It does look like an Africa Twin from the front. So if you want one, but you don't want to spend 20k+ get Africa Twin.

I like it, more cool bikes are always better than less! As for the AT comparison, even the elephant back in the day looked like the AT. I still have a 2018 ATAS model with the old 1988 paint and gold rims and it’s just my 2 cents worth of nothing,I don’t think they built a better looking bike in the last 10 years than it.🤷🏻‍♂️ I know, I know……throw me out.😂

@Pcfly I won't argue with you because I really like the looks of Africa Twin, but personally, I think Diavel 1200 or 1260 are one of the best-looking bikes. One of the reasons I ride one.

I love MV's , not really a fan of this genre of bikes, but I'm sure it will appeal to a lot of people. Right at the moment MV's dealer network in the states is in question, hopefully that gets sorted soon.

These bikes are all starting to look very similar. MV triples sound great but honestly, feels like making a movie choice at the video shop lately :) (back in the day)

First of all MV Agustas don't ride similar. With MV Agusta, especially with you mentioning the engines...definitely offers something others don't so you have NO IDEA what your'e talking about.

@@pistonburner6448 I should clarify, the ADV bikes are starting to look very similar. To your point, I know very well how they ride. I spent a lovely weekend around the Santa Monica mountains/Malibu with an MV Agusta Superveloce. So I would argue I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about.

@@TheDavidGoldmanphoto It's true: ADV bikes look very similar just like mountain bikes, road bikes, enduro motorcycles, motocross motorcycles, road racing motorcycles... Evolution brings everyone towards a certain design which works. But that doesn't mean they're the same, use the same materials, have the same level of quality, finishing, etc. And above all the engines, geometry, suspension, frame dynamics! I don't know what your claim about "I know very well how they ride" is supposed to mean as you surely haven't ridden all of these ADVs and certainly haven't ridden the LXP. You having ridden a Superveloce over a weekend doesn't make you even know that bike model: MV Agustas are so reactive and sharp that it takes a long time to get used to them. It took over a week, more like two weeks to just start getting used to the Brutale and begin to feel comfortable enough with it to start playing around and really feeling it. Then a lot longer to start understanding it. But yeah, the ADVs inevitably converge...until someone comes up with some new tech. I bet you MV Agusta soon comes out with some of their new tech for that category bringing a bit further new spice...in addition to their amazing triple engine.

Motobob: You said the tired old cliche "They are very revvy. They're a lot of fun but you do need to wind them up in order to get most out of them" which just isn't true. You clearly just spat out a cliche repeated in other contexts which doesn't apply. 1. MV Agusta triples are not "revvy", they pull very well down from the lower revs. Yes, they ALSO rev high but that doesn't mean they don't pull hard low down. They're a very nice middle-ground between twins and 4-cylinder engines, with NO real deficiencies in low revs at all. 2. MV Agusta triples have so much grunt down low that you definitely don't feel you're missing anything at any revs. 3. You specifically said "on the road", and you should know you can't use anywhere near the full revs and full power of MVs except in very rare cases for a few seconds at best. MV Agusta triples literally are still overpowered for street use...you have to hold yourself back all the time, even when using lower revs. And when you twist the throttle the response is lightning-quick and the rear tire is at the very edge of grip from mid-revs so I have no idea why you felt you needed to add in that false 'journalist jargon' which doesn't apply.

Cool looking bike. Converting the price into Canadian $ it's $44,132.35! Let's face it, ADV's are an image for most riders in concept. The majority of the riders I've spoken to with a BMW GS or a V-Strom, etc don't really have any off-road experience or very little so "adventure" is riding on the road. But isn't that what motorcycle are for anyway? An adventure...period. That being said, they look cool, handle really well, and have luggage so they are very useful and my preference is that genre. I'm definitely not going to go off-roading on that thing! Too pretty, too expensive, too heavy. Rather be riding a KTM 500 EXC-F so you could actually do some proper off-roading. The KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY would be a really good choice for a multi-terrain trip.

You dont have to be powering solo thru Peruvian mud living off beetles and rain water whilst distilling bark and fermented fruit to make fuel to qualify for ADV riding. Havent been somewhere before? Some dirt involved? Maybe a night camping on the way? Thats enough. Adventure doesnt mean remote unsupported wilderness. It just means somewhere you havent been, on a bike that can get you there and back, no matter the conditions in between.

