Nice! Also on 2022 "smart extrude" works on edit poly modifier. My favourite feature, I will say its Presentation mode, having a full screen viewport without any menu to show to the clients while I work. But then the improvements on performance are as well what I use day to day, 3000 times faster smooth modifier, slice/symmetry 3X, extrude mod 100X faster....

@@snesoey Presentation mode works on floating viewport. With it, the viewport eliminate any border, or windows top bar, or viewport menus, or helpers. Its basically a totally clean viewport that you can have at full screen for example without any distraction.

finally they implemented the basic features of sketchup (which started more than 10 years ago)

3dsmax has been a drag to boot for quite sometime, since 2017 maybe it launches and after showing the viewport it hangs for almost as long as a full minute before letting me interact with the program.I install both v-ray and corona onto it along with some qol improvement plugins which should not introduce that much stalling.. I checked other computers, other builds and it s the same. Was you max 2020 lagging like that with plugins installed?

Finally!!!!! Almost late by 15 years But they did it. Sketchup did become famous precisely for this quick modeling method. I always wondered how a big company like Autodesk is so slow and dumb in its approach, at least they are trying to catch up!!

If you want to do mainly special effects and motion graphics, cinema 4d is way better than 3ds max. But if architecture is what you're looking for, them go 3ds max

I use c4d and corona render for archviz. The program interface is much more modern for me and easier compared to 3ds max. 3ds max is however more common. There are more ready-made models and plugins for archviz for 3ds max than for c4d. If you only plan to do archviz, there is not much difference between the two programs. However, if you are planning to develop towards animation or motion design, c4d is better option. C4d is also better for archicad users. You can easily migrate objects between archicade and cinema c4d. 3ds max is better for people using Revit.

My fav Max version is 2010, I am using custom config for a keyboard and mouse, which gives me a comfort and speed. I think the main problem of Autodesk marketing is that they are trying to sell new features instead of selling their previous products and versions. Just saying, that Blender 2.8+ is completely free

Good improvements, but still WAY less than what we should have gotten by now over the years. Especially for the exorbitant prices we have to pay to upgrade our licenses to the new version. This year Autodesk are jacking up our upgrade price by another 20% on top of the increase from the last few years. This is simply unacceptable!

I have a couple of theories as to why that might be. First, you have to take into account that the rate of piracy on 3ds Max is exorbitant. It's commonsensical to me that this fact is partially to blame for the overabundance of models and scripts for it. Want good updates? Prepare for DRM fuckery. Want quasi-open source software that has decades of development and a huge community behind its back? Well, deal with lack of development. Second, Max's architecture is probably so fucked right now, that in order to make vast substantial changes to it you'd have to all but sacrifice what resembles backward compatibility, but without those changes, you'd have to move in tiny increments as they do now.

If their prices were normal, far less people would risk using their pirated software. Not to mention, I have a sneaking suspicion that they are willingly letting their software get pirated because that's more hooked users that will eventually have to buy it at some point once they start their own legitimate business that relies on using their software.

3ds max 2022 has a big draw back. it dont work on perspective match. it doesn't align vanishing line for virtual staging. i hate max 2022 now.

Seems like 2022 also has improved performance/responsiveness. Because 2021 was literally unusable on low-medium complexity projects such as 1.6GB project file and 17M polys w/ 20+ CAD/Quad poly objects mix/materials , freezing/loading for 10-60sec after every click you make e.g. stop render -> wait 30sec for the render to stop and Max/Vray to unfreeze. Save project -> Saved in 10sec or so and then wait a minute for Max to become responsive not even talking about Slate Editor freezes and lag ( even with Global Rendering turned off ). All of these issues is drastically reduced in 2022 ( tested with same project & same plugins installed ). Can't really remember such issues like a year or two ago even on way more complex scenes, maybe Windows messed something up?

relax added the preserve volume that was not there before. Also its faster than before. The "smart extrude" is not new, but its well implemented on a generic 3dapp, maya doesnt do all the operation smart extrude does. Zbrush... its a sculpt app. If you need to point someone as "first" I guess will be sketchup, and even then... skecthup does a mess on your triangles, where max, keeps a rather clean mesh.
