would love one last NA engine in the none gt 911s but wouldn't be opposed to hybrid in the future, like the 296 which drives and sounds great offering instant torque and acceleration along with engine soundtrack and gear shifts... going full EV tho seems so ill thought out as the carbon footprint of manufacturing an EV (not too mention the blood batteries) is as great as an internal combustion car thats been driven 500k miles. Also, even with advancements to the batteries and power system over the next 10 years, not sure the grid can even handle a full move to EV when places like LA are having constant brown outs with only roughly 5% of the car population plugged in.

Provisions for Efuels have now been included in the 2035 legislation. Do your due diligence bc this means a hybrid regular Carrera wont ever be necessary again. It is likely to cause the revival of non turbocharged 991's with 4L engines. If you look at the upcoming Cayenne, it no longer feautures a V6 without Hyrbid. Its now V8 or nothing.
@kburke1965 Жыл бұрын
E fuel sounds like it’s reached a stalemate with Germany and Italy wanting it allowed but the rest of the EU concerned it will enable ICE cars to continue to be sold and therefore run on fossil fuels. Most other Supercars are mild hybrid now it makes sense that Porsche would go the same way for the dishwater models - they’re are already turbo and PDK so aimed at hairdressers and dentists rather than actual enthusiasts. Hybrid in the ordinary cars might get the CAFE down a bit and keep the real drivers’ cars alive for another generation.
@choyayahyah Жыл бұрын
I think it's a game for allowing ICE cars again. They can't come out right and say forget the banning of ICE engines but this will be a slow method for that.

The E fuel provision doesn't affect their drivetrain and hybridization strategy. When the provision will be in effect over 80% of Porsches range will be BEV anyway. Most of the 992.2 Carrera/Turbo range will be hybridized and there won't be a revival of naturally aspirated engines in normal Carreras.

Power the 912 with the Cayman S engine and keep everything light and affordable. Plaid seat inserts. No sunroof. No PDK, SportChrono or PASM. Manual transmission only. Slightly smaller tires, no ceramic breaks etc, just a basic car with excellent driving dynamics. Not an ultimate track car, just a fun car that slots in below the base 911. For maybe $92,550? 5:06 A full hybrid (non plug-in) system with the 4.0L flat-6 from the 718 would still have more low end power and torque than the current mainline (no Turbo, no Turbo S, etc..) 992.1 911 models. The electric motor would generate say about 150hp and 200lb*ft of torque ON TOP of what the 4.0L flat-6 already produces. Also the overall gas mileage would be significantly improved with the full hybrid system. The 911 Turbo models could remain turbo-charged (it would be sacrilege not to) and have the hybrid system on top of that. Total power could easily be around 700hp.

It is good that Porsche are working on e-fuels and hybridisatiion. Noise can be dealt with electronically for those owners who want California tuner noise levels. The real elephant in the room is weight. All modern Porsches (and Lotus, Ferrari etc) are 40% too heavy. In addition, worldwide car emissions have increased thanks to SUVs: production of these need to be halted immediately.

@Andrew-vx2ls Жыл бұрын
@@csPinKie CO2
@csPinKie Жыл бұрын
@@Andrew-vx2ls CO2 is directly correlated to fuel usage, and looking at the trends of fleet emissions, you are clearly incorrect. also, when talking about emissions that actually matter (Nox, N0, Co etc), trends show that those are basically nonexistent when the CAT is warmed up. The main reason the 911 will prolly get a hybrid system is an electrical preheating of the cat with reduces cold start emissions from the cat to meet regulatory emission limits (again not talking about CO2 here)
@Andrew-vx2ls Жыл бұрын
@@csPinKie Everyone knows that emissions are a function of usage (more use or less efficient use, ceteris paribus). If you check out the EU Parliament figures, from 2005 to 2010 emissions dropped. Since 2012 they have gone back to 2005 levels. This is a tendancy worldwide as too many folks have bought SUVs. Just a reminder: they weigh more and their CdA is considerably greater so they use considerably more fuel (be it electric or fossil). CO2 can be directly correlated to use, but the other emissions are more variable (length of journey etc). The main use of hybrid is for town use where they function surprisingly well. Preheating the cat is I suppose a possible route. Personally I am more interested in Porsche developing better e-fuels.

Mid cycle refresh is historically when engine generation changes. These engines will carry over to 994.1 which means they can’t wait another decade to go hybrid across the range. Thus these cars will all have some form of electric power. I think it’s most likely the ICE will be downsized to 2.7 or 2.5 and combined with mild hybrid electric motor in the gearbox to give slightly improved performance and much better economy in the base Carrera and S.