@@bensmith7536 Ya, in my 53 years of riding I have and that's kind of what I said in my post. Spending $50k on a ADV that I'm going to trash on a off-road/ trails while going camping. Well done on the distilling bark and fermented fruit to make fuel! You got me on that one! Cheers D

@@VelkePivo Kind of, although I'm not disparaging anyone. ADV's are awesome bikes! And I really like MV here. I rode my Multistrada on some trails. Nothing crazy, it rode fine, but it still sucked. Bloody heavy, and not something you want to drop/ crash. Same with a GS 1250 I rode off-road on some more aggressive terrain. There are some guys that can FLY on a big bike, like Toni Bou or Chris Birch. Most ride slower though. All good if you're having fun.

Any and all Exhaust Valves are to comply with the ridiculous E4 / Euro 5 Emissions Testing... Lots of available Technical info to support that too. First thing I´d do is eliminate it and place a dongle. ;)

Wrong, exhaust valves also control back pressure, and that affects torque. The LXP uses the exhaust valve actively for optimal engine characteristics.

A roadster with the meaty (and even meatier now) Tiger 900 engine has sounded good to me but Triumph never went there. Maybe MV don't have a load of heavy twins to upset the marketing of such a bike.

Is it just me or are "adventure bikes" rapidly becoming the 4x4s of the motorcycling world? Does this mean, just like 4x4s, they will never go beyond gravel roads that could easily be traversed by regular vehicles & be owned by wankers who want to exude a sense of adventure without the imposition of actually getting them dirty? Time will tell...

Lol! Seems like Stefan Pierer won the argument & this limited edition release is just a face saver for MV. All the adventure bike manufacturers are now releasing road focussed sporty crossovers with 17” fronts & sport tourer rubber while MV released their superb Turismo Veloce in 2015! Bob you’ve forgotten that you tested it a few years ago and you mentioned that the 800 triple had been retuned similarly ie torque was up and it wasn’t your usual rev happy monster and very tractable. They also developed it in some interesting ways especially with the Rekluse style transmission but a lack of publicity & the usual dealership issues means it’s been a rather too well kept secret. Still puts the Tracer, Stelvio and the new GSX crossover etc to shame though. Journos needs to cotton on to the fact that these aren’t mid range machines. It’s about more than just engine capacity. In terms of spec quality & real life performance (power to weight etc) as well as price, these bikes are closer to the 1000cc - 1200cc competition. That said, this adventure style bike makes no sense - too late to the trend, too heavy & completely uncompetitive in a market crammed with some excellent and well established models from other mfrs. Pierer 100% right, as usual.😏

@@pistonburner6448 I've a huge soft spot for the Lucky Explorer personally and I'm already an MV owner but I just can't see many others choosing this over a 1300GS, a Multistrada, a 1290 Super Adventure on the one hand or an Africa Twin, a Desert X or even a Norden 901 at a much, much lower price point.

Not comparable. This is a special edition and they'll sell out in no time. Proles like you first of all don't even buy bikes in this category, and second of all the 'ordinary' version will be far more competitive in price and still above others in materials, finishing, design, quality, and almost certainly handling too.

Harley Davidson never should have sold MV Agusta. They should have used Italian designers to collaborate on prototypes for HD. HD would be a transformed company today with a variety of styles that appeal to new generations. Oh well, that CEO is long gone and sleeps well.

i mean it’s okay? how is it better than the competition? less reliable and slower than the 1300gs, worse off-road chops than the desertx or ktm. At that weight and price how is it any better than a 1200 rally pro? it’s priced just under a v4 rally. What is their competitive advantage?

Spoken like a true BMW guy.😂 You have no idea how reliable the 1300GS “is”! Having past BMW’s myself…….and having five plus friends with major final drive issues, coolant problems, electrical issues, recalls up the wazzoo…….the people that don’t ride to just Starbucks, truly beat them up off road, put 50k+ on their bikes……they know their local shop manager, how his kids are doing and where they vacationed last year as you open up your wallet. Always makes me laugh when the Royals talk.🤦🏻‍♂️

@@Pcfly i have a 2009 f800gs and 2015 r1200gsa. I don’t drive so I commute on them regularly and frequently take them off-road (the 800 harder than the boxer). I have photos to prove it. Only minor issues.
