen filter and basically a visual health check 😂. I suppose if you can afford one in the first place this is nothing.
@andrewmurphy9293

Aston Martin once tried to charge me £100 for changing a cabin air filter. A job that requires literally 5 minutes with nothing more complex than a philips screwdriver and a part that is shared with Mazda that can be bought for £9. They also wanted £300 for a fix to the sat nav screen which takes 25 minutes with £18 of parts. I did both myself after watching videos on KZbin and never took it back to the main dealer again.
@jamesrobert4106

Do these main dealer service centres even qualify as mechanics in your opinion? It seems they are incapable of anything other than swapping old parts for new with the aid of a laptop and charging grossly beyond their skill set.

Even when you can afford it, there is no need to let someone take the complete piss out of you or just illustrate that for all your money… your clearly pretty stupid and that’s what I object to. So I stopped besides I actually value quality engineering and Ferrari are not that special in that category, nice engines, good looks and good sound , but the rest I can pass on.

Ferrari's clientele are people like Arab sheiks. If their Ferrari breaks down, they just throw it away and order another. I find it hilarious that people buy them second, third and fourth hand and expect them to be as well-built and as reliable as a Toyota.

This is a great example of why joining a club or online chat group is beneficial. There's nothing wrong with always using official service workshops, but so often one can be told of a chap in a shed with a special talent to fix stuff for a massive saving. Main places don't fix things as much because it is easier just to replace.

Especially with cars of today being as what I would call it “fast“ like you would get food or fashion… yes they might be exceptionally well made but the actual engineering of a car seems rather lost idk have a rather fondness to my old k11 micra or current Volvo 740 but you do get a different note of thump when closing the door compared to an current day VAG , product maybe more soulfulness in conversation of being over engineered and or capable of being fixed by the every man ? This has turned out to be an uni lit piece haha

Just goes to show the dreadful build quality of what is supposed to be a premium brand. Id expect to pay 5k on a classic Fez but not a modern one. Corrosion this early on is inexcusable.
@squeakers27
@squeakers27 Жыл бұрын
I agree it's not great and the car should have better paint on it. The corrosion on the bottom of the door is the result of a large stone chip, chipping the paint off and then nobody has treated it allowing salty water to the metal. The front bumper just is absolutely shocking, why is base colour then black on top? Surely it should be the other way around so you aren't left with nasty red chip marks.

Wiper blades are Denso (OEM supplier to Ferrari) can be bought on line for a lot less than £120. I get my FF serviced at a main dealer for the stamps in the book, plus it's very close in price to a specialist for a standard service. Anything outside that no longer under warranty it goes to a specialist, generally KHPC in Maidstone. Seriously, stop taking your car to a main dealer for "stuff" it's daft. As clearly demostrated by the "Robin" solution for the brake ducts.

@peterbest5938

Let me say when I had new wipers blades on my Maserati GranTurismo in 2016 from the main dealer Maranello (Egham) they wanted almost £250 - I kicked off and they quickly reduced it to £150 but still. Same with the price they were charging me for an oil change - I could actually go to the service desk at Maranello and buy the amount of oil needed over the counter for almost 50% cheaper that the workshop was asking - unbelievable! The moral from Maranello is that the majority of ‘owners’ never check or ask about costs they just pay whatever bill is out in front of them. 🙄

Welcome to the Ferrari dimension. In the states it’s about $100 per blade for the oem ones at the dealer. Sometimes you can find them from a parts supplier for about $60 each. You can use aftermarket blades but risk hitting the bonnet. I tried an aftermarket set that was recommended and removed them and went back to oem as they didn’t sit as low profile as the oem ones.

What surprised me most was corrosion on the door, I thought those days were gone. If it was a 1970's Ferrari I would get it but a car of this age it is shocking. The one part I can relate to that I think is reasonable, is the high labour cost to fix the screw under the dash, people forget it can sometimes take hours to remove everything just to get to a small part, then of course there is the putting it back together. What I find hard to understand is why it was not put together properly in the first place. Bottom line is, these cars are a labour of pocket and for men who like spending money on their cars. The nearest I am prepared to get to a Ferrari is when I used the name as a term to describe a certain lady I used to date many years ago. Gorgeous to look at, but temperamental and expensive to run.

some of these prices do seem very steep but to be honest if that's "all it takes" to drive a F12 for a whole year and additionally you just have to put fuel in it and that's it, it isn't too bad..

The one loose screw, and 900+ pounds labour to figure it out, you would think the first thing that you do in a rattling glovebox is check the screws.

It wasn't £900 to "figure it out" it was £900 to get to it - you need to disassemble half the dash

On the dash, wouldn't it be easier to remove the windshield to fix the dash?

Could you imagine the cost and risk of such an operation!
@chesspiece81

@Squeakers Removing the windshield? As long as the windshield is removed without breaking it, I would imagine it would be so much easier, faster, and ultimately cheaper than disassembling a ton of the dash. It might be a different way to go about the repair.

That system of memory for only 10 Times is exactly the same in Fiat,alfas,etc. Its pretty easy to restore with multiecuscan. I suspect Ferrari uses the exact same software as Fiat, so i cant seem to understand why it is so expensive. Its literaly a push of a button in the software.

I watched a video once about an Aston Martin owner breaking down his cost of ownership. But he broke it down to the per mile cost. It was over $8 per mile. That should be a law in every country when selling a car what the average per mile cost is. Just my two cents.

I’ve Owned 2 Ferraris f430 and California T it’s part of owning a Ferrari. Thinks of it like as an expense for your “hobby” I was quoted $26k from Ferrari NA for an exhaust manifold and fuel pump 😅. A local shop did it for $7k

We took our car to a Ferrari dea;er in Cohasset Mass who we consider at least 50 percent cheaper for the same work that you had done. Expensive but a hell of a lot cheaper than what you paid.
