True. I think because this is a sister car to the Peugeot 308 then the VW Golf ( rightly or wrongly ) has been targeted. Peugeot see themselves as more of an upmarket brand than they used to be. Plus there is a big push on the Astra as being a Germanic rival to the Golf through Opel

I think this is a great looking car - best Astra yet infact. Some parts are excellent, some show where costs had to be kept under control, but overall, this is a fine looking vehicle. It's a shame most reviewers seem to always associate today's VX with VX of old and treat them too negatively - they are quite different animals these days, and their cars generally offer good quality, kit and performance without breaking the bank. That's why they sell so many - their cars are for the every day driver who can't afford (or maybe doesn't want) to spend silly money on anything else.

I think all PHEV’s only really make sense if you do have a home charging option. If you don’t have a full charge at the start of everyday, its just like driving round with a boot full of cement, any fuel efficiency gained from the EV mode would be destroyed by the weight of the batteries

A large percentage of people in the market for a new car (homeowners) have the option to home charge that's a big pool of people. The last Vauxhall that wasn't a rebadged other brand was the Viva, which went out of production in 1979. Since then, all Opels and Vauxhalls have been the same design, using General Motors parts. Since GM sold its European operation to PSA, Vauxhalls (and Opels) now share Peugeot group parts. It's true that both Vauxhall and Opel Astras were made in Britain until this model, which is made in Germany. The British factory will now make electric vans for Vauxhall, Opel, Peugeot and Citroen.

After doing some research, it turns out these FOB keys sometime go out of sync and you have to resync them. I had to place the key face up in the cup holder console then press the lock button on the dash, then I had to press the unlock key on the remote. This synchronized the remote.

I have just bought a Peugeot with practically the same drive train as this car. There is a Tesco within walking distance with free (yes, free) chargers. I can park the car, go back home and come back 3 hours later that evening, and I AM NOT PAYING ANYTHING FOR FUEL. Now that does make sense. I visited my son and daughter-in-law last weekend in London. There was an on-street charger at the end of their road. I charged the car, while I was parked down the road from their house. So you charge when there is an opportunity, but there is no range anxiety when you can't. Great!

@@paulmasterson552 Why should I be ashamed? It takes over 3 hours to charge the car. It doesn’t take me 3 hours to do my shopping. I’m simply using the closest charger to my flat. It happens to be free. Tesco get plenty of business from me. They offer loyalty cards, special offers. That’s marketing. Free car electricity is just another way of marketing. I don’t know how long they will continue to supply electricity free of charge. It’s a promotional offer like their ClubCard.
