If you've just upgraded to a new 3D printer and have found your prints are not as shiny as they were on your old printer, even when using the same filament, don't worry, your printer is working fine. This is normal and can be easily rectified!

Articulate, scripted, well thought out with excellent pacing and visuals throughout. Well done. I doubt many people know how much effort is put into your videos, great job.

Thank you so much. It is a lot of effort, and doubly so since my accident, but I enjoy doing it, and knowing it helps others just makes my day! Was slightly frustrated with this one as it was only when I got to the edit I found my fleace was creating some rather undesirable sound on my lav mic. Spend time working on fixing it as best I can, but I've now learned not to wear that when recording haha.

Good tips! People really neglect how much outer surface speed adjustments can improve perceived print quality. I still watched you on 2X. ;)

Interestingly, eSun and others have started releasing “super gloss” PLA filaments, haven’t tried any yet (I happen to prefer the matte appearance) but it’s amazing how the difference in print of a standard PLA vs a Matte PLA comes down more to opacity these days, as they often look the same on the same settings. Notably the Bambu brand filament differences between their PLA basic and PLA Matte, the non matte difference is very slight but more light transmissible - eg for hue forge you want their basic, as their matte is several times more opaque.

Another good video as always mate. I also found the ironing option/feature does a nice job of managing top layer quality issues that come with the higher speeds.

Thanks very much! Always appreciated! Yeah the ironing feature can be a great tool for top surfaces!

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to research since I’ve noticed some fancier pla filaments have been very cloudy and matte lately on my X1C. So great timing and thanks

As a fast talker who even went though speech therapy to help correct it, I feel your pain and love the suggestion. You have very clear speech though, I had “cluttering” where I’d muttle the ending of a word with the beginning of the next, not quite mumbling, the speech pathologists call it “cluttering” took a while to get past it, longer than stuttering and transposition of s and th I had as a child. Thank you for attending my Ted talk lol

Really appreciated. My fast talking is actually very un-characteristic of me. I suffered a brain injury and my speech is actually very slow and clunky, but when recording videos, I know what I'm about to say and so it comes out quickly to ensure I say it before I lose what I'm about to say. Working with my own speach and language therapist on it. Hope you're doing well!

Irony is that if you increase the hotend temp by 5 - 15c you'll find that you can print much faster while maintaining the quality and shiny finish. Fast prints come out matte because the filament wasn't adequately heated before it left the hotend. You can either print slower, use a toolhead with a longer hotend, increase the hotend surface area that's in contact with the filament like CHT or increase your hotend temp a little bit.
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 2 ай бұрын
You definitely can increase the temperature a tad to help with this. However, that can also then contribute to other problems such as stringing, oozing, and overhangs drooping so it's a bit of a matter of weighing up priorities. By improving gloss by slowing down you can for the most part maintain or even improve the quality of your print.The CHT nozzles are absolutely an option for helping without having to increase the actual temperature though and something I'll be covering more in a future video.

Nice video, but what is the time difference for a benchy with "high speed" settings compared to your solution? For X1C
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 2 ай бұрын
It depends what high-speed settings you mean. The 18 minute benchy that comes pre-sliced on the printers is more of a showboat and isn't a speed even Bambu ever intends their users to print at (as reflected by the fact that none of their stock presets in Bambu Studio achieve that print speed on a Benchy). However, if we take the Bency sliced using the Bambu unaltered '0.2mm Standard' preset for the X1C, it quotes 32 minutes 37s print time. If I take that and just apply the settings I mention in this video the estimated print time is 38 minutes 45s. So it's only adding 6 minutes to the print. If we scaled the Benchy up to 360% to see what the impact would be on a larger print, with the standard preset it estimates 6 hours and 12 minutes. With my alterations for improved surface finish it would be 8 hours and 8 minutes. So yes, it does make the print slightly longer, but comparitively not much. Ultimately it comes down to what is more important to you, speed of the print or the surface finish of the finished print. If you don't mind it being less glossy, don't change it, if you do want it more glossy, then slow it down.

temp and speed do affect the walls shinyness. im mostly headache the consistency shiny of the bottom layer. sometimes the textured is alot shinier then others.
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 2 ай бұрын
Try increasing the temperature of the first layer by 2-5 degrees and/or slow it down slightly to see if that helps with your shininess

What is the yellow filament?

I can't remeber 100% which one I used for this. It's definitely PLA, and it's most likely either Bambu PLA Basic, Prusament PLA, or Filamentive rPLA

You don't need to slow down at all to fix this, just fix your temperatures. Manufacturers' recommended temps are designed around selling to folks with old printers that can't safely go over 245 and are not adequate with more than extremely weak cooling and low flow. Temperatures for PLA should be 245-270 depending on whether you have a long melt zone. For PETG, 265-290.
@3DRevolution
@3DRevolution 2 ай бұрын
The problem is, increasing temperature can affect other sings such as oozing and stringing, and overhang quality even when printing at speed, so it's a matter of weighng up what's more important to you based on the performance you're experiencing with your filament and printer.

@UnCoolDad thanks both, I am absolutly trying to tighten up my delivery and hope to make it as accessible as I can for as many people as possible. I also ensure I upload a full Cc package for my videos too so they aren't reliant on voice to text captions which tend to get a little confused with more technical videos (with the exception of a handful of videos which I wanted to get out the door asap and mean to go back and update when I can). I'm always open to suggestions of how I and my channel can improve and I hope I can help you with my future videos. Thanks again

@@3DRevolution just takes practice and a bit of introspection to slowly find your style. Take a look at the popular KZbinr of your choice that has been doing this for 5 or more years and take a look at their very early videos. Often they are very wooden in their delivery, compared to today. They either took the time to find a style which suited them and their audience, or slowly but naturally fell into a more confident and relaxed groove. Also, bon't be scared to take your videos to several minutes longer to achieve what you want either.

@@UnCoolDad Yeah it takes time. I'm also dealing with a brain injury which affects my communication (scripting & many MANY takes helps my delivery to the point that you see), but it's a long and ongoing process. I've been running this channal for 7 years, though up until around a year ago I wasn't running it so actively so re-launched it and am trying to make a real go of it. But yeah, I'm working on finding a timing that works as a good equilibrium for me and my audience.
