I just bought this kit. I’ve had several others in the past. From what I’m seeing this one looks small. I’ll let y’all know Wednesday when mine gets here. The reason that I chose this kit was because… Alesis has great quality products. I’m used to them in the past and I’ve always been wonderful. I too like another person commenting here have a small room with limited space. I could have purchased a bigger kit but figured this would be good for me due to the limited space I have. In the past I have used things such as blocks to boost the kit up. You can if you wish, later on purchase bigger petals if you want. Honestly I’ve had both. I will comment more on the performance in the overall look as well as add pictures Once I have received my kit. Either way it goes I’m super excited because the sound quality is great

I can see this being useful for street performers, but the bass drum sound is very weak. It needs a seperate volume control. For what you get with this, it seems good value. It's definitely a step up from something akin the Yamaha DD10, which was about the same price in monetary value terms back then (and is still miles ahead of the rollout flat pad things available nowadays). I'm considering this for a friend to learn basics on so we can have some fun home jam sessions (I'm learning accoustic guitar)

I ve bought this set cause i dont have a lot of space in my room and thinking that I'll use it as a midi controller and something to practice. Im a beginner at age 35 and 1.78 tall. It is tiny but for my room it works. I use the foam from packaging to give it 10cm more height and it is just on my knee height when im sitting. The kick and hat switches are awful, you can't feel when it will engage and it retrigers when you not expecting it. The cymbals are needing a lot more force than the mesh heads to play loud, something that doesn't work well if you want to move to acoustic drums. All the mesh heads have the sensor to the bottom, that works fine but in the snare that means that it is on the right, so snare hit with the right hand sounds stronger than with the left even if you play them with the same strength. The kick has no velocity even if you put the jack on a mesh head from the toms or use a piezo as a trigger, so i think that even with an upgraded pedal this would be the case. If you have the space, go for a upper class model it doesn't worth it even for kids, the pedals are a pain in the ass. You can use a footswitch like the boss fs6 for example and it has a bit of a better feeling. I don't regret it because it is super cheap and it has a nice feeling and dynamics through the mesh heads, it has midi so i can write my one drums in a daw, it is small so it fits in my small bedroom. Im going to make a diy kick pad with a normal kick pedal and happy days. But considering the cost of that i think that if i had the space, the bigger alesis model would be a better choice.
@fizik5796 Жыл бұрын
I also have the same issue with the kick pedal. Can you tell me how you’re going to make a diy pedal? 😅
@fotispolychronopoulos6267 Жыл бұрын
@@fizik5796 I ll buy a kick pedal and for the kick pad i use a wrist pad for mouse that it has a space between its rubber base and the foam for the wrist to rest. Inside there behind the foam ive put a piezo with a female jack output. I will make a base out of wood to put that and a rubber mat under the whole construction so it doesn't move on the floor and minimise the transfer of vibration to the floor. I haven't yet made the base, but ive tried it with a borrowed pedal and it works fine, also that foam has a very natural rebound that i like, it doesn't work for double pedals cause it is a bit narrow but i don't use one so no problems there. It is the Hama mini wrist rest, that i already have, but i think any pad like this will work. I have aa friend to help me with the wood construction. The wrist pad costs around 6euro and the piezo 1.5 i think

I don't think it's generally a good idea buying these sorts of kits for anyone that actually wants to learn how to play. The issue is that the techniques you have to use to actually play on this kit are not at all close to what you do on a more premium electronic kit or an acoustic kit. The snare isn't in the correct place and the pedals are just plain bad and it makes transitioning between this and any other kits very, very hard. I used to own a DM Lite for practising the drums but when I actually took what I learned from the Alesis onto the acoustic kit and the Yamaha e-kit at my school, I basically had to relearn everything. Not only was my muscle memory wrong for the placement of the pads (which is to be expected on a kit I haven't set up) but I found actually using the kick drum and hi-hat pedal quite a challenge. I do think that this kit looks much better than the Alesis DM Lite but if you can fork out $100 more for the Nitro Mesh then I would say that would be better. You can set up the Nitro Mesh for children and its ergonomics are much closer to that of an acoustic kit.
@WaRn00b853 жыл бұрын
I agree with you here, learning to play on an acoustic kit is obviously the best choice in terms of "feel", especially if said drumming will be playing live on an acoustic kit at any point. The noiseless and ease of use aspect of the electronic kit though makes it a tool in its own category, but I feel it is important to learn to play acoustic as well as electronic. This kit is pretty impressive and honestly I think they were a bit modest with the age rage for this kit. 5 to 10 is a bit late. You can start them at 3 and move up to a better kit earlier, but this will definitely help with the concept of drumming and individual limb movement/control etc. My daughter is almost 1... time to start saving up for this. Hahahaha

This is my 1st kit and I can barely use the pedals.., (plus the bass 'double taps' a-lot which is annoying for someone trying to learn how to keep a beat).. Can I swap out the pedals? Do they all connect the same? (1/4in TRS?). Any recommendations on pedals..?? (I'm an adult 5'10'' 175lbs if that matters). Are those pedals that actually strike a small drum 'better' in any way for a beginner?, or what should a beginner use? Will a new pedal fix the 'double-tap' problem that I see a-lot of people have? Sorry for all the noob questions, this thing kinda just fell in my lap and I feel if I can get the bass figured out I can finally learn how to play it..?

I have a boss fs 6 footswitch that i was using on my midi keyboard as sustain, i use this and it is a bit better. It doesn't trigger twice etc cause you can feel the switch on your foot, something you can't with the debut's pedal. I need a adapter to check an other cheap sustain pedal i have for the hi hat. This doesn't give a natural kick pedal feel but it works a bit better.

All toms, snare and cymbals are velocity sensitive and are working well. The kick is like a switch and doesn't have dynamics, i tried the jack from the kick on one of the mesh toms and it works if you hit it hard but it doesn't have velocity sensitivity. So i imagine that the kick works with switch like pedal like the stock one or a footswitch (something i use currently) and also with normal kick pads and piezoelectric element ( something I've checked and im going to build a pad fir normal kick pedal). I don't know yet if in midi it will transmit different velocities, but but the main unit of the debut doesn't have velocity for the kick as it is
