Dude, get a Rototiller, it makes bench cutting so much easier. The initial cut with the tiller into the hillside then work sideways to cut your bench. Built nearly a mile on my 5 acres that way
@mtbingadventures15513 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit skeptical that a rototiller will work where I'm at. There are lots of rocks a good sized roots that my tool just plows right through. I will see if anyone on the team has one their willing to use for this.
@trailjockeytj61603 жыл бұрын
@@mtbingadventures1551 where it works it works. And where it doesn’t heal then go back to hand technique. But it does take a lot of Backbreak out of the highly dirt areas as well as preps the soil for a good marriage back together if you’re building partial bench. I was very lucky in the property I am building on, very few rocks almost none, and the roots weren’t too bad but I did have a Pulaski to take care of those when the tiller wouldn’t cut them. I have one and I’m not particularly using it this time of year. And would both love to see what you’re doing and help out if possible. Let me know and good luck on the 20 miles.

@@mtbingadventures1551 Also, I have a compactor which makes seasoning the trail a little faster. Although if it’s too dry it just pushes the dirt around and doesn’t really do anything for you.
@mtbingadventures15513 жыл бұрын
@@trailjockeytj6160 the plate compactors are awesome. I used one at the bike park a lot. I'm thinking about running one of those through the trail after we get a good rain. Timing it for great conditions could be tough here. It might just go right to snow when winter comes. Also can't be to wet or it just sticks to the plate.

@@mtbingadventures1551 FACEPALM!!! I will say a progressive jump line or one that has like three sizes built on it several places down the hill would be an awesome trail. I’m assuming with 90 acres the property isn’t long enough to get a long run in, however you could build some super fun skill building laps in. I’d do my best to extend the climb or do whatever it takes to make it super easy. If it’s crappy to you, it’s a hik-a-bike to most riders. I can’t wait to be able to come up and help you guys out.
@mtbingadventures15513 жыл бұрын
@@B1KER it's not to steep. Trying to make the climb trail very mellow. It's going to be used by everyone to access all the other trails. I got jump lines, confidence course, and all sorts of stuff that will happen. Right now it's rough cuts and lots of hiking to see what I have to work with.

I will be cutting trails year round if weather permits. We are going to be building about 20 miles of trail. I already have 1.5 miles cut in now using the Gaia GPS app. to get that info. We'll be getting more equipment to help get our 65 gallon water tank to places we need to wet down. We also have some smaller water tanks for the more difficult trail sections.

Btw I use CalTopo to plan trails, the Slope Angle Overlay is great for locating the best spots for uphill switchbacks or areas that will be easier to shelf etc. I already drew up some example trail plans in CalTopo but I don’t want to share your location that I dug up.
